FLAG '98 - The Celebration of Irresponsibility and Incompetence

                                                   opinion by CreaMD/DMAgic

Disclaimer: What you are going to read isn't funny.
            Don't say that I didn't warned you.

NUMBERS AND FACTS

   When : feb 6.-9. 1998
   Where : Budapest, Hungary
   Visitors : ca 500 people (20-30 C64-ers)
_____________________________________________________________________________
that's COOL

- The demo show in Saturday, presented mainly c64 demos,
(though I missed older (and imho better) better demos - Wonderland 9,10 by
Censor, Red Storm/Triad, Comalight 12/Oxy, Acces Denied/Rfx, Tower Power
  etc etc..)

- A rather unusual demo by React with emotionally strong ecological topic
"harvested" the greatest applause from all the presented contributions.

- The people weren't such a stupidos like on Scenest III and didn't make such
  noise with their big speakers.

- I slept more than 10 hours during the party.. that's a record.

CATASTROPHES

- invitation full of lies (e.g. the TRULY ELITE party..)
- stolen prizes (worth 3,400 000 ft according to ivitation ;-)
- short electricity colaps (rumours sayz that director of school shut it off)
- broken glass on some door and broken toilets by some lamers..
_____________________________________________________________________________
BLA BLA

"Effect Bazmeg" (various hungarians)

"English" - (MC Valach , heard about 1000 times ;-)

-"Do you want beer"? (Me)
-"Ano" (Lion)

-Do you make only covers? (Da Blondie asked me after compo)

AND NOW THE REAL PEARLS ;-(

- "Promising anything about prizegiving may end up in sucking bigtime,
so we promise nothing - we won't give neither less nor more than any
other party. This means (hahahahhahahahahahhahahahah) hardware and software
and maybe some cash, all around 3,400 000 forints worth (buhahhahahhaha...)

this rather promising text is taken from the invitation,
In fact oragnisators give prizes worth ca 1000ft
(10 dm!!!!!!! = some choccolates) instead of promised prizes
worth 36,000 dm + entrance fee, correct me if I'm wrong.

- "...we are not lamers, and won't make ourselves ridiculous by giving mouse
   pads or pascal handbooks..."

In fact it's pity that organisators didn't gave at least them.. instead
they spilt some (200) advertisng pens into audience, and gave some 4 pieces
of some sweet bonbons (or whatever it was) and an empty processor box to
some guys which won something (winners of "fun compo" ?)
THIS IS NOT EVEN RIDICULOUS and LAME, THIS IS a FUCKING LIE!

- "...they said die...",

(Tomcat translating the words of bunch of hungarians in audience,
reacting on MC Valach's word about stolen prizes..)

- "...don't go to hungaria next time..." (Tomcat)

- "...produly present you a final initation to FLaG'98 - European Demoscene
   Meeting..."

This joke is taken from the begining of the invitation.
Imho to gain more foreign visitors means that you should make strong base
for the next events which mean not to spoil everything with words like
"foreigners are asholes" and lying in invitation. I won't comment the fact
that except of the quality of the contributions (which was quite good) the
invitation is probably the only thing which was international at this
   party.

- ah uh.. the last invitation citate: "Come All! We did serious work to make
this event possible, and give you a really remarkable party"

I must thank to organisers that at least the party place existed.
As far as remarkability is concerned they did a good job I will for sure
  remember this party.

- "...this is not the scene we are part of..."
(Poison reaction after the incident at "prizegiving ceremonial")

- What can I do for you ? (Poison asking Manic)
- Wake me up at the 6 o'clock in the morning... (Manic)

Sorry for some missinterpretations caused by "too much recollections error..."
____________________________________________________________________________

I would like only to add one more personal thingy... Tomcat later came to
our sleeping cell and apologised MC Valach for his reactions at the final
"ceremony".

FOR TOMCAT

I hope you don't think that you can say something in front of public and
then want MC Valach to personally apologise your words. This is not sincere
to humiliate somebody in front of AUDIENCE and then beg for excuse in PRIVACY.
If you want to excuse your reaction tell us truth what happened to hardware
and software prizes worth 3,400 000ft and what will you do with money earned
on entrance fee. I didn't go to Budapest to earn money, I don't care about
the prizes, because that's not the sense of the competion. I'm just curious
to know how it is possible to make fools of the party audience and even make
some of them to shout "die" ...

I spent a good time with these people: Orcan, Greatrix, Manic, Mc Valach,
Da Blondie, Posion (your pic was the best), Oswald ("missing you" missed
the rephrain.. ;-), BBT (char-grid effect was excellent), Con, AMN, Lion,
Jean, and the rest of c64'ers. , Also greets to: An unknown amiga fan,
Astroidea (non astroidea) Girl which we also met on ScenestIII, The big
and fat guy who ate the whole pizza. To "effect bazmeg" guy sitting behind
me when we was watching c64 demoshow :-), All the wise guys who didn't make
noise with their big speakers, all the girls presented on the party, The bus
driver who give us (me and Orcan) advice how to get on the party place, and
all the forgoten ones who helped, and entertained me during the party time.

Fux to: all the vandals and empty heads presented at the party.

Shame on: organisers and an unknown guy who "invented" the Flag'98 invitation.
