Skrolli Party 2023 teaser
By tdb/Mikkosoft Productions

This entry was made with Marq's PETSCII editor. It's my first try at
PETSCII art, please be gentle.

I got the suggestion to make a teaser image of the upcoming Skrolli Party
as an entry to the PETSCII art competition. The idea almost immediately
popped into my mind: party logo at the top, trolli peeking from behind a
wall, with the year painted on the wall.

wip1.png: Studies of how to draw the title text. Trying to reproduce the
shapes from the magazine logo resulted in ugly holes. Larger version
would not have fit on the screen.

wip2.png: Settled on the title font. The half-checkerboard character
provided the empty upper left 16th I needed in a few places, and provides
a bit of texture. Added trolli and a rough sketch of the wall and the
number on it. Initially I thought of painting the year in graffiti
style, but it quickly became apparent that my artistic talent was not
  enough.

wip3.png: Studies of different ways to paint the numbers. I also got the
idea to put a keyboard in trolli's hand; the diagonal cross character
proved to be really good in making the keys.

wip4.png: Picked the 7-secgment font for the year number and made it
narrower to fit all four digits on a single line. Also added some
  texture on trolli.

wip5.png: Adjusted the wording from "will return" to "will be back" to
make the text better centered. Studies on different styles to add the
  preposition "in".

wip6.png: Settled on the preposition font, added some texture on the wall.

wip7.png: Experiment of creating a brick wall instead of random patterns.
It felt too busy and took focus away from the year number.

wip8.png: I got the idea of making the brick boundaries only partially
visible, as if the wall had been plastered over but the plaster had
  crumbled. Almost final version.
