SMAU 1991 Report By all italian members of Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SMAU is since some years the biggest and most popular computer exposition in
Italy and has become since a while the best chance for all groups to meet
themselves. The rendez-vous of this year was Sunday the 6th of October 1991, of
course at the Commodore stand. In this stand, every year, Commodore offers
about 20 Amigas to play games. Usually the drives are locked, so to change disk
you need something to force the lock, but this year we found some "free" drives
so there were no problems to show all demos. In fact, almost all well-known
groups had brought a contribution for this meeting. Of course no competitions,
but it's obvious that all groups tried to show the best that they had produced
recently.
You can read about all the NORMAL things that have been shown at the SMAU in
every NORMAL magazine. HERE, you will see a complete list of all GROUPS that
were present there!

IBB
We met Raoul, E$G, Street Shaman, DHS, Piratronik. All these guys had a very
cool T-Shirt printed with their name and function, and with IBB logo in its
back. They released a demo called MANGAD, with a very simple code but wonderful
graphics and music (the veronese duo: Street Shaman + DHS), and an utility cal-
led NASP II (by Piratronik). This utility was very expected by all techno and
house freaks all around.

RAM JAM
This group was present with ACBS, a girl whose name we can't remember, and some
other members. They released a collection with all the old productions and an
intro called ASSHOLE with a cool sine-dot-scroller. But ACBS brought to the
SMAU a box full of copies of all their previous games and musicdisks, together
with the copies of the last productions. So he has given away lots of disks,
but he spread his stuff like hell. Their ASSHOLE intro is surely their best
production ever.

THE EVIL FORCES
This really amazing group was present with Mr.Bite, B.A.D and maybe some other
guys. They released maybe the best-looking intro, with a fucking cool parallax
effect and the usually cool house music. Nothing to say, they have style! So
look out for their soon coming magazine called TOILET PAPER, released in co-op
with RAM JAM.

DIVINA
We met Storm, Romano and their coder. They were supposed to release their mega-
demo but they hadn't finished it in time, so the coder started to show some
routines...really cool! Storm showed a picture from their new graphician...it
was GREAT! Look for that megademo, cause it seems to be so COOOOOOLLLLLLLL...

                                                         (next article please!)

(continues from previous article)

ZERO DEFECTS
Only Paranoid and Dr.Sam were present. They did the right thing cause they went
there only to talk and to have fun and not to show anyone that they're the
best. They released previously a message-box.

GHOSTLY SPREADERS
This group was present with almost all members. They released an amazing mega-
demo and a musicdisk. The megademo is quite cool, even if almost all routines
are not new. Anyway, now they are much better than in the previous years.

NIGHTFALL
Also this group released a megademo, surely one of the best things presented
this year. It looks really nice and also the music is good.

RES. 101
Ken and Bitboy were there only to make a walk around. They were rather tired of
the confusion of the Commodore stand, and in fact we met them at the Apple
stand!

CHRONOS
These guys need to be mentioned for the best wearings. Some jackets with the
CHRONOS logo and their codename, all with a very coloured graffiti-style. They
haven't released anything, since, as maybe you know, they're a BBS-group.

SIGMA, CENTURION, GRACE...
Also these local groups brought some productions. The intro by SIGMA looked
very nice, Centurion instead released a megademo.

THE COMMODORE "COPS"
They were the Commodore responsables for security. Real "guards". These fucking
guys kept on breaking the balls the whole day. They didn't want that people
copy demos, we don't know why, since demos are LEGAL! But it's not all: they
were very unfriendly and stole all copied disks they found. Maybe now they're
enjoying the stuff at their home...BASTARDS!

All in all, it has been better than the previous SMAU. More demos have been
presented, and there was a friendly atmosphere between all groups. So we hope
that next time it will be even better...see you next year!

Future scene? By Bacteria/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some years ago, a new generation of computer was born. These were the home
computers. And these computers were very cool, because when your work was
boring, you could start to play games... but the problem was that... the price
of these games was very high! So some guys decided to 'copy' these games, to
make a double. So later, the software companies discovered that some guys
were copying the games and they decided to create a protection...and the
other guys (the mad copiers, hehe) tried to 'crack' the protection. It was
hard... so they decided to write a sign in order to say 'I have cracked this
game'. First, this sign was only a text on the disk, later, it become a scroll,
a scroll with a logo ... and the intro was born! Some intros looked very nice,
so some groups decided to spread a 'big intro' on a disk only. And then the
demo was born. Some other guys decided to assemble a lot of these demos on a
disk... the megademo was born! And there were a lot of guys who wanted to crack
games and to make demos... Then some guys decided to spread some information
(news, articles,...) the disk mag was born! And the actual scene was born.

Mmmmhh... I don't know what is the computer of the first scene, but it seems
to be really old! 10 years? I don't know! But the last computer who has and owe
always a cool and active scene is the C64! Most of the Amiga guys came from
the C64 scene! There's also a Spectrum scene, an Amstrad scene, an Atari
scene, an IBM scene, an Archimedes scene and perhaps more. But you can perhaps
guess that all these computers are computers where you can play games! And
what's the future of the games... the consoles! The computers will become more
and more professional, like the Macintosh (which has NO scene...)

And... the home computers will die! So how to start a new scene with demos,
cracks, intros, groups... is the Amiga's scene perhaps the last scene? We can
maybe start a scene of the soon coming FM towns! Perhaps not! The future scenes
will change a lot because of the CD rom. But scenes are cool! So I ask the
question again, when Amiga will die...

WHAT WILL BE THE FUTURE SCENE?

Think about it!

Scene on TV By Bacteria/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The TV...millions and millions people are looking at the TV. If you want to
publish news, for example, you will be sure that your news will be very well
spread by the TV. The TV is also here for the publicity... Buy my production or
die!!!

But now, something special is coming on the TV. A lot of channels start to make
some emissions about computers. And now... they have found a new subject...the
computer scene! I have heard about a lot of emissions on the TV in a lot of
countries and these emissions, which only presented games, start now to present
some demos... they want to know MORE about the scene! So they present some
demos, and they tell the name of the group, the name of the coder, of the
graphician, the musician... that means all the persons who made the demo.

But they don't stop here. They want to speak about demo freak, they want to
understand more of the so called scene. They start to make some interview about
demo coders, or crackers, and so on! But they can't interview the guys of the
scene like a music star. The only way to interview someone is to go to the
copy partys and to find some guys to interview...

And as I have said before, the TV is the best wait to make a maximum of adver-
tising. So it's a good way to make a lot of publicity for himself and for the
group.

And of course, a lot of guys wanted to be interviewed in one of these TV
emissions just to spread the name.... So they are interviewed by a TV and they
are so happy of this... they say that they are members or leaders of great well
known groups, in order to say this message to the world 'I am the best of
all...' and they, for example, claim to be the leader of Vision Factory (Like
a guy from Germany at the maximum pleasure party)... Or they show to the TV a
'Live crack of a game' in order to show to the guys who are watching the TV
that they know how to crack a game...

And finally, they have a lot of problems with other groups, like the guy of
Admirals with Magnetic F. Germany, or like the group Storm...

So if you are one day interviewed by the TV at a copy party, try to be yourself
and don't try to show to everybody that you came from the best group and that
you are the best.... the guys who think that they are the best are just poor
guys who have a lot of superiority complexes!!!

Shitty viruses By Bacteria/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You save your source on your disk, and you reset your Amiga. When you want to
reload your work, the source is totally destroyed...
You are making a new number of your pack serie, you have finished to save all
the demos on the disk, and when you want to save the final thing, the menu...
your disk is unreadable... you have to restart all your work.
After 5 hours of hard work, you finished your nice Gfx. You try to save the
Gfx on the disk, when you read the message 'Read/Write error' your work is
again destroyed...
You finished to write all articles for your disk mag, when you discover a virus
on your disk...

Yes! These shitty situations are real. You have perhaps had one of these
problems! It's very boring to try to work with your Amiga when viruses are
killing all your work. I had some big problems with a lot of these shitty
viruses. But what to do? Virus killers are good, but when the virus destroyed
your work, what do you want to do with a Virus killer? When you destroyed one
virus, you have an other one on the disk. And so on!
Or, for example, you are in a party, making your demo, you think to be in time
for the demo competition when a virus destrois your work... bye bye, demo com-
petition! So... you can't kill the virus, because your work is destroyed! You
can always try to recode your demo... good luck, if you are very fast... But I
think that the only thing to kill the virus is to protect your work with a
special bootblock, or to put a virus killer in the startup sequence.

Okay! But the question is WHO! Who are behind these viruses? Some guys who want
to kill the scene? Kill the Amiga? Or they do it for fun? That's the real
question! But it's not a fun to work on the Amiga when viruses are always
destroying your work... Viruses creators are all fucking liars! To destroy the
work of the others! And they don't write a sign to know who they are!

Well. We are not here to send fuckings... But...

THE ONLY WAY TO KILL VIRUS IS TO KILL THE CREATORS !!!

About Music Part II By Filippetto/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some time ago (FC#5) I wrote an article about some music tips to be used with
Noisetracker. Due to the big success of that article, I decided to write a new
one, with some improvements. In fact, since that article I've not only changed
my style, but I have also recognized that there's something better of the tips
I wrote then. So let's start.

First of all to make a good music you need 3 things: 1) A good melody-tune,
composed by yourself - 2) Good samples with clear sound - 3) The best possible
way to express the tune you have in your mind.

1) THE TUNE
As you maybe know not all guys has the chance to create good tunes by himself.
This is not a mistery. Some guys can create really good melodies, some others
create noising shits. If you are one of these guys, you better don't compose
any other music in the future! If you instead use to have good ideas, here are
some tips. A big risk when composing with computers is to create a monotonous
tune, with 2-4 chords repeating all the times! So the first thing is to create
a various melody, with variations of chords, solo-parts, solo-parts following
chords, mixed chords and various drums fill-ins. Fill-ins are important cause
they give the impression of a live sound. As I've said, the tune must be
various. Some people take some famous tunes and try to transpose the singed
parts with an instrument like a synth or a flute. I've done this many times,
like lot of musicians, but I never have been satisfied cause obviously a simple
instrument like a synth will never reproduce the tones and the harmony of a
human voice. So it's much better to compose or transpose an instrumental song
than a singed one, believe me. As you know, Noisetracker has 4 channels. The
best way to make a tune is to use 1 channel for drums, 1 channel for bass, 1
channel for chords and the remaining channel for solo-parts, strings,
additional chords or additional percussions. The choice of the samples is
important. If the tune is good you can use up to $1f samples, but of course the
choice of the length should depend by the use you will do of the tune. Anyway
always try to remain in a maximum length of 100-150K. It's obvious that length
depends by the quality and the size of the instruments (see point 2).
Once that you've written your song you know that it will restart from the
beginning when it comes to the maximum pattern position, so try to make an
end which can in some way be harmonically joint with the beginning or just
finish the song with a fill-in or a progressive fading effect. If you choose
these last things, you should make follow 1 pattern of silence before leaving
the tune restart. More tips: if you have two very similar patterns, variate
them by putting two different solo-parts, two different drum-parts or some
additional percussions or effects. Always try, in every part, to modulate the
volume so to make the sound as real as possible. In the solo or chord parts
it's always good to insert echoes or reverbs. Another good idea is to use the
vibrato in solo-parts and chord-parts: the result is always good. For more
details about these tricks see point 3.

                                                    (continues in next article)

(continues from previous article)

2) THE SAMPLES
Ripped Samples: some people rip samples from the best songs (I do this many
times cause I don't own a synthetizer, so I don't know where to get the sounds
to sample, and I don't feel like sampling lot of things every time I wanna
compose a tune, so I sample only few times). If you rip, never use all samples
of a song together: create an intruments-disk with the best instruments of the
best songs, with 10-20 different synths, possibly a large choice of chords of
the same instrument: maj, min, min7, maj7... then choose the instruments for
your song.
Own Samples: if you use your own samples (as I did sometime, for example for
the music of our second demo) use a GOOD sampler. I use a mono sampler but with
an high sampling rate. The sound must be as clear as possible! Of course, to
sample sounds, you must have a source to get the sounds from. Never use
cassettes (sound is too dirty). Better are CDs, expecially to sample effects.
But you can't sample all chords you want from a CD because usually in CDs
chords are played in a song, this means together with drums, bass and all
instruments, so you would sample all these things together, with the result of
a chord with other things inside. So the best way to sample instruments is to
sample them directly for a keyboard. For example, I used to sample some chords
from a Korg M1 of a friend of mine. There is an expensive but cool way to
sample an instrument. First sample a single note. Then a major chord. Then a
minor. Then a min7. Then a maj7...and so on. If you sample all sounds on
different octaves, at the end you will have about 20 samples of the same
instrument, but you will have the perfect reproduction of it in your song! This
takes a lot of memory and should of course be used for big musics.
There are many programs to sample: don't use Noisetracker because the sampling
rate is soooo low. Better use Audiomaster III or some new programs that can
also create mindblasting realtime effects (hi DHS!).
Adjusting Samples: it can happen that when you use the instrument with
Noisetracker the playing rate is too low, and the instrument sounds very low
also in the 3rd octave. In this case you have to adjust it with Protracker. The
sample-lab of this program is not bad, and by resampling some instruments to
higher notes you will have shorten them a lot too.
Another operation you can do to a sample can be setting the right Repeat and
Replen (Repeat Length) using directly Noisetracker. This can be applied also to
instruments that shouldn't have the repeat. For example you can take a bass and
set the repeat to just some bytes after the beginning of the instrument and
then set the repeat length to the remaining length. So you can have a bass that
sounds like a normal bass and then keeps the note continuosly. With this method
you can make an instrument as long as you want, and if you want to turn it off,
you just have to put a $c00 or a $a0f in its channel (this means that you turn
its volume to 0). Of course it's important to set repeat and repeat length to
correct values, so that the sound is continuos without imperfections and
interferences between the repeats.

                                                    (continues in next article)

(continues from previous article)

Chip Samples: another thing that you can do with Repeat and Replen is to create
chip sounds. These sounds are chip and cheap (ha-ha) cause they take just few
bytes. As you know the real chip sounds are generated by the Amiga chips as
waveforms and so you should use Future Composer or Sidmon to use them, but
there's a way to create some "fake" chip sounds also with Noisetracker. Just
take a part of an i nstrument (a synth, for example) and cut it so that it's
very short (not too short). Then set the repeat to a normal value (just some
bytes after the beginning) and the repeat length to a very small value ($2 or
$4). The sound is not very nice but cheap, you can modulate the volume with the
usual C and A commands. You can also make chords with the 037, 047...commands.
You can change the frequency by changing the repeat length. Anyway never use
these sounds in big songs cause they sound very bad together with "normal"
instruments. The best thing in a chip-song is to use 100% chip-samples except
the drumkit that should use normal bassdrum, snare and hi-hat.
Drum Samples: avoid to sample entire rhythms! It's very expensive in memory and
those sampled rhythms are really boring cause they don't change during the
whole songs. Much better are normal drums with fill-ins! Sample a rhythm only
if you want to compose an acid-house-techno-disco song, cause all those song
use really sampled rhythms.

3) "TECHNICAL" TIPS
Volume modulations: there are 2 ways. The C command, as you know, sets the
volume to a value between 0 and 40. The A command is the "volume slide", this
means that it slides volume up/down. For example A01 slides down of 1, A10
slides up of 1. Until here, alles klar. Now, there are some particular uses. If
you want to have a very sharp sound use the A0F command. Try some A0Fs in
sequence and you'll hear a very rhythmed sound! For the accents you can set
different values to every A command. For example, try A0F A0F A01 A0F A0F
A01... some times and you'll have a very used accent for 4/4 rhythms. This
commands works of course with all instruments but sounds great with synths and
strings. Try it! The C command should instead be used to modulate volume in
case of quick volume changes. It's good for drums' rolling. Put 3 consecutive
notes with a snaredrum with these respective commands: C10 C20 C30. The rolling
will be much smoother than with 3 notes without any volume command. The C
command should be used right to smoothen some consecutive notes.
Vibrato: now it's one of the most used effects. Usually it's obtained with some
400s in sequence or with alternative 401 410 401 410... To set a larger depth
just use 420 402 and so on. Combinations like 420 402 410 401 400 400 are
pretty nice. Warning: don't exaggerate cause with very high depths there's the
risk to false the melody. Use it in solo parts but also with chords (with some
synths sounds really great). Warning (2): if you convert a song from Protracker
to Noisetracker or from Noisetracker to Protracker take care, because the
vibrato sounds are a bit different (Noisetracker seem to have a major depth's
step).
Note slide: this effect slides current sound up (105, for example, slides 5
notes up) or down (205 to slide down of 5 notes). I wrote 5 notes but it's not
true, because the step of this command is really short, so for example to slide
down of 1 tone you have to use higher values. Use this effect in solo-parts.

Dreams By Manta
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr Bridge is a school counselor. He is assigned to work in a special country.
His job is to go from school to school and work with the students at each.
He is an open minded guy. He looks like welcoming, always ready to listen to
others.
This morning, Mr Bridge is really late. He doesn't feel well at breakfast and
doesn't know if he is able to go to work. After breakfast he feels a little
better and thinks that his work today will be OK.
As he drives down the street he notices a boy, sitting on the curb.
- This boy seems to be about to cry, he thinks.
- He looks like very unhappy.
Bridge pulls over the curb and backs the car to where the teenager is sitting.
He knew that young people are normally said not to go into the car of an
unknown person. He knew that he wouldn't normally do what he was doing now.
- Do you want a ride ?, he asks.
The boy accepts. He obviously needs to talk to someone. He is not a child
anymore, but not quite an adult, notices the driver.
- You don't look very happy, this morning.
- I just got suspended from school, the boys replies!
- Why did you get suspended ?, the conselor asks.
- Well I had an assignement in class. The teacher asked us to write a paper on
a love relationship we have with someone. So I wrote about my parents, he
  answers.

I'm sure, if you had to write the same paper you wouldn't write about your
parents, but about your girl friend. But this student was experiencing a
particular hard situation. His parents died four years ago in a car crash.
They had raised their child with the ideas that dreams are as real as our life
down here. When they died, the teenager was sent to an orphenage where the
atmosphere was very cold and disciplined. He always had kept a tight bound with
his parents through the dream state. That's why he hadn't written a love
relationship with his girl friend, but with his parents.

But the teacher made fun of him. He claimed that this story about keeping a
link with dead people wasn't true. The boy couldn't have any more
relationships with his parents since they were dead.
- Persisting in his lie would prove that the boy hadn't adjusted to the death
of his parents and needed some psychiatric support, thought the teacher.
As the student wouldn't recognize he had written an untrue story he was been
suspended.

As it was said first, Mr Bridge was a school counceler. After hearing the
boy's story he went to the principal who was known to him. He told him that
the boy wasn't lying. It was only a matter of freedom! He added that if we
allow others to be free, to have their own ideas, we guarantee our own freedom,
too. The student has been allowed to go back to his class.

A perfect lamer By Helioth/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, in order to begin this article I am going to introduce you to this pure
shit ascii text.
If you don't like reading stupid imaginary text, don't read this!
If you don't have a lot of spare time to waste, don't read this stupidity!
I wrote this text because I had nothing else to do (Incredible, no?) and I
wanted to be delirious and have some fun! It would have been nice if I had
been able to find a perfect lamer but those little birds are very rare. So I
had to imagine by myself the reaction of such a lamer if I interviewed him...
Don't complain if you think after reading this shit that such a kind of
" articles " has nothing to do on the contents of a "respectable magazine ".
I warned you...

Well, here I am going to INTERVIEW you! First, please introduce yourself.

- Ah yeah! I am Mr.X of the great crew: X-FORCE. I am the leader of this
powerful group. I have a lot of elite contacts and friends among them !

That's great but I want to know more about you, for example how did you come on
the Amiga scene?

- Ah, that's a great story! Ok, one year ago, a school friend of mine bought
an Atari. I was full of admiration when I saw the capacities of this shit. I
wanted to buy one (Ha! Ha! Ha! How stupid I was!). But a month later
another guy in my school bought a great Amiga! At once I bought the Amiga and
fucked the Atari! Yeah! I asked my mum if she could offer me the Amiga for
Christmas and she offered it! Now, everytime that the Atari freak says the
word "Atari", I slap him! Great, no?

Yes, that's great... And how did you build X-FORCE?

- Aha! I asked my school friends who had an Amiga to enter in X-FORCE. Then
I asked two other friends in possession of a PC (Ha! Ha! A PC!) to build up
a PC division of X-FORCE. But we are better than the guyz on PC, of course!

Mmmm, did you ever start a war with a group?

- Yes, three guyz of the school formed a new group and I declared the war! Of
course we won and now those three guyz are in X-FORCE, no more rivality!

What are the activities of X-FORCE?

- Yeah! We are very active now! We are putting our intros on the games we
receive and then we spread'em. You know, I am very good in coding
startup-sequences!

                                                 (continues in next article!!!)

(continues from previous article)

Great... Tell me an exemple of your coding level!

- Ha! Ha! This is secret! But I'll tell you a very simple exemple of my
coding... just check this out:
echo "X-FORCE cracked XXXXX for your pleasure..."
echo "We are the best, fuck the rest !"
loadscreen X-Force.Logo

Great, no ? But I can code more complex startup-sequences! I also can code
some other nice demos: I decrunch the demo of a lame group with PowerPacker
and then I change the scrolling with the Cygnus Editor! Not bad, eh?

I see... You seem to be very good... But wich function(s) do you practise in
X-FORCE?

- I'm a graphist, musician, coder, spreader, swapper, sysop (Call our boards,
up to 1200 bps!), cracker...

Woah! You're very active as I see. Well, could you tell me how you're
spending your spare time?

- I'm playing Amiga 500 games.

What kind of games?

- Only pure action (Yeah, that's cool!) and especially Kick Off II.

What are you thinking about school?

- Fuck school, Amiga is the best!

Great rule...and are you planing to continue your studies?

- Yes, perhaps, I must think about it, thanks... But I am going to be a great
game-programmer, that's my future profession!

What are you thinking about girls?

- Ha! Ha! Ha! Let me laugh! I'm slaping'em all!

                                                   (continues in next article)

(continues from previous article)

Euh... and how old are you ?

- 10 years old.

Aha, I understand now... euh... what do you think about lamers? Did you
ever have a problem with one of them?

- I hate lamers... there are so many lamers in the whole scene!
Yes, we had a problem with a lamer, he was in X-FORCE (At least he was shooted
out of our team, we don't have any more lamers in our elite team, yeah!).
He said he was a coder, let me laugh! He used a fucking slow and complex shit
to code, an assembler! Ha! Ha!Ha! The best language is the Cygnus Editor but
he wasn't able to code a good startup-sequence, he only had a "sources disk",
how stupid! At our meeting we wanted to kick him out of X-FORCE, we first
destroyed his shitty "sources disk" and after that we brushed him away from
our meeting place! Now we are ONLY PURE ELITE!

Ah... you said you have a modem, how can you earn enough money to pay the
phone bill ?

- I haven't anything to pay, my parents pay all! But I earn some money with
my modem. I am going to tell you my ingenious trick... I load the news from a
board and then I crack the stuff (Demo/Game) by putting a nice
startup-sequence, after that I sell the stuff! So I have enough money to buy
new disks (I need a lot of them, because I collect as many games as I am able,
at present about 500 games!).

Hmmm... Do you have some last words?

Yes of course, to contact me, look at my address in the adverts, but:

*** LAMERS WILL NOT BE ANSWERED, ONLY ELITE. ***

Let's find out the lamer... By Helioth/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, in order to write this article I am going to examine the subjects from
two different points of view. I want to write this article because seeing all
the shit we are doing with this peaceful Amiga is getting on my nerves.
So, let's find out the lamer...

Let me present you a 17 year old boy. He likes very much his Amiga, has a
modem and a lot of hardware, all the news, and a lot of elite contacts, he is
in a big group as swapper and finally he is wellknown, respected and moderately
friendly. After a school day he's going home and checking the new stuff he
received, but... there is again a shitty sending from his lamest contact!
- Aaaargh! Old stuff but friendly letter! Another lamer who wants to have
the priviledge to greet an elite guy... This time I'll do something against
this lamer. I am going to send him a letter and write that he is a fucking
great asshole, and that I don't want to be longer in contact with such a lamer!
After that he went on computing all the Saturday night...

And now here's the point of view of the guy who got insulted...

This is a 17 year old boy, too. After school he spends some time with some of
his friends in the city. When he goes home he does some homeworks and after
that opens a letter from a guy of a wellknown group. This guy just insulted
him and said that he wanted to stop the contact.
- Mmmm... It's strange that he attaches such a great importance to the fact
that I didn't send him the very latest stuff...
After that he plays a little game to relax himself, turns off his power supply
and writes a nice letter for fun to one of his contacts. One hour later he
goes in the city to meet some friends of his to lead a rollicking live...

Well, did you find out the lamer? Yes, of course, the REAL LAMER is the
"elite guy"... He's computing as much as possible, swapping the hottest news
and doing nothing else but computing... In fact it's a poor guy who think that
the Amiga is more than a simple hobby, his real life is computing. The second
guy is a cool guy who knows what a hobby is. Its real meaning is an occupation
to prevent you from boredom. So don't waste your life in front of a stupid
machine, have some fun with it, but don't exaggerate... So, before calling
somebody a shit, try first to find out who is the lamer...

What's... By Helioth/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's Freedom Crack?
Some fucking magnetic informations on a floppy disk.

What's a lamer?
A stupid notion to call undesirable people.

What's an elite guy?
Sometimes a lamer.

What's a computer group?
Some people accepting to work together.

What's a computer scene?
Like our civilisation because all humans are identical, every group and person
wants to become better, the best, the only one...

What's a computer?
Some plastic, metal and chemical shit.

What's school?
The greatest illusion.

What's a job?
The due to be integrated in our society.

What's a language?
A proof of our isolation.

What's a religion?
A hope for some persons.

What's a country?
An isle.

What's Earth?
A prison we built around us.

What's space?
The obstacle saving other living beeings from being contaminated by our
stupidity.

What's life?
A chance to have some fun...

Atari Lynx Review Bitjoker/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christmas is near! (?)
And probably the most of you are t hinking about some presents to ask to your
parents...well, Freedom Crack is here to purpose to buy a portable console...
but what ?!? The Atary Lynx or the Nintendo GameBoy?
In this number of F.C. I want to talk you about the Atari Lynx that I have
bought one month ago.

==== ATARI LYNX HARDWARE CONFIGURATION =====

The Lynx has a 6502 Custom Processor that works at 4 MHz (4 times the work
speed of the great Commodore 64), it has 64K bytes RAM and 4096 colors palette.
The dimension in cms are 11*26*3 (3" in diagonal) and the weight is 0.5 Kg.
The Max. screen resolution is of 160*102 pixels.
Over that the Atari Lynx has 4 audio chanels with digitized samples and sounds.
The hardware configuration is very simple, over the 64Kb RAM, other two custom
chips works together: the first is ASIC ("Suzie") that works to the graphic
and to the animation with special realtime zoom effects, the second chip is
ASIC ("Mickey") that is the microprocessor and the internal ROM.

================= WHAT GOOD AND WHAT LESS =====================

Good qualities of the Lynx are the speed and the effects, over the possibility
to flip the screen of 180 degrees and listen with the headphones the sound.
When in particular moments you need to stop the game without turn off the
console, you can press the pause option, you can modify the brightness and the
volume with potenziometers. Good sensibility of joypad and fire buttons.
Possibility to play from 1 to 8 player with a partcular cable called COMLYNX.
One game "California games" is included in the console.

Less qualities are the shortest life of the c.c. alimentation (6 batteries)
near 3/4 hours with continuos play. The screen is not very functional, with the
sun you don't see it and in the dark your eyes will be tired early. The speaker
is terrible, only one on the right of the console near the fire buttons. In any
new position you are you must always regulate the brightness and the colors.
There are not a lot of games at the moment for the Lynx, and the game present
are not cheap (here in Italy the cost is 39000-59000, $33 - $53).
The console costs 210-240000 (180 - 200 U.S.dollars), a C=64 costs 170$ US.

Personal opinion: the business promise better productions for the future, like
the Pc Engine (portable console), but the cost is high, I think that you could
ask to recieve for christmas a good console like the SEGA MEGADRIVE or the
Nintendo SUPERFAMICOM, with cool quality games. For the moment phone to your
girlfriend and go together with her to the pub to have a pizza and good blond
beer, and try to do with her something better than play to Super Mario Bros. or
Sonic the HedgeHog.

Devils - No Reality
This is a 1 disk demo. Really nice to look at! This is surely the best product
from Devils ever made. The demo starts with the same fucking vectors with
patterned surfaces, then the title is showed and a writer appears with some
multi coloured checkers (one of the best routines of the demo). Again some
glenz, lightsourced, mapped vectors, then some 1 pixel RGB plasma, then again
vectors with plasma. The only new routine is the HAM keftales, but it looks
like a copper effect coz the horizontal resolution is only 4 pixel (?). The
demo goes on with other vectors and some 3D fractal landscapes (maybe the best
routine of the demo - really nice!). Finally at the end we find some Julia and
Mandelbrot examples (really nice colors) and another 8 colors tree-drawing
routine with the greetings scrolling overlap.
What can we say: the new things are few but the demo is really well coded,
bugfree, the 2 musics are quite cool and the final product can be put in the
list of the high-quality demos.
Coding: 8 Graphics: 7 Ideas: 7
Music: 7.5 Design: 7.5 TOTAL: 7.4

Devils - Labyrinth
This is the 2nd 1 disk demo we've got from Devils. This demo starts with a very
nice grey-scaled picture, then the credits appear (with the usual filled vector
zoom-effects). Then there's the usual writer that introduces the various
routines. The writer takes 200 pixels on the screen, and the remaining 50-60
pixels in the lower PAL side are occupied by some animated sprites (nice bird's
animation). The design of this part is rather ugly, because no rasters are used
and the global thing is not very nice to look at, even if the font-turning
effect is rather impressive. This part, which appears after each routine, is
the thing that ruins the demo, because the other parts seem to be really cool.
We find the biggest glenz-vectors ever seen, some really nice lightsourced
vectors, a funny 3-screens vectorbobs effect with Star Trek, some good pictures
and finally some fractals calculations like 3D Mandelbrot (not so good), Julia,
the usual trees (...) The final parts shows 3 different parallax-checkers in
overscan and all above the greetings, messages, etc. with a nice 8 colors 8x8
font. The last part has a really good design! Congratulations Jinx!
In this demo we can't find really new things, but some improvements and someti-
mes some really nice things. Two words about the musics (2 in this demo, too):
they are nothing really special but they are rather various, so they are never
annoying; the solo parts are exaggerated.
Coding: 7.5 Graphics: 8 Ideas: 7
Music: 7 Design: 7 TOTAL: 7.3

Beer Mixes By Filippetto/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you live for boozing as we do? Do you have an iron stomach? Do you feel like
trying new incredible tastes with your favourite beer? Read here!

Who hasn't yet tried a beer mix? The beer mix is one of the best things you can
do with beer (together with drinking it and spilling it on girls' tits). I make
beer mixes when I go out with my friends, I want to take a beer but I'm tired
of the same old taste. Now you can ask me:

- But couldn't you drink something else? What is a beer mix?
Simple question, simple answer: take a glass, fill 3/4 with your favourite beer
(better if it is a normal or a double maltus beer, so no red beers or things
like that (green, blue (?!) beers)), then fill the remaining 1/4 with your
favourite drink (coke, lemonsoda...) Don't exceed with the drink you add,
otherwise you risk to cover the beer's taste too much. If you make an
equilibrate mix, you can taste your favourite drink with some alcohol and the
classic bitter taste of the beer. Of course everything in one drink.

And now, some examples...

Beer and Lemonsoda
Also called "redled", this is maybe the best mix you can do with beer. The best
thing of this mix is the combination of the sweet-bitter Lemonsoda's taste with
the beer's taste.

Beer and mint
Not very known, this mix is one of my favourites. Why? I don't know! I just
drink it! There are 2 options: one with mint's syrup, and one with alcoholic
mint. Also try with Branca Menta.

Beer and Cola
Puah! I don't like it, but some people manages to drink it. It's not terrible,
but, in my opinion, nothing special.

Beer and Ouzo
To make this mix you need a bottle of Ouzo, try the famous 12 or Metaxa. If
you want an explosive mix try the Sans Rivals (the most alcoholic Ouzo in the
world). This drink is ultra-bitter so I recommend all you people who hate
bitter drinks to avoid it!

Beer and Martini
Some people use to drink it. It's really a waste to put some Martini into a
beer, anyway if you wanna try, try.

The best thing is to find out the best mix by himself (as I did). Take some
beer, and mix it with the first drink you find around. Of course we are not
responsable of eventual collapses or guts problems.

Diskmag Corner
--------------
Here we are again with the Diskmag corner of this issue. Actually the scene of
the diskmags seems to be quite alive, because we've seen lots of old and new
diskmags recently, and all with a recent issue and something like improved
coding or things like that. The only mag that didn't improve anything is
Freedom Crack! (hehe) What a shame! Anyway here are some comments (all critics
are made to help the others to do a better job, of course, and not, as
someone said, just to criticize).

ZINE #10
Hi Chester/BRS! Your magazine is on the road since 10 issues and it's still at
the top! Not bad! Also this issue of Zine is very interesting. We had seen bet-
ter issues, but this is not bad. The interviews are back and they are well done
with a lot of interesting and actual questions. The usual articles, the charts
and the reviews are quite cool and there's a new subject: the occultism. This
is yet the second issue in which Zine writes about occultism, stories and
experiences. It's surely an interesting subject, a little strange for a disk-
magazine, but it's something different.

MC DISK #1
This new diskmagazine will surely climb the scene quickly. The code is really
impressive, surely the best ever. There are a LOT of different text and font
display modes, something really new like search option and the realtime charts
(great idea you had). Of course the first issue is not the best about articles,
because almost all articles were made by COMA members, so you don't have the
impression of a popular magazine, but the 2nd issue will surely be better. The
main subjects which can take the interest of an average freak are all there:
interviews, news, coders and musicians sections, films and music reviews plus
much more. What can we say? With this magazine, Freedom Crack will descend at
least 1 position in the Eurocharts, but it's worth.

I.C.E.
Hi Cyber Pirate and Wild Thing/Cytax! I.C.E. has reached since its first
release a high standard, even if sometimes people seem to forget it. We think
that the best thing of this magazine is still the coding, but of course also
the articles are good. Keep up the good work!

FRAUD #5
This australian one-file magazine seem to be the only real one file magazine
together with Freedom Crack. Since issue 4 it started to climb the charts and
the people's opinion. There are no doubts that the articles are good, anyway
the design is too simple, but we could justify this fact with a lack of memory.
All in all a medium mag, the good things is that it's released very often and
so it's always actual.

CHIT-CHAT #1
Published by Mirage, this is a "service" magazine, based on messages from/to
the guyz of the scene. It's just the first issue, but the whole thing seems to
be really nice (the code is OK!). We wish the best of luck to this magazine!

Have you read a book whose name is "King Solomon's Mines" from H.Rider Haggard?
You know certainly this book. So I will tell you about another book from the
same writer. H.Rider Haggard has written "She" in 1887. The story takes place
in the beginning of the nineteen century. 200 years before Christ, She killed
the man she loves because of jealousy. And during 2000 years, She is waiting
for him (for his reincarnation) and after their meeting, She can endly accept
to die. In the most unknown part of Africa (near Lybia) in a very ancient and
forgotten kingdom (ROR) we are at the passionate reunion of two lovers whose
time had separated. To be really together, they will have to stand the test of
Time, of life and of Death. She embodies the Beauty, but a supernatural beauty,
a Beauty who comes from the Devil. That's why She has to wear a veil to hide
her Beauty. All the men fall in love with She and loose their minds and become
mad. She has a thourough knowledge of the Nature. She's got the powers of the
Nature. She can kill the people with her mind. Leo Vincey is the man she loves
(or Rallikrates in the antiquity) and is a very beautiful man. Holly is the
intelligent man. He's very ugly but he's the best friend of Leo and She. He's
the 2nd man she loves (in Friendship).
But in reality, who is She? You can learn everything about She in the 2 other
adventures in the fantastic:

           - Ayesha, the return of She
           - Wisdom's Daughter

A little story about... By Cioz/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1, 2, 3, lose your time and blow your mind! This is CIOZ of VEGA writing
another story. This time the main actor is a guy from North Africa and his code-
name is RAUL/IBB! (ogni riferimento a fatti o persone reali e' puramente casua-
le!)
As I've said, his name is Raoul Casadei and he dreams he's the best coder in
the world every night. But during a stormin night the wizard of the lamers
appears to him..(sfx: PUFF!)
"Raul, you will be n.1 coder in the globe, but remember, only for one day until
12 p.m.!" (sfx: RIPUFF!)
So the poor guy goes to SMAU and the people who watched his demo gets
completely allucinated... (sfx: AARGH!, MIIIINNCHIA!, DA FOGO!)
Later the big lamer subscribed a contract with Psygnosis......
But for Raul this is not a lucky day: infact at 12 pm sharp his magic power is
OVER. (sfx: STRAPUFF!) So the hero of the lamers went fast home.
Then finally at Raul-house...(RADIO ROSALIA NETWORK): "We are desperately
seeking for the wonderful coder who made the SMAU megademo!! If you are liste-
nig come here immediately!"
So the lamer goes back to SMAU...
RAUL: "Yes, I'm the mysterious coder! Infact I've got the original demo disk!"
PSYG: "Mmmhhh... Let's try first!"
But without the magic power, his disk returns to contain the original crapdemo
by IBB: It's so unbearable to watch and listen to that all chips get broken and
it adds the high tension....
The screen reveals the deep truth: it was the new crapdemo by RAUL/IBB....
After clicking left mouse..(sfx : CLICK!)
CCCRRRRUUUUNNNCHHHH! (sfx : Maremm' u' scrufh!)
The terminal exploded in face of the Psygnosys boss and fired all people who
were watching the demo. (sfx: AIUTO, AIUTO, AL LUPO!)
In just 1 minute all the computers of the SMAU exploded like bombs causing many
innocent victims. (sfx: Minchia, peggio 'o Chernobyl u fattu!)
The poor LAMER RAUL/IBB had to wash the smau toilets for about 10 years to pay
all disasters....(sfx: FLIP, FLOP, SPLUSH, SPLASH!)

MORALE: Raoul! We don't wanna start a war with you, but if you say that Filip-
petto is a lamer just because he swaps sources (remember SWAPPING doesn't mean
RIPPING) it means that you have something against Filippetto, therefor we feel
free to have something against you (we asked E$G and he said "OK, DO WHAT YOU
WANT!" HUAH HUAH!) By the way: don't try to tell that TEO's copper-fractal
routine is not original, 'cause you know that TEO codes all his routines from
ZERO and if you don't believe it we will send you the complete source of the
POP-COP demo so you can check it all and learn some REAL Assembler...we could
add some comments in the source so that all loosers like you can understand the
most difficult points...

This story will be available also as a comic in the next issue...

Demo Reviews By Filippetto and Bitjoker/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all we remind you to send your demos to:

F.Rizzi or C.Noventa
V.Vescovado 39 V.Vannozzo 17
35141 Padova 35131 Padova
Italy Italy

Another thing: if we will receive a high number of demos, we will surely start
a demo competition. But we have to receive at least 10 demos...

Gambling House (Shadows) - This is a multipart demo from a group that is still
not so famous, even if it can be considered a high-level group. All in all the
most impressive things are the coding and the graphics. The coder, named
Kilroy, used some routines that aren't new but well-coded, so the final impres-
sion of this demo is not bad.
Coding: 6.75 Music: 6.50 Design: 7
Graphics: 6.75 Ideas: 5.75 TOTAL: 6.55

The Ultimate Sine (Dutch Dream) - This short demo from a dutch team consist in
a med-res sinus scroller. The routine is presented as a very new thing, but we
already saw med-res sinus scrollers in lot of previous demos (Seven sins by
Scoopex, FICA Powerpacks menu...). There is also an animated sprite flying
over the screen and some text changing in the lower part of the screen. Two
bad things: the sinuswave is not moving and the text-changing routine has a
bug (sometime the screen flashes). So we face that Incog, the coder, has been
cool to code a 620x200 sinus routine, but with only a routine (and not so new)
there's no reason to release a demo.
Coding: 5.50 Music: 5.75 Design: 5
Graphics: 5 Ideas: 5 TOTAL: 5.25

Lemming's Destruction (Magic) - This 2 parts demo from the germans Magic has
a very old-styled look, and the thing that surely ruins the global impression
is the bad gfx. In the first part we find an ugly logo with an old wave-effect,
a simple 1-row writer, some copper effects, a scroll with a colorcycle effect
and the best effect: a Lemming escaping from a running tank. By pressing the
button we go to the second part, again with a logo (better but not so good) and
many scrolls (all with colorcycle effect). The music is an "honest" tune, this
means that it's not so bad. We have to consider that this is the first demo
from Magic. Improvements are needed, but we are sure that Magic will grow up.
Coding: 5 Music: 6 Design: 6
Graphics: 4.5 Ideas: 6.5 TOTAL: 5.6

                                                    (continues in next article)

The 'Aero' History Review! By The Master/Aero
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there readers, I am 'The Master' & I am the one who started Aero.. It all
started about Juli 1990 when my old group was about to fall apart. We were only
3 members left in the group & only 1 active, and that was me!!! I have just
started coding & I thought that there was no need for a group this low!!! Why
should I code in a group which was low & would stay low 4ever????? Anyway, I
talked to one of my best friends 'Iceman' & he said yes to try to start a new
group.. Then I called the 2 members in my old g roup and told them that they
would die soon, coz' I would leave the group today!!! They didn't give it a
second thought so now 'AERO' was born.. I started to phone some of my other
friends to see if they were interested in joining!!! I called 'Cyborg' & he
was a member of a 2 man group with only 1 active member!!!! He said yes & so
did 'VAG'.... Well now we were 4 Members & about this time the 'Stereo
Evolution I' was finished... It was our first release & our first music disk!!!
Well about a week later I talked to 'Gargoyle' & found out that he was
beginning to code on the Amiga!! Now we had - grown to five members!!! But
Iceman had some troubles so he left the group!! ( Only to return later ).. We
started to code on a Mega-Demo & in the meentime we got 3 new members 'Mick',
'Dosh' & 'Demon'!!!!! We have reached November 1990 and we had released the
following stuff: some utilities, Demopacks, 3 demo's, 2 Music disk's called
Stereo Evolution I & II........ Well we have now reached January 1991 where we
held our - Computer Conference... Well it wasn't that big a Succes but we got a
new member - called 'Slide'.... He was tired of being in a group who did not
make any releases & since we relased a demo or pack - approx every week, we
where the answer to his prayers. (ha-ha). Time went by & about 2 Week's after
our conf. we released our first Mega-Demo.. It wasn't that good, but it was
quite fair!!! We released about 3 more demopacks & some utilities.... And then
we got 2 new members called: 'Cobra' & 'Phalcon'...... Yo', we are getting
bigger... Well people started to write a lot of letters to us about joining
us!!!! Well we got a lot of new contacts & I hope we will get more after this
article.... Anyway, we got a new musician for about 2 Weeks and then he dropped
out & so did 'Demon'......... We have now almost reached the end... Gargoyle &
I (The Master) has now got some XP in coding... Well, after we released our
'old' demo 'EdderCopper', Iceman told me that he knew a coder who wanted to
join us (Bionic) !!! And so he did & so did 'Iceman'......... And a few days
ago - Phalcon called me & said that 'The Sob' would like to join us again & so
he did!!!!! So we are a quite cool group now!!! This group is not based on how
big we are??? It's based on friendship..... So before I end this text I would
like to say to 'Amaze', sorry dudes, but we are not interested in joining you.
We like it here in our group... These following persons are members of Aero:
The Master - Coding, Graphics, Music, Swapping, Compacting.
Gargoyle - Coding, Graphics, Swapping, Vhs. Iceman - Coding.
Bionic - Coding. Cyborg - Compacting, Swapping.
Phalcon - Graphics, Swapping. Gambler - Swapping.
Slide - Graphics, Music, Swapping. Cobra - Swapping.
Mick - Swapping, Vhs. The Sob - Music.
Vag - Graphics, Music. Dosh - Graphics, Music.
Well I guess that's it, so count us in next time you write about the Danish
Scene, coz' I got 13 Reasons why you should....

The new revolutionary Amiga By Helioth/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some days ago, a friend of mine told me something about a revolutionary Amiga.
And of course I wanted to find out something more. And here is the result.

So enjoy, dream and hope !

The first person who divulged this was a Commodore retailer to the owner of a
computer shop in Bern. The information spreaded by itself as a rumour. The name
of the new Amiga is unknown to me. The only informations I got are...
The copper and blitter processors are both gathered onto only one processor.
It begets a great gain of calculation's time and a gain of money. The
microprocessor is a 68020 one, the calculation is three times faster than a
normal Amiga 500, but such a microprocessor is very expensive... About the
sound, I just got this information : No more four channels music, but eight
channels. The Amiga 500 has eight too, but it takes a lot of memory to use
them. On the new Amiga it'll be normal to use eight channels everywhere. Just
imagine the result with the games, the music and the sound effects playing
together without problem of lack of channels. About the graphics : the
resolution is very high, I don't know the exact number but I can say something
like 1000 over ????. The colours on the Amiga 500 are normaly of 32 colours on
a palette of 4096 colours. On the new Amiga it'll be 4096 colours on a palette
of 16 millions colours ! And of course, there are so many Amigas 500 all over
the world that Commodore had to do its new computer compatible with the
Amiga 500... But I don't now the limits of such a compatibility if you
consider the differences between those two machines... For me it's a great
question mark. About the price, they must make something cheaper than the
Amiga 3000, if not this new machine will not be bought. I've heard it'll cost
about 2000 swiss francs ( 1500 $ ) with a monitor, but the microprocessor costs
already 1000 sfr by itself...

If I'm writing a true story, it'll be fantastic because I always was thinking
about how many years will the Amiga scene still be going on. I always was
thinking that we were slowly but surely reaching a saturation level. But with
a new computer fully compatible with the old ones we can continue the same
scene, it can give us an extra time of about 5 years... This Amiga will be
presented for the first time at the shows before the beginning of the new year.

Mhhh... but remember, it's just a rumour, perhaps this new Amiga just doesn't
exist !

About Amiga Graphics By Helioth/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First let's make an introduction to this article... It's very difficult to be a
good and wellknown graphician because all freaks can do graphics if they aren't
abnormal at all... A freak who buys an Amiga and who has no experience with the
scene will try to enter into a debutant group ( You perhaps noticed that I
didn't use the word lame. The reason is that NOBODY IS LAME ! But that's
another chapter... ). Spreading is too normal for him, he wants to be something
"more". Of course he'll be another shitty graphician, but enough of that ! The
real graphicians are people who are able to paint things BY HAND, a graphician
is somebody who has a talent in drawing. Think about it... Well, let's start
with my article...
Clack ! Your DP disk is insered into your drive for the first time... Well, how
does this program look... Hmmm, you are in front of your Deluxe Paint screen
and you naivelly think " Yeah, that seems to be damn easy ! ". Yes, you are
right, it's very easy, but first you'll have to LEARN how to draw on a computer
because it's really different. After some hours you're still checking the
capacities of this marvelous program, and later your first ideas are being
pixelled... The first ugly logos appear, behind them you see the reflection of
your smile... You're so proud of your masterpieces that you're looking for
sending them to your favorite group. After some weeks you don't know why you
don't get any answer... That's not enough to be very good in hand drawing as I
said it before, drawing on a computer is different, some good effects are
possible and there is a lot of restrictions... Every graphician has his method
and it brings you nothing more if you pick up the method of another graphician,
it's a thing you must find yourself. The most important thing before pixelling
some burning shit is the ORIGINALITY, all graphicians ( I hope... ) know
this... A logo looks much better if you use CURVES. To fill the logo, you must
find again an original idea ( But no diagonal pseudo-coppers, urgh ! ) and
then report it into the logo form, but then your logo will probabely look like
a bad one dimensional logo. To do a good 3 dimensional impression just work
together with the shadow. You must feel it yourself to get a good result. To
render your logo more attractive here is a suggestion that cannot be applied in
all cases, adapt yourself to your logo : just draw a background in the same
theme as the logo. It's very important to SMOOTH the curves of your logo to do
invisible pixels. Of course I don't allude to the "smooth" option of Deluxe
Paint, it doesn't give the same result. Make an anti-climax from the logo's
border to the background colour, use one or two colours if necessary. With this
method the pixels must disappear to let an impression of curve. Of course this
smooth method is generally used to fill up the logo. Try to use as few colours
as possible ( It takes a lot of memory, for those who don't know... ), try to
use complementary colours ( You should feel it yourself. )...
All the things I described in this article are logic but there are still too
many pseudo-graphicians over there who don't know that they need some
originality.
To do logos three things must be kept in mind, they are :
- ORIGINALITY
- CURVES
- NO VISIBLE PIXELS
Well, that was my first speech, you'll certainly see more articles or
interviews from me in the next Freedom Crack but don't be frightened ! They'll
be better ( Hope so... )! SUPPORT FREEDOM CRACK, GUYS!

JOKES By Icebreaker/Parasites
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RIGHT BEFORE I GO ON TELLING THIS GREAT JOKE?? I FIRST WANT TO SAY THAT IF YOU
JUST READ THE TOP OF THIS TEXT AND SAID "ICEBREAKER OF THE PARASITES WHO THE
FUCK ARE THEY??" WELL IT A NEW GROUP SO NOTHING MORE SAID.

THE JOKE IS:
ONE DAY THERE WAS THIS PRO. STANDING ON THE SIDEWALK SHE WAS A SLIM LONG LEGED
BLOND WITH TITS THE SIZE OF MELLONS A SMALL (TIGHT FITTING) MINI TOP (AND
BOTTOM) AND ITS UP TO YOUR OWN IMAGINATION TO THINK OF WHAT SHE WAS WEARING
UNDER ALL THAT (OR NOT WEARING), WELL SHE WAS STANDING THERE LOOKING VERY SEXY
SO TO GET A GUY WHO WAS WILLING TO PAY HER PRICE A GOOD SHAG (OR WHATEVER CAME
TO HIS MIND) WHEN THIS OTHER PRO. WHO LOOKED FOWL I.E SHE WAS WEARING NOT A LOT
WITH SCRUFFY HAIR RIPS IN HER CLOTHING EVERYWARE AND SPUNK DRIPPING DOWN HER
LEGS, (LOOKS JUST LIKE SOME OF THEM UP HANLEY DUCK) CAME OTHER TO HER AND SAID
"YOU HAVE A GREAT CLOTHES A GREAT HAIR DOO AND YOU ARE SOOOOOOOO RICH HOW DO
YOU DO IT?" SO THE RICH ONE (LETS CALL HER TINA (NOOOOO! NO YOU (SHE IS READING
THIS AS I TYPE))) SAID "I WILL LET YOU INTO A LITTLE SECRET OF MINE. WHEN (IF)
YOU GET A CUSTMER JUST BEFORE YOU DO IT PUSH AN ELASTIC BAND UP YOUR CUNT AND
WHEN HE PULLS HIS COCK OUT THE ELASTIC BAND WILL GO TWANGGGGG!! AND YOU SCREAM
AND SHOUT TO THE GUY YOU BASTARD YOU'VE FUCKED IN MY CUNT THAT A FINE OF
WHATEVER THE SITUATION IS". SO THE SCRUFFY ONE (LETS CALL HER EMMA AFTER MY OLD
BIT WHO HAS PISED OFF WIT ANOTHER GUY "BITCH") GOES OFF AND TRYS THIS AND
AFTER ABOUT 8 WEEKS SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST LOOKING PRO'S. AROUND (AND MOST
EXPENSIVE) AND ONE DAY THIS MILLIONAIR (RICHARD BRANSON) DOES SOME BUSINESS

WORLD OF RAP by Rhythm Rebel -music with a big beat and a message.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rap has been around a long time. It's been over nine years since Grandmaster
Flash & The Furious Five recorded their LP "The Message." Or 13 years since
Sugar Hill Gang set New York street rhymes on vinyl. But it has taken long
enough to put rap on the map and it's here to stay now!
Throughout the '70s recorded rap existed only in the form of live shows taped
on cassette, duped on double decks and passed from friend to friend. Then in
1979, the first rap record was released "King Tim III (Personality jock)," the
B-side of the Fatback Band's "You're My Candy Sweet," it went to the charts
right away. Later that same year Sugar Hill Gang released "Rapper's Delight,"
it changed everything and was the first rap record that went platinium.
In '83, a new group Run DMC hit the charts with the release of "Sucker MCs,"
Driven by a booming 808 kick that definately destroys your car speakers and of
course cool lyrics telling how they started and how great they are. Run DMC's
tunes are hardcore rap at its hardest. Tracks like "King Of Rock" and their
lashing, smashing cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" opened the door for
LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys, and other "Hardcore B-boys."
The rap records which were made in the beginning, like the ones on the
Sugar Hill label, were just disco records with a guy rapping on them. That's
because these were companies who were making disco records, before rap become
popular. Rick Rubin (He is owner of Def Jam and was producer of Beastie Boys)
made records that had more to do with what the rap scene was in the clubs,
where the kind of beats emcees were rapping over weren't disco beats; they were
pure rock and roll beats, like Billy Squier's and Aerosmith's. So he made the
beats on these records more oriented toward rock. Rock influences can b clearly
heard from Beasties' first albums tracks "Fight For Your Right" and "No Sleep
Till Brooklyn." Darryl McDanields of Run DMC: "When we did 'Rock Box' and
'King Of Rock' these headbangers couldn't believe the tracks we made. They
like, 'Yo, man, that's really bad!' It definitely brought them in, and now,
they still with it. Even if Run DMC don't put a metal track, they gonna buy the
album and they'll wind up liking a hiphop jam, they'll end up liking a cut like
'Run's House' or 'Beats To The Rhyme.' Now they understand it. They followed
the guitar in there, and then they found out there was a whole other side to
it." A Run DMC concert, which in '85, would draw maybe a 70 or 80 percent
black audience, is now drawing a 70 or 80 percent white audience. Things have
changed in rap. When rap first started with Kool DJ Herc, It came into the
nation from Jamaica, which can be heard of da rap songs of today. There are
many rappers whose style of rapping is close to the toasters of reggae. The
rap-reggae connection is affirmed for example by: Dr. Alban's "No Coke,"
Special Ed's tracks, Daddy-Freddy's style to rap, Run-DMC had a tune "Roots,
Rap, Reggae." Even the Fat Boys have done a reggae rap "Hard Core Reggae."
Queen Latifah had a t rack called "Princess Of The Posse" on her album, that
has a very heavy reggae groove in it.
Historically, the big influence on the New York-based hiphop movement has been
Caribbean and Jamaican music. Africa Bambaata has Jamaican roots, Grandmaster
Flash has Caribbean roots. These days rap is everywhere . There are so many
different type of musicians who use rap on their songs: Anthrax, Paula Abdul,
New Kids On The Block... I don't know is it good or bad. For the artists, it is
just a way to sell more records. Rap music is really selling a lot and people
at record companies know it. There are rappers who have recorded from all
over the world.

GETTING GIRLS (Andy/Addonic)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have read a lot of articles lately about 'Getting Girls' but they were all
humour articles, and so I have written one that does contain serious things
(Somewhere...)

So! Your having trouble getting girlys are you? Well, first identify your
problem... Is it one of these:

    1) Not having the guts to go up to them.
    2) Not knowing what to say.
or 3) You are very ugly.
Well, Im sorry to those who answered 3, as you will have to rely on your
personality to impress girls, and this article wont really help you here!
(Or it might... There is someone for everyone!)

Ok! Now to deal with the points:
1) Look, the only thing a girl can really say to you if you go up to them is
NO. Don't worry about the million to one chance of her getting really
shitty, as a girl like this is a waste of time anyway. Just walk straight
up to the girl the moment you see her (The more time you spend thinking
about, the more excuses you will find for NOT going up to her!)
FACT: A lot of girls dont really get that many boys going up to them and
talking: A lot of REALLY good looking girls NEVER (!) get boys going
up to them, as they all think she wont be interested!
FACT: 9 times out of 10 a girl will be flattered and at least have a drink
with you.. It doesnt really matter if they dont go any further, as
all the experiance you get will build your confidance up for next
          time.
FACT: A LOT of girls go to nightclubs and bars and hope a boy will go and
talk to them as much as boys hope they will want to!
STORY: A boy who asks lots of girls to dance will get lots of NO's, but will
also get a lot of YES's as well... A boy that asks one or two is
          cutting the odds down!
HINT: Try this if you want to see if a girl is interested in you or not...
Make eyes at a girl across the bar/nightclub and when she has met
your gaze a few times, move when she is not looking to behind a
piller or something where you can see her. If she looks where you
were sat and then looks around the room to find you, she is probably
          interested!
                                                    (continues in next article)

2) What to say... Well, this is the question I get asked most of all, and here
is the few chat up lines I use (Along with the successes I have had with
    them!)
"If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?" -
Hmm... corny, but flattering! (A few liked it, but I dont use it now)
"Hello! I'm Andy.. How are you doing?" - This requires a lot of bottle to
do, but I find it works great if you say it with great confidance! (Lots of
    success, especially with older girls.)
"My friends bet me that I wouldnt go up to the best looking girl in this
nightclub/bar/etc.." - This works great on teenagers, but is a bit corny
for older girls; it doesn't require much confidance. (It works great
though.. Most of my friends use this one in towns we haven't been to
    before.)
"Are you alone? No? You shouldnt be with legs like that..." (I use this a
    lot!)
(At a university party) "What degree are you doing? (Blah) You are? You are
far to intelligent to have an arse like that!" (From Roadhouse!)
"Havent I seen you before somewhere?", "Are you that model from...", "Did I
see you in the fashion show at..." etc.. These work with some success in
some situations... It depends. (I dont use them!)
Follow the above bullshit up with an offer to buy her a drink, or to dance,
or to get something to eat etc...
FACT: Although a girl might not seem very interested, she might be... Dont
push, and if she gets uninterested pretend to be uninterested
yourself... Sometimes works. Girls like attention, and want to know
          why your giving it!
          Good luck!

Roland D-110 Test!!! By DHS of Italian Bad Boys
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Roland expander is one of the best seller of this factory. Now, it's out
of production, so you can buy it for few money. Since it's an expander, you
must use it in combination with a MIDI-Keyboard, or of course.....with your
Amiga! Since I bought it without documentation, this description cannot be
accurate!
The D-110 is a digital synth, using Roland's famous "LA Synthesis" sound
generation. It has got 8 musical parts and 1 rhythmical part. This means that
you can use 8 different instruments at the same time (also in polyphony) plus
a separate drums section.
It has 128 sampled waveforms in memory, to generate all kinds of sounds, and
128 PCM sounds (samples) to play with. We can also play with TVF and TVA
filters, reverber, chorus, cutoff and resonance.
Looking at the black chassis, we can find a volume output controller, a head-
phones jack, 16x2 LCD display, 16 keys, 1 slot for PCM cards, a led and the
power button. Backwards, it has 7 audio outputs and the usual Midi IN-OUT-THRU.
The memory is organized with patches (a lot!) Any patch contains the 8+1 parts,
where you can store the selected timbres for a song... A patch = the instru-
ments for a song... Easy or not!? You can set for any part the output level,
the pan (percentage for R/L chans), the keyrange (C-1 to G-9), the MIDI channel
of the part and the PTL reserve.
I still haven't found the way to edit the sound with the synth itself...so I
use the Dr.T's D-110 Editor (Great!) that allows you to store anything the
D-110 keeps in his mem on 3.5" disks, and, of course, to...edit the sounds...
you can obtain what you want...
I use D-110 in combination with MED 3.00, the best MIDI sequencer available on
Amiga. But I would like to see on Amy the great Steimberg's CUBASE.
I can say that the performances of D-110 are very similar to the ones of D-50
and D-70. To try out what D-110 can do, simply listen to one of the 8 demo
songs in memory...astounding! (My favourite is number 4, "My Brother").
If you're lucky, you can find an used D-110 for about 500 US $.

Interview with ALPHABIT of CHRONOS By Filippetto/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRONOS is a brand new (?) italian group, born, as well as I know, from some
sections of RESOLUTION 101, AGGRESSORS and others. Here's a short interview
with ALPHABIT (real name PINO).

- Yeah Alphabit. Come on, let's start this crap. How many members does your
  group have?
- About 30. If you want I can tell you all names, functions, ages...
- NO THANKS! Why do you swap only with your modem?
- We swap by post, too. We have a few mailswappers. But you see, our group is
based on the BBS also because there is a commercial concept about this all.
- Do you mean that you also make abos?
- Yeah of course. Not all members, but we have to find a way to pay our
phonebills. I ensure that there is no large money earning.
- What happened to GAB (ex-Aggressors' coder, one of the coolest in Italy)?
- Gab had to stop for a while due to some problems with the university (he
didn't make any exam for a lot of time and his father got angry like hell)
- As maybe all world knows, you are now in war with another italian group
  called DIVINA.
- Because they went against us firstly. It's a long story. First we were in
very good relationship with them, then the problems started when Timescape
used for his demo a Sledge's pic with a wrong palette so that Sledge's name
was nearly unreadable, but he didn't want to do it, it was necessary, cause
all over picture were running some dots which had to have that colour...
Anyway Sledge got angry and then the relationship became harder and harder
(in italian language, with other words: e' andato tutto a puttane)
- Who's the best modemtrader in Italy?
- There are many cool BBS's here. There's not a real leader. The most important
thing to stay in the scene is to keep on importing, spreading and so on.
There's no break, you always need to have the newest each day. Anyway I think
that TOMCAT of QUARTEX may be one of the best in Italy.
- Future plans?
- The second issue of our Superchart is nearly ready (the chart is voted via
BBS). It's very cool: cool animation, cool music, excellent improved coding.
We are also trying to get a good original supplier to crack something. Then
we should relase soon our own mag, but a new kind: it will be released each
15 days, and it will contain just the latest news from the elite scene for
the elite scene. And, last but not least, we're also preparing our first
  megademo.
- Do you want to greet someone?
- Aaarrgh! All people who collaborate with us and are against Divina!
- Ok Alphabit! Thanx for the interview and see you soon!

"THINK ABOUT IT..." By Soul/Cyrus
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a thought for you....
Have you ever referred to someone by using the term "lamer"? If so, then why?
Is it because they are unable to supply you with hot warez or because they find
it difficult coding a simple scroller or a starfield? Or is it because all they
do is collect games and don't do sod all else on the Amy?!
Well whatever the reason is, it all boils down to the same point. That is being
abusive towards people just because they are unable to do things you can. The
term lamer is abusive because it is generally used in the sense of promoting
the fact that the person in question is useless or stupid. After all one of the
applicable definitions of lame is 'stupid person'. And sometimes we say things
not being aware of what we are implying...
I am sure there are plenty of things others can do that you can't, so would it
be justifiable to call you a lamer? And for you lot out there who are turning
round and saying "Well does it really matter?" I'm afraid to say yes it does
matter. And to prove the point here's an example...
If someone was to call you a motherfucker, I am sure (if you had a bit of
decency) you would not stand for a remark like that. Now it just so happens
that the guy who abuses you is twice the size of you and you know that one kick
from him and you'll be looking for one of your balls down the drain and then
ask the next man to post you your other ball if he finds it....What can you do
other than ignore the remark, but I am sure you'll feel hurt. Well, someone who
gets referred to as a lamer is bound to be hurt by your actions. So why cause
trouble and grief?
You would agree that no one is born from their mum's womb knowing it all that's
why we have a life so we can learn about different things and broaden our
knowledge. If you are a good coder or a musician then you have worked for
it and learned from friends, books or whatever. You are in a seperate class
from the people who cannot code and do music, but you are definately not
superior in any sense. Just remember, the Amiga is a computer. A passtime. What
really matters is Ethics, Morals, Friendship, Manners and Sense.
If we want to be successful in life we will find that abuse and down grading
other people will not help us achieve the fancy dreams we all have. Instead we
will find ourselves lost, alone and hopeless. We must learn to appreciate
people for even the slightest quality they possess. We must learn that there
are beginners in this world, like you were once, and they deserve every
opportunity to learn. Our constructive criticisms will help them learn but our
rude remarks will de-moralise them and hurt them... No one wants to be hurt.
                                                    (continues in next article)

(continues from previous article)

The reason for me writing this article is that recently I have been meeting a
lot of people who talk to me about people they know and refer to them as
lamers. When I question them I usually get a silly answer like: "Ohhh...He's a
lamer because he doesn't know what a boot block is...." or "He's a lamer
because he sent me a game and I already had it..." You know the basic kind of
shit I mean. So I have to ask them questions in which I can get the chance to
call them a lamer. Not out of spite, but I do explain to them afterwards (after
calling them a lamer for a reason) that they didn't like it and others don't
too. So cut the macho shit and stop treating people in a crude and negative
sense, you never know who's round the corner waiting to do more to you than
call you a lamer.
The Amiga is a truely remarkable computer. It has not only given us lot a
machine which we can manipulate and enjoy, it has created another world
revolving around itself. Here I refer to the Amiga scene, which is no small
thing. The organisation of groups, the trading, the links, the work people put
into their productions gives life to the computer and opens the doors to a
different world. A world where we don't have hatred, crime and the nasty things
in life, but instead we can meet people who share the same interest and above
all we have escaped from the brutal face of reality...However there are people
who spoil this computer world of ours by introducing the same harmful, abusive
and disliked concepts we face everyday in the real world.
Call no one lame and hurt no one's feelings. Everybody is part of this big
Amiga Family, so let us all pitch in and do what we can to keep the scene
alive, kicking and above all friendly.
I apologise sincerely if anyone has been offended by anything I may have said.
My aim is not to put people down or abuse anyone, I am trying to convey a
simply message that I feel we should not be calling others Lame, in any sense.
It may seem harmless enough to you who's saying it, but try to think of the
person who you are saying it to. What will he think of you, and he may take it
to heart and why are you making enemies for no reason at all. Just relax, enjoy
yourself and make friends..
For without friendship, we wouldn't be here today!

                          Think about it mate.
                            Friends Forever.
                     Soul...The Middle Man To Death.
