ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ---ùùùúú

The times they are a'changin. Video games are getting fancier and fancier,
and so are the computers needed to run them. Ask yourself: When was the last
time you played a computer game that had less than 256 (or even 16 million
or more) colours? When was the last time you played a game that fitted on
a single diskette (people under 15 years old: diskettes are those small
rectangle-shaped thingies your old man uses to store his wordperfect 5.1
documents on)? And, most importantly, when was the last time you played a
game that was actually so good it kept you trying again and again time after
time? I'll bet you can't even remember! And while the games get larger, with
more realistic grafix and better-than-cd-quality music the whole fun of
actually playing the games seems to be slipping away.

Well, all this ends *NOW*! Let us take you back to the old days, to the
times when the hearts of more than just one generation started to pound
faster because of a single machine, the Commodore 64! With it's (at the time)
astounding amount of memory of 64(!!!) kb, it's fancy 16 colors, it's
dazzling resolutoin of 320x200 pixels and it's earpounding 3-voice SID sound
chip, it changed the life of millions of people.

We would like to invite you to join a competition on this miraculous machine,
a competition in the finest two-player beat'em-up ever:

                        INTERNATIONAL KARATE +

No gore-mode, no spine-ripping, no push-as-many-buttons-as-fast-as-you-can
combo's, no unblockable deathmoves, nope, just good old kicking-the-sh*t-out-
of-eachother-and-the-computerplayer fun! (With an occasional punch in the
nuts... ehrrr...stomach, that is.)

Now I can hear you ask: "How could I join? I don't even _have_ a C64!".
Well, have no fear. With it's >100Mhz CPU speed and it's 32-voice 64bit
digital soundcards, the modern p.c. actually is capable of doing a reasonably
good simulation of this <1Mhz 3-voice phenomenon. A C64-simulator and an
emulator-version of the game will be supplied to everyone that asks for it,
so that no-one will have an excuse not to compete in the epic battle of the
decade!

And an epic battle it will be, for you will be fighting for the holy grail
among prizes: A CD-rom filled with hundreds, if not thousands of c64 games
and tunes, plus all necessary emulators and players needed to be able to
fully enjoy them! Play all those golden classics that form the root of all
games, knowing in your heart that you have won them by being the best there
is, in the greates game ever, on the only system that really matters!

Ok, enough with the sales-talk, here is some actual info:

What: International Karate+ compo on the C64 (emulator)
Where: The Takeover'98 demoparty in Eindhoven, The Netherlands
When: 15/16/17 may/1998 (ok so the compo will probably be on the 16th)
Who: You! Sign up on the party or sign up _now_ by mailing me on the
	   address mentioned below.

The actual rules for the compo still have to be worked out, and will be
announced at the party itself. At the moment I'm thinkin along the lines
of the following compo-system:

1. The contestants are divided into pairs
2. Each pair plays 5 games. A game ends as soon as one of the players is out
3. Loosers are out, winners go on to the next round (back to step 1)

This system obviously has it's flaws. The final rules will probably be based
on the actual number of contestants. To keep things going, we will need to
be playing at several computers at the same time. Now the coolest thing would
be if we had something like a corner with 10 computers (maybe even some real
C64's?) in it orso, but will probably not be realizible. If anyone has any
ideas on this or any other related matter, please mail me a.s.a.p.!

it still is the Truth!)

[---------------------------------------------------------------------------
DISCLAIMER: IF ANYONE DARES TO COME TO ME AND COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW LOUSY THIS
COMPETITION WAS ORGANIZED, I WILL DEMONSTRATE MY REAL-LIFE VERSION OF THE
INTERNATIONAL KARATE LOW-PUNCH ON THAT PERSON. I AM DOING THIS JUST FOR FUN,
AND I AM QUITE BUSY WITH OTHER STUFF, TOO. BUT WHAT IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT:
I ASK FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS DOCUMENT, SO IF YOU DON'T GIVE ANY,
IT IS YOUR OWN F*CKING FAULT IF THE COMPO DOESN'T WORK OUT AS COOL AS
PLANNED. SO DON'T HESITATE TO MAIL ME IF YOU HAVE _ANY_ IDEAS. THANK YOU.
