A Lonely Norwegian at a Finnish Party

                                by tFt/rNo!

I've heard from kure4kancer/rNo that there was this small Amiga *ONLY* party
that were going to be held in Lahti/Finland. I had always wanted to meet my
fellow members in rNo and I had always heard that Finnish parties could get
kinda' crazy. I decided to use my SAS bonus points which I saved up while I
was in the army, to travel to Finland for some days. I packed my bags and
left for Finland. I arrived at Tampere airport where kure4kancer was
waiting for me with his SUPERFAST Fiat Uno 1,4i. From there we went to the
city Tampere where I stayed at k4ks' place for some days. As the days flew
by it was finally time to go to the party, MOTOROLA INSIDE 1998. We had to
travel some 100 km to get to the partyplace. We managed to fit eight
(8!!!!) people (Roz, Tmu, k4k, tFt, tool, Tang, Substance/mono & Marq/Fit),
6 Amigas and a MADNESS audio kit from Roz. (Ed: In Kure4kancer's FIAT????
I'm amazed)

The party was located in some kind of a youthclub I think, with cool
grafitti covering the walls, and a LEGAL wall outside. I was suposed to
make a RNO piece on this wall, but I never got myself to do it :( . At
first there weren't that many people, well there weren't that many people at
the whole party either, but let's say there were less people when we
arrived. We managed to set up our RULING gear pretty fast, at a table
nearest to the big screen. If you were a normal Finnish dude you had to pay
70 FIM to enter, but as I was non-SUOMI I got in for free. As this was a
REAL small and uncommercial party, there were no food stands and such, but I
really didn't mind, as there were plenty of places you could go and get some
food. The organizers were very cool. They weren't like the WANNA-BE-A-COP
organizers that you may find at parties like The Gathering, Assembly or The
Party. Nope, these guys were real sceners who organized just for the pure
fun of it. Nothing bad to say about the organizing. You were also alowed
to booze inside the party place, something I thought was very good. Of
course, since it was allowed to drink, there were alot of drunken people
there, but I don't think there was much damage done, atleast I didn't see
any. Maybe a couple of broken bottles, but as we know shit happens.

It was a bit hard to tell what "known" groups attended since nobody had any
banners (except for us rooling RNO guys. Hehe) but as far as I found out,
there were people from Jormas, Embassy, Artificial People, DualCrew^Shining
and some more rather unknown groups. Well my impression of the general
scener is that we don't like commercial stuff like EURODANCE music. Well,
this proved wrong, as right beside us, there was this group that ONLY played
LAME EURO DANCE tunes. Of course, we had better audio equipment so
Substance/DCS was able to "overplay" the lame Scatman with some real techno.

In the invitation it said that you could rent a shower for 30 mins a time,
well I never saw these showers. And people said that there were no showers,
so I guess that was a bit bad. However, there were showers at each toilet.
I come from Norway, so I don't know if Finnish people shower their ass after
they go and take a dump, but I guess that is what it's used for ;) (Ed: So
the party featured a filthy bunch of people with clean butts? Hehe)

The competitions were not that good. First of all, there were no graphics
or demo compo for the c64, only a music compo (a good one though). Later on
the music compo sucked. Mainly because those mods with more than 4ch
weren't played correctly. I do not know if the organizers played the mods
on a 030 or something because most of the digibooster mods sounded awfull.
Please use a 060 next time. Substance/dcs^mono won this compo. And the 2nd
place went to Enema/Byterapers with a really BAD module that many people
laughed at when it was played, so I suspect some corruption here :( The
graphics competition was okay, not too many masterpieces but the winning
picture was pretty okay. Too, there was something strange about the intro
competition. The winner intro from PhaseTruce went too fast. But ofcourse as
everybody could see; this intro was the best coded. People voted for it
eventhough it was finished after 10-20 seconds hehe. Surprisingly enough
the demo competition was good. The winning demo BANGCOCK by Embassy,
certainly deserved to win, and the 2nd place 84t by Jormas was good as well.
Spedes had a contribution that came 3rd. Also this demo had some quality
above average because of it's cool music and design. There were also other
competitions, like the THX and Football competition. The THX was won by
kure4kancer/rno followed by The hooligan. The football competition was won
by Asswipers.

All in all it was a very good party, mainly due to the cool atmosphere.
Outside the partyplace there were people drinking and grilling sausages
(makkara :) Hi hexagon). Many of these people never did go into the
partyplace at all, but just hung around outside, boozing. Also some really
nice girls attended the party, they mainly hung around the crazy ASCII
people who probably feed them with lots of "goodies "..he..he..way to go ;)

As the only foreigner at this party I did feel a bit as an outsider, since I
didn't understand the language. But mostly people were really cool and
spoke English to eachother just so that I could understand. I also got
invited to The Skenery that was to be held some time later. If I had the
money I sure would like to go there. So my closing words will be: *STOP*
visiting these "LAME BIG COMMERCIAL" parties, go to the small underground
*REAL* parties and experience how parties are supposed to be.
