         NAID 96 PARTY REPORT

Ok after 52 hours of not sleeping I
have decided to write a party report
for Imphobia #12. Overall I would say
that Naid 96 was quite a successful
party. As I'll elaborate later there
were the downfalls and the many high
points climaxing in the demo
competition. Since I unfortunately
don't know the results as I speak I'll
speak in a more general tone.

First off I guess I'll have to start
out with the downfall of the party in
itself. As with every party they will
experience their problems and
hopefully they can learn from these.
Everything really seemed to run pretty
smoothly along the lines of deadlines
in which everything was kept pretty
strict with the exception of the demo
compo which was extended. Fortunate
for some and as always unfortunate for
others. One problem that hit me, along
with many of the other demo sceners in
attendance was in the lack of thinking
ahead pertaining to the specific
compos. The music compo as compared to
last year was the smoothest of them
all. The others well weren't as
smooth. The biggest disgrace must have
came in the art competition. While the
entries were quite nice. Not only did
they have "NO" judges at the time the
compo was to start but the one person
in charge of it wasn't ready to start
on time. Not only that, but no offense
to him, he wasn't an artist and really
had no right in holding that compo.
After we got past these "small" points
of having a jury that consisted of no
artists and the compo being delayed.
We had many problems with the
resolution. Quite often would it not
be able to display the full 640x480
resolution and we were left to
scrolling through pictures. If you ask
me this isn't the most favorable way
of viewing pictures. Ok enough of my
bitching. As bad as I have made it
seem the many good things "hopefully"
overshadowed the bad.

As with every demo party this one
brought many people from all over the
world. Not only did we have Liam from
England, we had Jak and Tasmaniac from
Belgium and Higher Being from
Australia. Sorry to those that I
missed that were visiting from across
the ocean. Everything seemed to be
really nicely organized and a lot of
socializing was going on. As many of
you know this socialization is what
can make or break a demo party. Other
really good points were that this time
the quality and amount of entries was
quite higher than last year. This
culminating in the amount of great
entries being put in the music compo.
Congrats to everyone that competed.
Other highlights including the many
other compos that the organizers held.
Unfortunately many weren't able to
compete due to the fact that there was
sooo much to doo.

So overall this party, as many people
wanted it to be, was a very scene
oriented party. We really had no
problems with commerciality so no one
was left with a bad taste in their
mouth. I must say it was quite a good
experience. To all I met, please drop
me e-mail at : bragiel@uiuc.edu.
Greets to all at NAID!
