ASSEMBLY '96: INFO ABOUT C64 CONTRIBUTIONS & RESULTS
           ----------------------------------------------------

I'm extremely proud to present you with all the C64 contributions released
at the greatest party in the world so far - Assembly '96, that is - which
was held in Helsinki, Finland from 16th to 18th of August 1996.

Many quality demos got released this year, proving that C64 scene isn't even
close to dying yet. The effects seen in today's C64 demos even beat some
of those seen on Amiga or PC! OK, maybe the demos aren't audiovisually as
impressive, but do remember to compare the CPU clock frequency, the price
and age of the equipment and the effects achieved! Just watch C64 democoders
always pushing back the limits on their 6510 CPU (From year 1975) running at
less than one full MHz (980 KHz)! This is the _REAL_ spirit!

Here are the results of the C64 competitions held at Assembly '96:

                                FILE TYPES:
                                -----------

.LNX suffix = LyNXed file. Files have just been joined
together without compression. A bit like LhA
with "do not compress files" mode on. Use Lynx
to extract these files (I recommend The
                           Ultimate Lynx 3).

1!, 2!, 3! & 4! prefixes = Zip-Coded disk side. One diskside has been
packed to four separate files. A bit like DMS
on the Amiga, but much more inefficient packing
ratio due to RLE compression. Use Zip-Code
Disk Unpack to decompress these files.
If you're an emulator user, you might want to
convert the zip-codes to D64 images.

(Both The Ultimate Lynx 3 and Zip-Code Disk Unpack are available at least
from The Sharks IRC file server Sharkbite. (These files are also available
      via WWW at http://stekt.oulu.fi/~mysti/the_sharks/online.html))

How to transfer the files to a real C64? It depends. If you're an Amiga
owner, the archive PDATA352.LHA - or better say it's contents - in this
very directory will be extremely useful to you. On the other hand, if
 you're a PC user, you'll most likely need a RS-232 adapter for your C64.
After that, it's just the matter of using a combination of two terminal
programs and a null modem cable. In both cases, I suggest you to take a
                       look at the PData archive...
