Skills Five, another issue of the Original ASCII Scene Magazine. I've
seen quite a few ascii mags come out since Skills # 4, some even reach
ing multi-issue status. But one thing was always lacking -- QUALITY.
Who really wants to LOADup one of those badly coded interfaces to read
about ascii, which is the RAWest form of computer art. I feel there's
no point to crazyass litebars that take too long to move between artic
les. I get disappointed when the litebar finally reaches it's destina
tion, only to arrive on the name of a contentless article, or point
less interview that tells you nothing other then that the interviewer,
as well as interviewee are both illiteratetete idiots. While attempt
ed immitation is often called the sincerest form of flattery, the fini
shed product doesn't always seem quite so flattering. So for the 5th
time, I give you Skills, my raw yet beautiful, easy to carry, informat
ive, interesting to read, hard to anticipate, and love to hate ASCII
Scene Magazine, to remind you why the first so often remains the best.

in a scene, a community where there's supposed to be no skin tone, no prejudice
of any kind, against anyone whether they be black, white, jewish, fat, thin
tall, short, i have been made an outcast in the scene i once held dear to me.
I have been slandered by many of the people i considered to be friends, who
i actually thought i might be able to count on in a time of need.

I do my best to maintain a standard of overall high quality with my
magazine, not covering such trivial events as yet another tearyeyed
scene departure, but the above is a bit different. For someone to
express anger over being treated a certain way due to their weight,
(or head-size, for that matter) when that person is in truth one of
the worst offenders of his own rules #ascii has ever seen is ridic-
ulous. I believe that everything good and bad you do comes back to
you. Discofunk 1974 was a veritable fountain of insults to any and
everyone, including myself. But like so many others, he just could
not take what he dished out. If someone relishes in the anonymity
of the scene, then why spread a photograph of themselves, an extre-
mely unflattering one at that, all around IRC? No one feels sorry
for you, Discofunk; I have little doubt in my mind that like so
many others, you too will be back; But while we're waiting, you can

breakthrough in ascii in CIA, where I met your ass. Then I started
Noname-ONE around that time, I hooked up with Discyple (Scott) and
mentored him, and even before that, I mentored Polymorph (ask them
about it, they'll tell you..) .After 10 months of Noname, I got
tired, and started kWest ascii.. this is when I established my TRUE
crew of people; The Prodigy, Discyple, Polymorph.. and a few others,

(serial+kWest merger, etc..) and kWest died. And that brings us to
now, NNDeuce, as you put it..

<EPBugsy> I'm glad none of the mergers went through in a way, the scene woulda
been a lot different, which brings me to my next question, I call it
the Ms. America Inquiry.

one thing, I would make it so the artists came in new-like every

Where did you pick them up, and what are they like?
<karachi> Bizzarro is a madass ansi artist from Fire. I met him through Nerp.
He mentioned one day that he drew some ascii, so I peeped it, it was
PHAT, I invited him, he joined.
<karachi> As for Tripulogic, I came across him like, 2 days ago. His style
resembles that of mine, in that it is grafitti'esq.

member, The Prodigy retired. What do you plan to change about Odelay
given the power of your newfound position?

<_bugsy> So you're gonna induct more members, to create larger, higher quality
packs?
<konami> Yeah, that's basically what i've been doing since Prodigy left.
<_bugsy> A few people that are considered important in the ascii scene have
had some harsh words for some of the more recent Odelay packs (which
you've presided over), regarding the use of extended ascii to shape
newschool pics and fonts, what do you have to say about that?
<konami> Well, it's very unfortunate that people felt that way, because it
was efficient. the high-ascii trend has seen it's day pretty much.
I hope it can make a come-back though. because the area is still new.
<_bugsy> Maybe so, but I always agree with experimentation of new methods
of art creation, hence my unique brand of oldschool.
<_bugsy> What do you think of the current state of the ascii scene;
crews pop up and die daily, often before reaching even a second
pack -- where do you think we're going with this?
<konami> It's becoming a two party system.. like Democrats and Republicans..
or scene-wise, acid and ice (years ago)
<konami> Odelay is now at least as durable as Remorse. it's proven it can keep
together under terrible circumstances.

<_bugsy> Recently, Discofunk 1974 left Odelay and the scene, do you think
Odelay can survive this tragic loss?
<konami> Well, this caught me quite off-guard.. i'm still proccessing the
situation now.
<konami> But Discofunk was not here long, and he did piss off a lot of the
people.
<_bugsy> I see, I hope it works out for the best -- I'm sure it will.
<konami> My over-zealous friend and SS Meatpod should be enough help.

<_bugsy> Earlier you said you believe Odelay is at least as durable as Remorse
-- I've spoken to quite a few people who believe that with recent
packs, Odelay has surpassed Remorse in quantity and quality -- do you
feel Odelay holds the #1 spot in the ascii game? If not, are you
striving to make Odelay a household name over Remorse?
<konami> I think Odelay is the best, I always have.. that's why I've stuck
with it for so long.
I would certainly like to see some of the same kind of respect
Remorse gets in Odelay. And I think that dream is coming true.
And secondly, I hope the two groups can respect each other.
<_bugsy> Yeah I remember seeing you in Odelay packs way back, your art was
always badass -- as far as respect, I think Odelay is definately
deserving of it, not many groups reach 15 packs as Odelay just did.

about the ascii game, or get rid of one person that's involved in it
for that matter, what, or who would it be?

references through Prodigy, Discofunk, and Discyple.
