CONTEST ENTRY:

I started off with a photograph I had taken a few years ago for Instructables.com. It was some random DSP chip from a phone machine, but it looks kind of neat

[original.jpg]

Loaded into the gimp I played with some basic contrast and level settings to make the image more "poppy" for future color dithering

I then started to remove the background, leaving some traces in tact

[step2.png]

after farting around with the image I finally dithered it against a 6 color "apple II" palette that I had made previously to use with my graphics converter (link soon) resulting in the following image

[step3.png]

Totally forgetting I had all the blue in the background on even scan lines (a big no no) I had to shift them to odd lines, so back to the gimp I went, while in there I decided I liked the background as purple better than blue so I changed that as well.

I converted the image using my "Ghetto Image converter"

this generates a giant file full of plot statements, copy n paste into emulator. Looking at the image on the Apple II the circuit board traces were either showing up as pure noise, or big fat chunky blocks of color, so I opted to remove them. Once everything is tweaked, BSAVE to disk and distribute.
