Once upon a time there where two brothers sitting in their dark computer
room.They were quite fascinated by the thought of making the worlds
greatest computer party in the big hall next to them. And so they did.
Now, 5 years later, we would like to end our dream, where it all
started.- In the city that made a real, live, 3D dot-ball and other
sculptures as a tribute to The Party. Welcome back to Aars.
Welcome to The Party 1996 - The End Of An Era.
The Party 1996 will be held in Messecenter Aars, the place with the real
party atmosphere. The Party 1996 will be held from Friday 27 December at
10:00 CET to Sunday 29 December at 15:00 CET.

GENERAL RULES
===============
* If you want to take part in a competition you must be present at The Party.
* If too many contributions are delivered for a competition a competent jury
will make a selection.
* All contributions can only participate in one competition.
* We will copy and spread all contributions.
* Compo-disks will not be returned.
* PC hardware configuration: Pentium 133 MHz, 16 MB ram, SVGA by VESA 1.2
Support, Soundblaster 16 or Gus Max.
* Amiga hardware configuration: Amiga 1200-030 50 MHz/882 50 MHz, 8 MB ram.
* All entries for Amiga can be compressed with either LZX or LHA.
* All entries for PC can be compressed with either ZIP or ARJ.
* No self-extracting archives will be allowed.
* No other archive-types will be allowed.
* All contributions must be able to run from HD and CDROM, except for WiLD!
demos.
* We will not accept anybody selling anything without our permission.
* Alcohol and drugs are not allowed at the party place. If we find any it
will be confiscated and not given back.
* Intoxicated people will be thrown out or handed over to the police.
* We will not accept weapons, spraycans or firework etc.
* People who course damages of any kind will of course have to pay for it.
* We take no responsibility for illegal swapping, software, hardware, video
etc.
* The entrance price is dkk 250.

AMIGA DEMO
* Take up no more than 6 MB on disk in uncompressed form.
* Max. one demo per coder.
* No more than 10 min. will be shown.
PC DEMO
* Must be a standalone executeable with or without data files.
* Use no more than 600 KB of conventional memory.
* Support silent mode (-nosound).
* Take up no more than 6 MB on disk in uncompressed form.
* Run while HIMEM.SYS is loaded.
* Max. one demo per coder.
* No more than 10 min. will be shown.
WiLD! DEMO
* In this competition there are practically no restrictions.
* Allowed audio connectors: (mini)jack (mono/stereo), scart, phono
(mono/stereo).
* Allowed video connectors: Phono composite pal, VGA/SVGA 15 pin SUBD
(max. 800x 600), RGB 23 pin SUBD (Amiga), scart composite pal, SVHS
mini din.
* Note: If your contribution can take part in other competitions it cannot
take part in WiLD!.
* A complete list of the hardware & software used must be available.
* Entries may also be delivered on VHS or SVHS tape.
* No more than 15 min. will be shown.
AMIGA INTRO
* Max. size 40 KB.
* Max. one intro per coder.
* Must be right mousebutton exitable.
* No more than 5 min. will be shown.
PC INTRO
* Must be a standalone executeable with or without data files.
* Use no more than 600 KB of conventional memory.
* Exit by pressing ESC-key at any time.
* Support silent mode (-nosound).
* Take up no more than 64 KB on disk in uncompressed form.
* Run while HIMEM.SYS is loaded.
* Max. one intro per coder.
* No more than 5 min. will be shown.
4 KB AMIGA/PC INTRO
* 4 KB is a joint competition for Amiga and PC. The rules are the same as
for the intro compos, but with a 4 KB filesize limit.
GRAPHICS
* Max. size is 1 MB.
* Max. screenmode is 800 x 600 pixels.
* Max. screendepth is 24 bitplanes.
* Accepted filetypes: IFF, TIFF, GIF, PCX, JPEG, TARGA.
* The pictures will not be scaled or converted.
* Max. one picture per graphician.
4 CHANNEL MUSIC
* Max. size is 1 MB.
* Must be Protracker format.
* Will be played with Accessible Player (Amiga).
* Max. one tune per musician.
* Max. 5 min. will be played.
MULTI CHANNEL MUSIC
* Max. size is 1 MB.
* Any filetype that Cubic-Player v1.7 recognizes is accepted.
* Entries will be played on a Gus Max.

New demo size in PC Demo
Based on the discussion on IRC about the PC Demo size limit and the huge
amount of E-Mails on this subject, we have decided to change the max. size
of PC Demos to 6MB. This decision is final!

Extra tables available at The Party 1996
We have managed to get an alternativ sleeping area and have therefor
converted some of the sleepinghall into party area. This mean that we can
host an extra 400 seats. The reservation system has yet again been opened
to receive your registration, but hurry up - the tables won't be there for
long...

The Party 1996 sold out!
It has already happend, The Party 1996 is completly sold out! And
therefor we do not accept reservations anymore. We are though working on
getting external sleeping facilities and converting the sleepinghall into a
party hall so that more people can get tables. Stay tuned to this page for
further updates. Meanwhile it is still possible to get in at The Party
1996 without a reservation as long as you don't bring any equipment - there
is simply not any free tables left.

PC Demo size limit?
Some people has been complaining about the fact that the PC demo compo
size limit is 10Mb. They would like to have it lowered to 5Mb, therefor we
will have a discussion about it on IRC in channel #coders this Thursday at
20:00 GMT (europe + 1 hour), be there if you want to be heard.

VESA 1.2 VS VESA 2.0
Some sceners has been complaining about the fact that the PC compos has to
run on a PC which gfx board "only" support VESA 1.2. The compo computers
will be using a PCI SVGA S3 TRIO64 2MB gfx board which has a VESA 1.2 bios
onboard. If anyone want's to use VESA 2.0 then you must include a UNIVBE
driver in your production. The reason for choosing this gfx board and not
a board with VESA 2.0 onboard is that wery few people has such a board, and
the idea of a demo is that everybody can run the demo, otherwise it would
just be like the WiLD demos, which you will only see at The Party.

THE PARTY QUESTIONNAIRE
=========================
- You Gave Us Your Opinion About The Party
A questionnaire was running here for a couple of month. During that time
a lot of visitors gave us their opinion about The Party - what we did wrong
and what they would like to see in future parties. See the results below.
- Conclusions
Concerts
By far the biggest mistake we have ever made was to arrange a rave concert
in the sleeping hall. We have already explained why we did, so let's not
repeat that. But we promise that you will witness such a brain dead idea
again.About half of the visitors would like to have a concert at during the
party, and about the other half didn't care much about it. It probably
depends a lot of who is playing, because we got good feedback from the
Silents concert and the Zyncom concert.
Competitions
The one and only valid size for amiga intros is 40KB ! No doubt about
that, and definitely no reason to experiment with other sizes.
MED format is popular as a tracker format and there is a demand for
allowing that in 4 channel music compo. This we will still consider, since
it would be difficult to check that the number of tracks doesn't violate
the 4 channels rule.
The graphics competition still concerns a lot of people. Let's face it,
there is a lot of different styles (pixel, redrawing, tracing etc.) And
there is a lot of different opinions about what is real artwork, and what
should therefore be allowed to compete. But even if we allowed only truly
orginal artwork we would have a hard time to catch swindlers. The most
popular idea is to split the graphics competition into pixel and raytracing
graphics.
In general there is satisfaction with the prizes and the amount of sponsors.
C-64 competitions are very popular.
The fast compo's are also popular.
And it seems like we cannot play loud enough from the big screen -
according to your advises you want to be blown away. OK, we understand
that it will enhance the party feeling, so we will do our best to play even
louder.
Facilities
Visitors are concerned about to have enough free hot showers
available.Actually we already knew that, but we have just not been able to
do anything seriousely about it, which is definitely not satisfying.
More surprisingly there is a demand for clean toilets. We have never been
concerned about to keep the party place particular clean - something that
we apparently have to take better control over.
The free laserdisc room is popular - really popular - nobody wants to see
that go away.Don't worry about that, this is definitely a true part of The
Party.
House Rules
Alcohol should still not be officially allowed - but we don't have to keep
a tight control with it.
Duration
Most people wants the party to last more days. To be honest so would
we.But as organizers we just don't have energy for more. Normally we all
arrive early morning on the 25th to prepare - and we have to stay an extra
day to take the party down and clean up. There is unfortunately no way we
can extend the duration - however much we would like to do so - it's
physically impossible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is no longer possible to reserve tables since we are
overbooked. You can however still register and attend the party. Table
reservations are only valid until the 27th at 1200 CET. After that time any
leftover tables will be assigned to people without table reservations.If you do
not have a table, you should not bring any equipment as we can not guarantee
that you will get a table.
