O Z O N I U M by Parasite
-------------------------------------------------------
This WiLD!demo was developed in two years by Peter
Møller-Andersen and Dion René Jørgensen for the
WiLD!demo competition at The Party 1996.
In addition Ruben Borup joined the project in the
final phase (autumn 1996) for adding special effects
and rendering support.
The music was composed at The Party by Henrik Juhl
- also known as Slide of Polka Brothers - using
Fast Tracker. Luckily one was very kind to let Henrik
use his PC for composing. For that, we are greatful.
The production was put together from tiny pieces
by Dan Frederiksen using his Miro DC-20 video card.
The music and the clips was synchronized just a few
hours before deadline. That might explain the lack
of timing here and there.
At the party I, Ruben, worked very hard to add a few
explosion scenes. The time was short, and I needed
massive rendering power. Using Jesper Dyhrman's dual
Pentium Pro we managed to finish a few sequences done
- thank you very much.
\\\ LiteWerx. had a project to release too, and they
were using the same hardware for broadcast.
This caused some stress to Dan and his computer.
However, we managed to get a few organizers to see
most of the production and thereby have their accept
that we were just a bit late for the deadline (about
40 minutes). Special thanks to Jesper Sommer and
Michael Hviid for their tolerance.
The major hurdle was the music.
Having servere hardware problems Henrik was forced
to re-compose the music for OZONIUM. In about 4-5 hours
this was done - very impressive. Unfortunately there
was not enough time to finish the module, so a very
short loop was the only solution for continous music
in the production.
This resulted in 3-4 minutes of VERY monotoneous
music. Unfortunately there was no time to add soundfx.
The module had to be converted into a wav-file so it
could be used in the motion-JPEG for broadcast.
This REALLY gave us a hard time.
No-one really knew how this could be done, or rather,
no-one was able to make it work.
Using the help of Sh0dan, Jets and Scoof we managed
to get an acceptable wav-grab except for the drums
who fucked up once and a while. Without their help
we would be forced to deliver OZONIUM without music
at all - that would have been a disaster!
As the WiLD!demo competition started we really got
ourself a surprise. The numerous productions of high
quality was astonishing, and none of us really thought
we had a chance of getting ranked.
We came in 2nd. For that we are very pleased.
