Monomatik have a thing with figures going. All their release-numbers are
divisible by twelve without remainder. And even though Monomatik is
being formed by three people, the cover of their latest release, on
which all of the six track-titles start off with "the one", shows a
total of four faces. Maybe something like their version of the fifth
Beatle.
Following the idea of their previous three EPs on iD.EOLOGY, Monomatik
keep trying hard at gaining some romanticising aspects from a more and
more technified environment on "But we made it so far". They transfer
the bittersweet tone of British 80's indie-pop to minimalist
electronic-tracks, adding the sound-aesthetics of old 8-bit computers
along with synthpoppish vocal-bits and the grumbling of electric
bass-guitars.
The resulting mixture of melancholy, alienation, euphoria and hope does
not only creep over us because Monomatik know the tricks of the trade
when it comes to indietronic. It also creeps over us because this EP is
not only the latest, it's also going to be the very last release from
Monomatik. But since we, too, know how to add up our figures, we refuse
to accept that this fact is true any more than the fourth Monomatik
member is real. Or the fifth Beatle. Nothing's over 'til it's over.
