YES! º
º
Here finally comes the second invitation intro to Wired'97. º
º
You've got in your hands the first ever interactive invitation intro. º
Acme and Imphobia teamed up to present you this piece of virtuality º
in order to remind you all not to miss the scene event of the º
summer. º
º
Be sure to attend Wired and discover what a real scene event really º
is. Wired will be a party you really won't want to forget. º
º
Enjoy your ride... and see you there. º

(And Statix's personalised bit of the nfo file :)) º
º
þ Minimum system requirement: º
º
486DX (but pentium is needed really!) º
VGA (VESA2 will look much nicer) º
Mouse º
13M RAM (It is very hard to make it run in less than 12M! >16M is best) º
Most major sound cards are supported º
º
º
I was having some problems with PMODE/W and some new ATI SVGA cards, and º
also with some PS/2 style mice. All these problems go away if you run º
under WIN95, or use DOS4G/W. (Type DOS4GW W97INV2 to run this way) º
º
If you have a slow machine or low memory, look at the command line optionsº
to find out how to adjust some parameters to make it run on your machine. º
º
Firstly you will need plenty of RAM (>12 Megs) and UNIVBE 5.2 or so to º
use the 15/16 bit colour modes. This demo runs entirely in 15/16 bit º
colour using the Linear Frame Buffer of your VGA card. It uses perspectiveº
correct polys, texture cached lighting and a portal based engine. I made º
everything from scratch, including complete keyframer, level editor, º
engine & tmapper in about 6 weeks (plus a gap for my university exams). º
The textures are stored in a proprietry JPEG like form to save you some º
downloading time ;) The lighting is raytraced during the intro slideshow. º
º
Because this was such a short time (this project has more code than 303 º
and Paper put together) there are many things missing, like better º
collision detection (no bugs!) more dynamic lighting etc etc. But I hope º
you like the result anyway! º
º
Oh and before I forget, the complete level editor, texture editor, etc is º
included as a secret part... but even if you find it it's very nasty to º
use! <grin> º
º
Thanks also to Jay Foad - I asked him (taking the piss) to code me a º
texture cache allocation routine - and he did in it under 4 hours. Thanks º
Jay! And of course, Jay is the best coder I have ever met... º
º
The music system is IMS by Pascal (Nik Beisert) and let me tell you, it's º
really a lovely system to use. Soon it will be perfect! I must thank º
Pascal a lot for all the cool chats on IRC and the help he has given me. º
º
And did you notice the dynamic reverbing? :) º
º
If you are having problems making it run, you may need the /t n parameter,º
where n is a number - 50 is the default. A lower number is needed for º
machines with small amounts of RAM. (and sometimes a higher number will º
help! Experiment!) º
The higher the texture resolution, the nicer it looks. Go on, treat º
yourself! Go and buy another 8 megs of SIMMS ... º
º
Finally I will use the coder's prerogative and make some personal greets: º
Hi to: Chris Killpack, Graham Walker, Simon Poliakoff and Woody for all º
the moral support/bugreports/patience. Glenn Corpes/Bullfrog for the smallº
font and general wonderousness. Peanut for predicting my failure in the º
exams. Darkness for asking me to do this in the first place.PL and Vic forº
putting up with me. The guys on #coders who talk to me. Findus for being º
a dirty old man. Joanne for being the bright yellow ruler of the universe.º
Aap for banging on about Designers Republic, and being totally insane. º
Basehead for still having faith.Dune for being a really cool/talented guy!º
Oi Optix: Nooooooo! Tony Cox/Bullfrog for being the one everyone loves to º
hate, persuading me to do maths, and ferrying me to / from work: Thanks! º
Lamb and Leftfield for brilliant albums to code to. Olive for one of the º
best live gigs I've been to... Hmm, I think that's more than enough! º
º

º
- Use the left mouse button to go forwards. º
º
- Press "A" to use the autopilot (you lazy person!) º
º
- Use the left and right SHIFT keys to scroll the info on the television º
screens. º
º
- When at the race start, press R to start the race (see below) º
º
- ESC to quit, or to leave race mode when racing. º
º
Can you find the secret part(s)? There might even be a prize to be had... º
º
º
COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS: º
º
/t n sets the texture cache resolution; default n=50. Use lower numbers º
for faster loading or if you have low ram size. º
º
/q selects quiet mode (no music) º
º
/f switches off the lens flare and ship's fire trail (for slow machines º
or hires mode) º
º
/n to skip the intro/exit bitmaps part, in case you are *REALLY* short º
on RAM! Note that running this in 12M or less is almost impossible. º
If you really want to try hard, type: SET DOS4GVM=1 to enable dos4gw º
virtual memory and then run the demo with dos4gw. This is untested º
and if it doesn't work, the only solution is to get some more RAM! º

Many people have recently asked me (Statix) what group I am in. Acme? º
Psychic Link? Well, I suppose I am in both, and neither! The fact is, º
I just like making demos with my friends, and it gets rather tiring º
to explain to people all the time that I am in no group really... º
º
For this reason, after talking to some people on IRC, I decided (only º
half seriously?) to make a new "label", rather like a record label. º
º
After all, in these modern times of the demo scene, it seems that the º
idea of a label under which artists release stuff is more appropriate º
than the rigid structure of a group. (Associativity, inverse, closure and º
identity... Damn! Maths) (I guess the music groups have been doing this º
for some time now...) º
º
And so Hippy Commune productions was born. I release this invitro under º
that label, and urge you to include it on your productions to give º
support to this movement! Anybody who wants to can use this name - I º
am not going to try and control anything in any way. It's a commune º
after all! ;) º

Included in this invitro is a little racing game, in case you get bored! º
(why would that happen?) It is really very simple, due to lack of time. º
º
You must simply race around the level, touching the 5 checkpoints in º
order (So be sure to find them before you start the race!). º
º
You will be racing against computer players - when you find them, press º
R to start the race. Good luck! º
º
(This is a shit game, but who cares? it's just for fun - and this is a º
meant to be a demo! remember? :)) Unfortunately there was no time to work º
on the AI of the computer players. OK OK! Enough excuses... º
