I agree on the fact that there is better design in new demos, but the feeling has totally disappeared. Look at Northstar&Fairlight's Megademo III with Mahoney & Kaktus, read the scrolltext and see what the whole thing was all about back then. Not only elite talk or something; there was actually a lot of funny bullshit to read. M&K laid the whole ground for all musicians in the scene of today with their Noisetracker, which other people made even better in e.g. PT1.1, 2.3 and 3.15.

Okay, there was a big gap between the 'lamers' and the 'elite' back then, but I didn't care, since we were four friends who sat down in front of our computers, sharpening our talents to become something BIG when we grew up. We had FUN, didn't care a lot about all those elite groups. Everyone of us five are still more or less active in the scene today, but it is not the same thing anymore. There is more business than FUN and that stinks.

Greatest respects to the 'new' sceners, since there wouldn't be a future in the scene without you, but when you say that the old scene seemed to suck, please have in mind that the ones you complain on are the pioneers who laid the foundation to the whole scene of today.
