INTRODUCTION :
CROCK is a softwares cracker and games cheater. Its database is
over 500 softwares and permits to patch them.
PRINCIPLE :
CROCK searches some bytes strings in files and patches them to
eliminate disgracious parts of softwares.
Crock's advantages:
- UNP usage for unpacking executables files.
- High security: patches are made only if all files are
present and if all strings are found.
- You can restore the original state of the software.
There is 3 kinds of patches :
- cracks,
- cheats,
- and others (suppression of cripples, ...).
INSTALLATION :
The Crock 2 package includes 4 files :
- CROCK2.EXE : the main program,
- CROCK2EN.DOC : this file,
- CROCK2FR.DOC : the same in french,
- UNP???.EXE : auto-extractible file which contains UNP.
Only CROCK2.EXE and UNP.EXE are necessary for execution. You must
extract UNP.EXE by running UNP???.EXE. CROCK2.EXE can be intalled
everywhere. The UNP.EXE's path must be either CROCK2.EXE one, or
appear in the PATH environment variable.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS :
The most importants keys are :
- <F10> : menu.
- cursor arrows : moving into lists.
- <TAB> : toggle objects (buttons, boxes, ...).
- <RETURN> : validate.
- <ALT>-T : toggle screen mode (25 or 43/50 lines). Only with
an EGA or a VGA card.
- <ALT>-S : statistics.
- <ESC> : cancel a choice.
- <F2> : open the cracks window.
- <F3> : open the cheats window.
- <F4> : open the miscellaneous window.
- <F5> : Zoom the current window.
Instead of moving the selection bar, you can type the foremost
characters for a direct access to the software name.
The mouse allows all actions. Only the left button is in use.
A star ("*") after a name means the patch hasn't been tested yet.
WARNING : DO NOT use Crock on your original disk.
ERRORS :
-"File not found" : a file does not exist in the specified
path. See the log box for more information.
-"String not found" : the searched file exists, but it does
not contain the needed string. See the log box for more
information.
-"UNP not found in path" : too bad!
PATCHES ORIGINE :
- Personnal ones (10 %).
- ftp.uwp.edu internet node (45 %).
- Others (45 %).
TECHNICAL NOTES :
- Crock was written with Turbo Pascal 7.0 from Borland, with
a few assembly language part and Turbo Vision 2.0 .
- UNP is the complet package and can be used without CROCK.
Crock's authors and UNP one are totalement independent.
