Defender III Artie Blues is the sequel to Defender with a soundtrack inspired by Ball Blaster/Ball Blazer featuring an algorithm that plays a captivating Blues tune making choices on several parameters including "how fast to play the riff, how loud to play it, when to omit or elide notes, when to insert a rhythmic break". The melody is accompanied by bassline, drums and chords.
Players can Jam with music as the games sound effects blend pleasantly combining the fast-paced action with the laid-back Blues soundtrack.
The gameplay features remote control Drones that you can do Loop de Loop maneuvers with to spin around to hit the quickly falling Comets and Meteors if you miss them. Enemy landers are best attacked head on and horizonal drift will help you elude the surface to air missiles long enough to take them out.
Falling score power-ups can bring health back to the City when it turns grey after taking too much damage, and the number of waves you complete is displayed on the End Game screen.
Both the End Game screen and the Title screen are playable if you have a light touch on the button!
Technical features:
This colorful game uses an available palette of 256 colors (224 on PAL) and extra phantom pixels from motion blur. This effect is achieved without flicker. by using two doubled frames in a row during high-speed panning animation to encapsulate 30 FPS at 60 FPS. The extra colors and phantom pixels are visible only on the retina of the viewer. Because of the rapid panning motion the mind expects to see the next frame in an adjacent spot instead of being doubled creating an illusion.
The video is 5:45 and shows how to play the game jamming with the Blues soundtrack to complete a few waves and play on the Title Screen and End Game screens.
