\I[Rubberduck about TBL|By Frame|Section: Groups]

\F2\4\MThe Black Lotus

\F3\1Tudor, Rubberduck and Offa being present at Icing '96

\F1\1"We have always had talented coders and lately some really good graphicians and musicians have joined as well."

\3That's what you at least could say about TBL. With members like Facet, Tim, Louie, Lizard, Supernao, Danny (not to mention their Swedish coders Offa, Equalizer, Noy, Rubberduck etc. etc.) they have absolutely become one of the most powerful and respected groups in the world. To get to know more about the situation behind, before and beside The Black Lotus, I made an interview with those friendly Swedish guys. Rubberduck was my target and I began by asking him: What's the recipe behind such a success as TBL?

\2- ...Still many groups have good members but no success. Furthermore you need a great spirit and will to make something. I think that is what makes us different from many other groups. We are very enthusiastic and love what we're doing. During 1995 we competed with demos and intros on all big parties (The Gathering, Icing, Assembly, Remedy, Digital Symposium, The Party) and 1996 seems to be even more active. Most TBLers come from the same city (BoĆ²nge) so we meet every day and can plan projects and help each other which is really great. The contact with the other people are done through IRC and phone (sjeez my phonebill will kill me soon...). You can join the IRC-channel #tbl almost anytime and be sure to find some of us there. As long as we think its fun we will continue like this and I really hope that things will go just as good in the future...

\3In about 1990, or something, Rubberduck wanted to start a demogroup. He goes on telling me...
\2- I had absolutely no contact with the actual scene but what the heck, I asked Dickhead (Kewl! /t0j) if he wanted to be in the group and he said yes. Our group was born. Now we only needed a good name. As you all know we failed totally, haha. Anyway for you guys (and girls) who haven't understood it, black lotus is a heavy drug in fantasy literature (read Conan...). Shortly after that Offa and Hokke joined. We were now four coders and had great fun. After that we recruited some local talents and the group grew. We must have been one of the few groups build up of coders only in the beginning. Nothing really happened until 1993 or something when we started to release some of our work. We even got some graphicians and musicians and everything was great. After that we gained more and more success, people left and people joined. Now I think I can say that we now have all the people we need and there won't be any more members for quite a while.
