giana.cfg explained:

1 - Volume

volume=100

Value from 0 to 100 : 0 mute, 100 max volume


2 - Joystick configuration:

Actions (Jump, shoot, start):

j_jump=2
j_fire=3
j_start=8

Directions:

j_up=1
j_down=4
j_left=8
j_right=2

Values depend of the system (windows/handhelds) and of the pad used on windows (playstation pad adapter or xbox controller).


3 - Keyboard configuration (win32/linux/...)

Actions (Jump, shoot, start):

Directions:

k_up=273
k_down=274
k_left=276

Values are the default SDL key values for these direction but can be overriden with ascii values or by a character (QWERTY keyboard).

Giana's Return aims to be a worthy inofficial sequel of "The Great Giana
Sisters". "The Great Giana Sisters" is an all time classic Jump'N'Run game made
in the late eighties mainly by Armin Gessert, Manfred Trenz and Chris Hülsbeck
and gained massive attention as a "Super Mario" copy, but it still had it's
very own charm and fanbase.

Giana's Return is 100% FREEWARE and does not cost you a single cent, should
you have paid for it please let us know so we can take legal steps and help
others to avoid a possible trap. You are not allowed to distribute the
download on any medias or online places without written permission. Official
mirrors are available and listed on the official homepage - Please respect
this! A contact form is available there.

Giana's Return was released a while ago but was in unfinished state. This
version here is fully recoded from scratch, with new graphics, new sprites,
storyline, new music and many other funky things never seen before. It's fully
pimped up for your retro feeling gaming pleasure!

Evil Swampy and his followers have stolen the magic ruby, which made it once
possible for Giana and Maria to return from their dream. Many creatures are
after this ruby, but does it really have power, or was it just a coincidence?
As if this was not bad enough, Swampy fell in love at first sight with Giana's
sister Maria and shamelessly kidnapped her. She was just in the wrong place at
the wrong time.

Take over the role of Giana, go on the search for the magic ruby and most
importantly, save your beloved sister Maria and get home safe!

Giana is not helpless at all, just bump the star boxes with your head and hope
for a nice goodie.

Wall Breaker - Giana's hairs morph into a stormy hairstyle, you now can break
               regular bricks.
Thunder      - Thunder gives you the ability to shoot or increase your
               shooting power.
Clock        - Catch a clock, get 10 extra seconds!
Heart        - 1 UP

The regular enemies are usually pretty weak, just as in the original game.
Most of the time it's enough to bump 'em with your feet.

Bosses are considered to be hard, so make sure you find all bonus caves, so
you can collect 100 rubies and gain an additional 1 UP. You will need them!

* This game is probably not a true children's game, as the difficulty increases
  with each world - we believe you must be an experienced gamer to solve this
  game.
* There are warp zones, find 'em and save time! They are usually placed where
  you don't expect them. Try using enemies as trampoline etc...
* Most stages have up to three bonus caves, check each abyss carefully!
* A few jumps are difficult, try to jump at the last second!
* If a way seems to be impossible to pass, try a different approach! Things are
  not always what they seem to be.
* The last boss, Swampy, can not be destroyed physically - you must find the
  secret in order to defeat him!
* Did we mention there is a secret greeting mode? Go and find it!
* Did we mention there are other secrets? Go and find them too! :)

The game is based upon "The Great Giana Sisters" but does not use any ripped
resources from it. Thus it's not allowed to reuse elements of Giana's Return
in other programs, unless you have a written permission.

"The Great Giana Sisters" is a trademark of Armin Gessert / Spellbound AG,
Germany. The Team behind Giana's Return does not intend to break any copyright,
but only to bring a high quality fan sequel free of charge to all Giana fans
out there.

Giana's Return is known by Spellbound to exist and it seems they don't have
any major problem with this.

No one of the original "The Great Giana Sisters" team was involved in the
creation of this game, besides Armin and Manfred giving feedback on (for now)
very old betas of Giana's Return.
