TG 99 Party Report

Since these parties tend to get lamer and lamer , and the entrance price had
risen to over 400 kr (50$) I had long before the party desided that , NO,
NO WAY , not this year. I'd had enough with lameness i thought.
But then , you know how it , go , I started talking with other amiga dudes
and they were like , so , you're coming this year ? ANd I felt like I had
to have a little visit. So I talked to fenriz , and we agreed to sneek in.
We left on saturday and after cruising from Dal to Hamar in his Black BMW
320 , we arrived at vikingskipet in hamar , with beautiful weather ,
and a sensation in our stumachs. WOULD we actually manage to sneak in.
We parked , and some cops stopped us and Fenriz had to show his drivers
liscence and have an alco test :) . We entered the hall and planned
to try to just walk through the guards first. I was stopped at once ,
and started rapping about how I'd lllost my bracelet ( you got a checkered
orange white bracelet when you'd paid the entrance fee). He allmost
fell for my story that mine had broke , I'd went out to get a new one ,
and when I didn't get a new one I was suddenly stuck with my machine
inside the hall with no bracelet. But I got tired of lying to his
face and just said , I'd try to register again or something.
Me and Fenriz then went over to the far and of the hall where there were
no guards , and climbed over some fences and VOILA , free TG entrance.
We were quite pleased about sneaking In , since we'd heard that they
had thought of everything this year . Better security , if you bought
a one day pass , it cost 150 kr , but you paid 400 kr and if you
didn't leave the hall by 17:00 pm, you didn't get the rest of the money back.
And they had allso set up some fences around the hall , so you allmost couldn't
enter behind the hall in the emergency exits.
We went to row 36 where most of the amiga dudes were sitting.
We talked to people like chauple , duck hunter , slummy ,frequent,allanon,
haze,dr.sound,coolTJ,baffle,madsen,paddywack, leia,strife,superted,rolex
and others Iforgot.
As soon as I got there evereyone were talking about how the
demo compo would suck. Low prices , and no good foreign demos. And
I almost knew the demo compo this year would be the worst ever , and
now near the incredible demos released at tg97 . 96 and 98 was ok
but tg97 had some truly great demos by a lot of norvegian and
foreign groups.
I spent the rest of the day talking to the people I met, reminiscing
and chatting. Allso did some things that might not be worth mentioning
here. Since we didn't know if were able to get in , we didn't bring
any equipment , wich actually was a relief , since we didn't have to carry
anything in or out, or be worried if our equipment suddenly was stolen.
But it was allso a little boring since we wern't able to compete in any
of the compos. Or couldn't copy anything.
Most of the amiga dudes were actually just using the network this year
either with a pc, an A4000 with a zorro ethernet card or a1200 with a
pcmcia network card. I find this a little tragic since networking
makes people lazy :)
Cauple were making a fast intro and I was featured in one picture
But when the fast intro compo came , AHH I was only featured neck and down :(
I didn't pay much attention to the music compos , since they usually contain
a lot of bullshit , but this year , there were some good ones too. To bad
I didn't compete.
Chauple had a demo he'd worked on a long time he was going to release.
I thought he'd delivered it , but when I arrived , he told me he hadn't
entered it in the demo compo. I were dissapointed , since I'd made
most of the music , and the modules were nice in my ears.
He showed me the demo and it rocked, but it was a little short.
I'm not shure when it eventually will be released , but it WILL kick ass.
No doubt about that (note : the demo is FUNNY :)
Over to the demo compo then. There were only 5 entrys this year , which is
horrible for such a big party. Another thing horrible is I knew who had
made all of them , and how the results would be right after the compo was
finished. And that sucks , since it was no excitement ( ok a little , but
on the other tg's you hear a rumour that this and that group will release
a demo , then some groups do , and some don't , It's allways exiting.
The spaceballs demo rocked, no doubt. The best norvegian demo since
nexus seven ? Maybe. Duckhunter made a great track , and slummy , started
coding the masterpiece in an incredible one and a half weeks.
Ephidrenas demo were quite impressive aswell , allthough it was not as long
as supermonster by spaceballs , and didn't have as many impressive effects.
Frequent of ephidrena told me they had had a hd crash , wich has led to a one
week loss of time , just prior to the party . The jormas was great for an
ESC demo , however it was'nt anything for the top spot. Still great music
as allwayyys by vesuri. The apathy demo was actually just an overgrown
64k by the polish section of apathy . Conaining nothing but old and
recycled effects.
The price seremony was to be a surprise , since we had told that the three
best amigademos would SPLIT 5000 nkr (800$) , Instead the first price was
10000 nkr. second pric was 5000 nkr. So slummy sat there counting the money.
Not bad :)
Rolex wun the 4chnl , and I'm quite jealous of him , still hard work
deserves credit , no doubt no doubt. Good on ya mate.
After the price seremony more and more people left. I just wandered around
collecting things people had left behind. Like candy and food :)
And saying goodbye to the amigasceners leaving , everyone talking about
how they would NEVER attend another TG again. No doubt. It was no longer
our party.
It was theirs.
Next year , I wont go to TG , not even sneak in on the first day with
my amiga. No way , or will I , no time will telll , but I doubt I'll see
the inside of vikingskipet in hamar in a long time.
