Yup, it's another BEC oscilloscope music prod! This time, it's in the form of an
audio file (much like Primer), which means I get much more artistic control over
composition (and I can use more complicated audio processing), at the cost of it
being much bigger. To be precise, in lossless format (192kHz, 16-bit FLAC), this
demo is 158,796,327 bytes. And with metadata, ReplayGain info, and thumbnail, it
ended up bigger than that - 161,683,234 bytes! That's 4846 and 4934 times bigger
(respectively) than Triplet by Otomata Labs, the Atari 2600 demo remixed in this
prod. Speaking of - MASSIVE shoutout to Otomata Labs for making Triplet! Totally
incredible, both technically and musically. So when I found out I could make the
image-to-audio tool I use (Hilligoss 2.0, it's on my GitHub) sound much like the
noise bass used in Triplet, I HAD to make an oscilloscope music remix. The final
version of Triple Hit wasn't sent to the Otomata Labs crew before they played it
live at Deadline, by the way, so if all went well, they (and all the sceners who
watched live) got to experience it like I got to experience Triplet! Shoutout to
Violet for doing a remix of Triplet and releasing it at Nova by the way; getting
nerdsniped like that was the reason this prod is so good. At that time, this was
just a half-decent bootleg I was playing around with, but I wasn't super into it
so it didn't have that Special Sauce(tm) that my passionate works (think Primer,
Bomb EP, and Ready?) tend to acquire. And then Violet came around and blindsided
me with a banger remix. That was all I needed, for her to do that, and it became
personal with me. Now I had to one-up her, or I would be stuck with the brand of
being second-best as well as second-fastest. (In all seriousness - her remix TTT
is fantastic. Go to https://youtu.be/66OftCJKDUY to hear it.) Some of the sharp-
eyed sceners may have noticed the SSTV transmission at the start of the prod, by
the way; since you likely don't have an SSTV decoder, I'll spare you the work of
setting one up correctly. It's just an encoding of the text art at the top using
the B/W 8 encoding in MMSSTV. It's only barely visible, due to the noise and the
reverb that fade in, but it's honestly better than I expected. If you're reading
this info text and you made it this far without getting bored and closing it, my
hat goes off to you! Send me a message (I'm dj_level_3 in the Demoscene discord,
or you can email me at contact@djlevel3.cc) to claim your prize. What that prize
is, I have NO idea! We'll see. Anyway, time for some more lore about this song -
It says "Crashing Ableton" during the loading bar section because I accidentally
pasted a HUGE effect chain instead of just one plugin, and that made Ableton lag
so hard that it crashed. Also, as the composition reached final length, I had to
step down the resolution of my renders to stay under Discord's 500MB size limit.
By the end of production, I was at 720x540 just to share the whole thing! In the
final render I did for the party, the 1440x1080 render ended up at 877MB, and at
the full 1920x1440 resolution used in the Youtube gold master, the file was 1.22
GB! Anyway... now that I've bored every reader to death, time to keep working on
the big executable prod I have in the works! You'll have to wait until Easter to
hear the final version, but if all goes well, the product will make you happy ;)
p.s. I sadly cannot respond to Bombe's allegations of putting public pressure on
party orgas. I would have tried to find my ukulele, but I ran out of time, since
I spent WAY too long making sure all the text blocks in the infofile are exactly
80 columns wide, without any indentation, double spaces, or trailing whitespace.
p.p.s. just to be extra silly, I also made the license text 80 columns wide lmao
