DESiRE Linux 2023
by Orby/Desire (orbitaldecay@protonmail.com)

Released at Lovebyte 2023 on Feb. 10, 2023.

This was a little passion project I indulged in December of 2022. What
we have here is a floppy disk Linux distribution. I created it with the
specific intention of releasing a "standardized" distribution for writing
and releasing sizecode for Linux. Naturally, the distribution is also
tiny :) Right now it is extremely simple. It has:

  /dev/fb0 (800x600x24)
  fasm (a tiny self-hosted assembler)
  e3 (a tiny text editor)
busybox (for shell and basic utilities)

There's a lot missing. About 500k is still available on the floppy disk.
This version runs Linux kernel 2.4.37.11. I've also included all of the
source files and scripts I used to build it. If you want to build it
from scratch, you'll have to do it on Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog) as no
modern distros ship with an old enough version of GCC to compile such an
old kernel. I plan on releasing a new version each spring at Lovebyte.

In the next release I intend to get audio working and other tidbits of
functionality. If you like this idea and want to contribute, please get
in touch!

Thanks all. Hope you're enjoying Lovebyte 2023.
