Shaderland is a creative-programming puzzle game. You guide a cute polygonal creature through a world of pixels, in pursuit of a hacker who disappeared into the Wired.
The earliest demo of Shaderland was released at Evoke 2025. After a year of development on every part of the game, it's getting close to a Steam release. Evoke have kindly allowed me to bring it back to the party and show just how much it's evolved. (Visitors to Revision may have seen the demo version which released there as well!)
This is one of those ridiculous solo-dev passion projects, a love letter to the demoscene and hacker culture. It's written in Rust and WGSL, using the WGPU abstraction library and Iced's Elm-inspired architecture to structure it. For my part, absolutely no AI was used or ever will be. I've learned an unbelievable amount from making it and it may see use in the future as a livecoding tool as well as a game...
There will soon be a series of devlogs and technical articles at https://shaderland.net explaining in detail how the game works and where it's going!
If you are intrigued by this demo and think you might enjoy the full game when it's released later this year, wishlists on Steam help a lot!
