WHAT THE HELL ARE SWAPPING FOR?? (AJAY/AMAZE)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I begin to babble on the subject of swapping,I'd just like to say that
I'm from a group in the UK, so the points that i make apply to the UK mainly.
Ok, now i've got that out the way let's start. So why ??. "WHY THE HELL DO WE
SWAP ??" To some guys it maybe just to be recieve the latest warez or the
latest demos or whatever else it maybe. To me though and a lot of other guyz
it means FRIENDSHIP. I expect all you lot beyond the screen are saying "Oh
man, another boring article on friendship!! ZZZzzz" Yeah, well you may do that
and i don't really blame you but i feel that this is a real important, if not
the most important factor of swapping.Y'know,I used to have to have a contact
,well i still do and we are still good mates. We wouldn't write the commom six
word letter that we all know.. "HI,HERES LATEST,SEND LATEST,BYE", but instead
write an esay(almost anyway)to each other,or maybe we would talk on the phone
and chat for hours on end.Loads of guyz share this view,Elite and Lame alike.
I mean if you wanna learn to code for example you don't just get the books to
teach you but also the help of some coders and it takes a good mate to take
some of their time just to help you out with coding.Same applys to swapping.
I know guyz who may not recive the latest can be a pain up the ass when there
trying to get some warez of you, but when you do help them, you can be sure
that he's now another friend of yours and you never know. The guy you may have
helped out may return the favour to you. Another recent thing that i've just
noticed is the FRIENDSHIP group, which i where all groups, regardless of status
come together.(Apologies to anyone if this is incorrect) Anyaway i think this
idea is great and i hope many big groups as well as the little ones join this
movement. Another way of keeping friendship up,and which i think is the best,
is the partys or legally 'demo conferences' as they are so called. These are a
great way of meeting your contacts, meeting the big guys in the scene and also
getting to know other people you never met... So thumbs up to all these. So
after all that the point I'm trying to make is that " A FRIEND IS FOREVER,THE
AMIGA ISN'T " Think what you may of that... Anyway, THANX for reading this
article and THANX to the guyz at AMAZE for publishing it (ya see, it's
published.ed). If you do wanna contact me, my address will be on the
classifieds section.....
INTERVIEW WITH PINK PANTHER OF KYRIOS (ROKDAZONE/EX-AMAZE)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rok : So, please introduce yourself and tell us something about your work in
your group.
P.P.: Hi! This is PINK PANTHER boring you with another interview. After a cup
of tea and my English-homework. I'm quite inspired to write some lines.
Yes... my work. I actually do not believe it's "work" what I am doing
but my hobby is to compose musics. Well, I'm trying to! But... , coz
of the fact that I'm trying it for two years now, I'm very satisfied
with the results.
Rok : Well, when did you start your career and on which computer?
P.P.: My interest for the computer awoke when I first saw the good old C64 in
action. Not much time passed and I got my very own machine, it was a
C128. In the beginning, there were only a couple of small groups with
members only from Oldenburg (our hometown.ed). But... after some years
our knowledge got bigger and the groups we joined got bigger, too. The
last one, before I bought an AMIGA was called STATIC. It was quite a
nice group and we also had some releases. The show on AMIGA started with
a group nammed SAVORY (know da sticker?). We had many member- and
namechanges, from SAVORY over AXXEON to ARISE and finally to SUPPLEX.
This is a great group if you have a modem or if you are able to crack
or train. But if you do graphix or musix it isn't the right place. That's
the reason why some folx of mine and me built a new group:KYRIOS. These
friends were EPIC (former RED HAWK) and JAXX (former SLIMER)/CELTIC and
XY/SUPPLEX. This team is really nice 'cause of cool coding (EPIC) and
gfx (JAXX & XY).
Rok : Phew, long answer isn't it? ...What do you think about the scene today?
P.P.: I like the many new and "old" musicians in the scene. They are really
getting better. Many tunes aren't worse than a lot of the charts-stuff
at the moment. I really like the situation nowadays. ... The scene is
getting professional!
Rok : Oh, I hope, ya are also thinking of me (Ok, I'm already quite...).
Let's go on... What is your favourite...
P.P.: -group : RED SECTOR ! The coolest, hottest & biggest.
-demo : Cebit (RSI)! Great design (except the charset!)
-musician : Walkman! A professional.
-gfx-artist: Terminator! The logo of the century.
-coder : A lot are the best! Perhaps: SLAYER, KREATOR, DELTA, TEC
METALLION, SULKY FELLOW (and some more maybe!)
Rok : Right, what do you think about copy-parties?
P.P.: Their are always fun if you join the right one. It's not so important
how famous the group that organizes it is, but the mood! (and the stuff
of course!)
(continues in next article)
(continues from previous article)
Rok : Please, tell us something about your future plans.
P.P.: I hope my tunes will complete some really nice KYRIOS-productions in
the near future.
Rok : Because you are a musician, it would be interesting to know what music
you are listening to in your spare-time.
P.P.: In my spare-time I'm listening to groups like Queensryche, Iron Maiden
Propaganda, Phil Collins, Marillion...
Rok : Hm, quite different... And what is your favourite food/drink?
P.P.: I could die for "Gyros" with beer!!!
Rok : Yes, I've just realized the beer. And your favourite movies/series?
P.P.: My favourite movies are: Top Gun, Rainman, Pretty Woman, Oedipussy,
Die Hart.
Rok : Coz we were together on a trip to LONDON, what do you think about the
journey and the city as whole?
P.P.: Everything is great in LONDON. The citizens, the shops, the breakfast,
the beer, everything. Also on the ferry we had a lot of fun. We held
our party right before the cabines and the capitaine wasn't satisfied
with that at all...
Rok : Uh, I know that story, because the capitaine liked to arrest me twice.
But, to continue... Do you have any personal greetings/fuckings?
Dir gehoert. Ruf' mal an!); DEFCON 5 (Moin Michael, immernoch alles
klar mit SUPPLEX?)...
Rok : All right Folk, I'm finished now with questions and I'm thirsty, too.
Some last words???
P.P.: All inspiration has gone! Bye, bye and see you...!
Rok : Cheers...
Ibbenbueren-Osnabrueck Scene Report (WARHEAD/PANIC)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi dudez ! I am Warhead of PANIC and I want to write an article about the
Amiga-Scene in the region in which I live. I can't write about my own town
because I live in a very small town (german: kaff) and I am the only one in
Mettingen (yep!), who is involved in the Amiga-Scene.
Ok, lets start:
PANIC
The only members of Panic in this region are me(Warhead) and Dr.Headcrash and
we are quite good friends and meet quite often. I am mainly swapping and
nerving around while Dr.Headcrash is a really productive guy(music, gfx, code).
Watch out for his next multi-part demo Crucifiction. In this case I want to
send a big fuck to Freiherr von Gravenreuth who accused both of us. Also I
want to mention Outrage (no Panic member)who is a friend of both of us. Thanx
for making us the stickers, mate !
STYLE
The music section of Style called TBB(The Beating Brothers) is living in this
area. The only member who is only working for Style is Blue Angel. The others
are just musicians from other groups in this area who sometimes support Style
I think there is nothing special to mention about them.
ADEPT
This group is mainly situated in Osnabrueck. They have two quite talented
coders (Scampy and Kruemel), but their gfx and sounds and their swapping is
nothing special. In my opinion the main disadvantage of this group is that
they are quite arrogant. At the moment I don't see any possibility for them
to become famous, because they now have no reason to be anymore in war with
Adept Sweden because these guyz joined Horizon (hi Stranger).
ACTION
Action is also one of the upcoming groups in this region. TSM, their HQ is
doing his job well and they also got some more members in the last time. The
Panic-Action meetings are always big fun. People most times present are me
and Dr.Headcrash/Panic, TSM and Blackthorne/Action and probably some others.
At the moment Action is in cooperation with VAMPS, but Vamps don't have any
members in this area. TSM told me that Vamps are nearly dead and that they
will join Action then but I don't know whether this is true or not!
COMA
This group consists of ex-members from Exage, Antares and some other guyz.
After some starting problems (demo made with RSI-Demomaker, bad comic-intro),
they released a really good vectordemo made by Mad Butcher. I don't know very
much about them, but I think that their main-problem is that they have too
much unproductive members.
Well, I think that these are all more or less important groups in this area.
I hope that I haven't forgotten anyone important! Like everywhere here are
also dozens of gambling lamers but we can't all be sons of the lord (haha)!
At last I want to say that this report just represents my own opinion! If
your opinion is different, I can only say: I don't care!!!

THE SCENE REPORT ABOUT SANDEFJORD/NORWAY (NICK/CAVEMEN)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ABSENCE - This group is quite cool. They make some cool packs. They have also
made two music-disks with GREAT music on. I think two of their members (Champ
Design & Mr.Man) are some of the best in the norwegian scene. The rest of the
group is also very good, but not as good as them. I believe they have about
6-7-8 members here in Sandefjord.
ANDROMEDA - My opinion about them is that they're one of Norway's top 5
groups! They're not so productive, but their productions are always GREAT!
They have 3 members here in Sandefjord (At least I think so!)
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, GUYS!
TRIUMPH - I haven't seen so much stuff from this group, but they have made a
useful utility called Intuitracker, and I think this just is a great utility.
(I'm using it right now!) With this utility you can run Noisetracker and
Soundtracker modules with multi-tasking!
Sandefjord is a small town, so I don't think it's weird that there are so few
amiga-freaks here! But, Sandefjord is one of the best scenes in Norway!!
(This is only my opinion!)
If interested, look in the advertisements-section for my contact-addy!

INTERVIEW WITH A NON-AMIGA USER (BOMBER/ANARCHY)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well,at first I have to tell ya that this unserious interview was made when I
was still a member of Amaze. It was made just for fun not like a normal shit
interview nobody wants to read!
- Hi. At first introduce yourself
- Hi. I am H.T. (He don't want to say his name here!). I am 15 and quite a
good golfer: Handicap 4!!! (I have only 10 !!! -ed)
- Why do ya make this interview with me here for a computermag????
- Becoz ya forced me to do this!!
- Aeh... Ok. Lets go to the next question. The important one. Do ya have a
computer and if so which one?
- I've got a 486 AT with 6 MB Ram and a 120 MB Harddisks. (It's his fathers!!
he, he, he!! -ed)
- So coz ya are a good friend of me and know a bit about my life in the
AMIGA-Scene which groups do ya know???
- AMAZE, Anarchy,Budbrain, Red Sector, Beastie Boys, Skid Row, Cryptoburners,
Dexion, Silents. These are the ones I remember. Mostly becoz of their good
Demos (by Skid Row ofcoz their cracks!)
(I forced him to look at every demo I got!!!! -ed)
- Do ya know any special persons from the scene (Their names)????
- Bomber (ha, groel, joke), Pinhead, Filippetto, Galaxy, Mr.Ozzo of AMAZE
4-Mat/Anarchy, Delta/TTC/Red Sector, Romeo Knight/Red Sector,
Dr.Oetker/Timex (but only becoz I got today a sending from him with some
Schokopowder for Schokopudding -ed)
- Do ya have games on ya fathers computer???
- Yes, Flight Simulator 4.0
- Do ya like computer-games on the AMIGA and what do ya prefere?
- Yes, I like TV Sports Basketball and Kick Off II Final
(It's horrible when he comes. Then I must play these two games for
hours -ed)
- Why do ya come so often to my place?
- Coz ya live only 50m away from me and coz I like playing TV Sports
Basketball.
- Do ya like Demos???
- Yes, but unfortunately I never seen some for the MS-DOS.
(Please send some (3.5 or 5.25) to me (Bomber). He will return ya
disks -ed)
(continues in next article)
(continues from previous article)
- Which do ya remember?
- Budbrain Megademo I, Cryptoburners 3D Demo, Madness and Pantasmadinsbums..
from Anarchy all AMAZE Production (he forced me to say this!!!). Ok. I
know some more but these Demos impressed me most.
- Ok. So lets turn to something other. I know that ya play golf (coz ya are
in my club !!!!). When do ya started???
- I started with 10. My long-game is Nick-Faldo-like but my putting is the
worst you've ever seen (I know this problem -ed)
- Do ya have other spare-time activities?
- Yes, billard. I play it very often with Bomber (hey, that's me ! -ed) in
our local pub. But after 10 frames we can't play anymore (hicks, groel,
kotz, sabber, lall....)
- What is ya sex-live doing??
- Well, after I made it the last time with my ex-girlfriend I recognized that
it's not so funny to fuck a little 14 year old girl who never made it
before. So now I am looking for some older ones!!
(Put immediately the photo of my girlfriend away, sucker!!!!! -ed)
- So now we don't have anymore inspirations to make this interview.
We are going to play now a bit billard and the other things (hicks!)
- Ok... here we are..(Ruelps)...born to be breit!!! (Hicks) It's now 23.30, 5
hours after we started this interview. So let's continue (groel, sabber...)

- Good question. I am searching for it. (Rumms, Klirr, schepper) Here it is.
The bottle is unbroken but EMPTY!!!! (Ruelps... Kotz..)

in a corner lalling some words like: beer, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels,

SWEDISH TELEVISION DEMO COMPETITION (ROCKET/HYPNOSIS)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes! You are reading it right! The Swedish channel 'TV 2' shall arrange a
demo competition for Amiga. The program is called 'BIT FOR BIT' and will be
shown in a part of the program: 'KOSMOPOL'. The program starts in the be-
ginning of february 1991 and will last to late March so you have not so much
time to do YOUR demo, so start NOW!!!!
This competition is especially for those who can see the program, but if you
are a scandinavian (from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland) group you can
feel free to join this competition.
I don't know the prices you can win yet, but the best demos will ofcourse be
showed on TV and that's a great publicity for the group I think.
We have no special rules, but if you would have a chance to win then you must
do a cool, original demo with nice effects (ex. Animations, plasma, Raster and
things which are nice to watch.)
If you`re beginner and want to ask questions about games, computing etc. it`ll
also be a 'Question corner' so send in your questions right away!!!
The program 'Bit for bit' will contain: Demos, Gametests, Question corner, Re-

Letters to the editors (2)
--------------------------
Here's another letter, from Gully.
Hello,
this is Gully (coder of Disk Master 3.0) writing to you. Well,
I'd like to send messages in your Freedom Crack. First of all, I'm now coding
Disk Master 4.0. So I'm looking for lots of new ideas. Here are some, I've
think about:
- Read Power Packed files
- Mini editor (to edit startup and messages)
- Move option
- ...
- All bugs removed
It will be great and very useful for all the swappers (because the disk packer
won't need anything else than DM4.0).
Disk Master 3.2 hasn't been released by Gully. In fact, it seems to be a joke
from a group because only the colour changes!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for the messages about your utility. We have nothing more to say,
except that we could give you some ideas for your Diskmaster. For example, why
don't you add a Viruskiller also for Link- and IRQ- viruses, or also for HD
viruses? It would be great! If the readers want to send their ideas or just
contact Gully, they should read his advertisement in Advertisements 8...

The year of friendship By Playboy/Prologic
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comment to the article called "Swap something else" by Raistlin of Northstar
published in the latest issue of Freedom Crack (Released at Dexions party
in Odense - Denmark).
Written while having a very serious HANGOVER. Today is the 1st of January 1991
so i guess you can all understand why.
In the year 1990 I did alot of swapping but the things i enjoyed the most was
swapping BEER. The beers came from all over the world and they contained from
about vol. 0.05% to aprox 10% of alcohol.
I hereby wish t o encourage all you freaks out there to swap beer and other
alcoholic drinks. The beers are a very familiar subject all over the globe and
if all swappers can join together around swapping other things than disks
the freindship will rise again and the scene will return to the way it was in
the good old days.
In the good old days friendship was the main purpose of swapping. BUT 1990 was
the year where swap machines found the way to the top under the slogan:
"Speed rules". Quite alot of the newcomers in the scene have followed their
example and have turned into swap machines who called friendship lame and
who thinks they are cool just because they are fast.
I am very sorry to say so, but it is my opinion that today there are only a few
of your contacts you can call true friends, and so I ask all you cool dudes out
there to make 1991 THE YEAR OF FRIENDSHIP.
Well i guess i have proved my point and I would very much like to hear from all
of you out there who agrees with me. And a final word to Raistlin of Northstar:
Cool article. I hope that you will find time to send me a letter. (Please avoid
the fish becaus e it is really slimey), well see you at the STATIC BYTES &
PROLOGIC PARTY in Nykoebing Falster - Denmark.
Well see you all there and don't forget 1991 - THE YEAR OF FRIENDSHIP
Formatting a PC hard disk By Raistlin/North Star
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IN FACT THIS ARTICLE IS JUST A LITTLE TIP. IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT FOR EXAMPLE
LIKE ME A FILECARD 42 MBYTES YOU WILL HAVE MANY PROBLEM WITH THIS. SO FOLLOW MY
INSTRUCTIONS, GIVEN ANYWHERE IN ANY SPECIFIC DOCUMENTATION...
FORMATTING A HARD DISK IS NOT EASY AND FAST, SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE AT LEAST 3
OR 4 SWEATING HOURS IN FRONT OF YOUR MONITOR, JUST GIVE UP. IF YOU WANT TO
REPARTITION THE HARD DISK, DO LIKE THIS:
- MAKE BACKUPS OF BOTH AMIGA AND PC HARD DISK
- BOOT PC FROM DISK
- REMOVE PC PARTITION AND AMIGA PARTITION WITH THE PROGRAMS CALLED
FDISK AND JDISK.
- REPLACE THEM WITH DESIRED SIZES (FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU WANT 10
MEGABYTES JUST ASK FOR (10*1000)/512 BLOCKS)
- RESET THE AMIGA SYSTEM
- INSERT YOUR HD BOOT-DISK AND BREAK CLI. THEN TYPE:
- BINDDRIVERS
- DJMOUNT
- ALWAYS CANCEL WHEN THERE'S A REQUESTER (NON DOS,ETC...)
- LOAD DISKMONPRO OR SUCH A GOOD DISK MONITOR WITH DEVICES
- FORMAT A 3.5 DISK WITH THE FORMAT OPTION
- LOAD 24 TRACKS (=12 CYLINDERS) FROM $30000 TO $7DFF0
- TRY TO VIEW ASCII, YOU WILL SEE MANY 'DOS.'
- THEN UNDER DISKMONPRO, WRITE OVER HD TRACKS FROM THE NUMBERS
INDICATED IN THE DEVICE INFO, AND REPEAT THIS FOR ALL THE TRACKS.
- RUN DISKDOCTOR FROM CLI
- REINSTALL YOUR BACKUP FROM AMIGA
- FORMAT YOUR PC HARDDISK WITH THE 'FORMAT' COMMAND UNDER MSDOS.
- REINSTALL YOUR PC BACKUP
- THAT'S ALL
I KNOW THIS IS A LONG METHOD BUT AT LEAST IT WORKS. SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE
MIGHT THINK: WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T HE USE THE FORMAT COMMAND FROM CLI? ANSWER:
TRY IT, THE SYSTEM WILL SEEK TO DEATH THE HD TRACK 0...I USED ALL MY UTILITIES
BUT ONLY THIS METHOD WORKED...DON'T USE PROGRAMS MADE FOR GVP HARDDISKS, IT
WON'T WORK TOO. ANYWAY, I DON'T TAKE ANY RESPONSABILITY WITH WHAT YOU CAN DO
WITH YOUR HD. ENJOY M8S!!!
Amiga Bridgeboard Review By Raistlin/Northstar
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of people wonder and don't really know what such a card can do. That's
why I'm writing this article!
Two kinds of PC cards exist: the XT and the AT. With standard processors the
XT is running 4.77 Mhz, and the AT is much faster with 8 Mhz. The block
emulator includes also a disk drive. It's a 360 Kb for XT and 1.2 Mb for AT.
Both are full compatibles - I mean that the 360 Kb disks are running into
1.2 Mb drives. Both cards are also CGA (4 colors in lores).
But what people wonder is not that. What can you do with these cards and how?
The main advantage is that both emulate a real PC and you don't have any
problem about compatibility. It takes about 20 seconds of loading under WB
and then a PC-Window appears with some options like colors, border, cursor,
and some useful copy and paste tools (You can transfer text between the Amiga
and PC).
Some people think that they can use the 5.25 PC drive for the Amiga...
Unfortunately it's totally wrong. Even if I'm sure it could be possible to do
it, there's actually no program able to do it.
What is important with this emulator is that you can run multitasking
between WorkBench and PC-Window. The speed is a bit lower but it's like you
open another utility or icon...You easily calculate a ray-tracing image under
Amiga (Not under PC of course!!!) and work under whatever you want under PC
(Why not a game ???).
The PC 5.25 and Amiga drives easily work together multitasking. The only
problem remains with the hard disk if you have one. You can't easily switch
C: and DH0:. Even if doesn't crash, it may be a bit stressing if you have to
use programs that automatically save data on the same hard disk. On the other
hand, there's absolutelly no problem in formatting HD with partitions.
One more question people ask:
- Do the games work normally???
- Yeah!!!
They even work faster that normal if you run XT games under the AT emulation!
Do you believe me if I tell you that Indy 500 AT is faster and more playable
under PC??? It's true! Lotsa 3D games are very fast with beautiful animation!
Of course you'll still have the lame 4 colors with CGA, but if you buy a VGA
you'll be able to see the same colors (Ahem...Nearly,...) as the Amiga!
Personally, I bought this such a card because it was sold together with the
A2000, and I thought I'd sell it to buy an expansion...I didn't because I
discovered that many PC programs are much better that Amiga ones. Of course,
there's no demos...Hehe...and people on PC is very lame too! But you buy the
card and the people!
In the hope this crap of text shone and will remove all the wrong ideas you
had in your mind!!! Write me if you have any comment for this article. Thanx!

A FEW SMALL THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SCENE By A-Ha/Resolution 101
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the last ten days, while looking at newest demos I was sent, I noticed a
very strange thing: almost one half of the demos being released, even by
top named groups, are simply deja-vu. Think about it for a minute: how
many sinus scrollers, how many copper-fields, how many parallax stars and
how many equilizers have you seen last week? I don't know, but I think
they are too many. The point is this: you say the word Demo stands for
Demonstration, and it wont be me proving you're wrong. But what are you to
demonstrate? Programming skills, musical orgasms, multi-planed graphisms?
Well, the Seka, the Noisetracker and a DPaint will do for these three. So
why compiling and packing? Any demo is expected to be looked at. You type in
scrolltexts, you draw graphics, you write ultra fast realtime calcs, you even
make a few beeps to attract the users' attention. You don't want people to
boot up your demo, look at it for some 10 seconds and then press left mouse,
do you? So why does people write superb masterpieces of coding, but write them
all alike? I think the best demos ever are the ones telling us a story. No, I
wont make no names, I dont think it would be fair of me. But all the same, I
love those cartoon-style demos that really catch your eyes and your heart even
if they look nothing more than a simple DPaint ANIM... Well, let's say a
complex DPaint ANIM. Good demos are also the ones in which you user can do
something, and I do not mean changing scroll speed or background tune. No, I
neither mean fucking your enemy crew through joystick waggling. I know a
playable demo is maybe more complex to code, but it's better coding a good demo
part than a shit megademo, isn't it? We are spending the best days of our lives
in front of a CRT screen. Why not spending them right?
CALLING CARDS - AT LAST, IN ITALY TOO! By Zendick/Resolution 101
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calling from public telephones without using a bunch of coins or cards that
last not more than 10.000 lira. At last, in Italy too is born a telephone
credit card, that lets you call from public telephones without spending
anything at the moment. The bill comes out every two months, together with
the standard telephone bill. Now it's about four months since when SIP
(Italy's public telephone company) started this service, and 20.500 cards
have been sold.
Who buys them? Hard to say, but maybe people who travel a lot and very often
call from public telephones, the most for long distance or international
calls. The same can be said about the other cards on sale in France, UK and
Germany; if you look at the table above, you'll find a comparation among
them. Well, of course we in Europe can't match the American way of
telephoning, where pretty everybody now has such cards. But all the same in
1988 France Telecom sold 600.000 cards all at once as soon as it was
available.
SIP makes you pay 12.000 lira per year for the card, and then 250 lira +
VAT on every call you originate using the card. So, it would be foolish using
it for a short distance call that would only cost 200 lira; on the other hand,
it is of course useful on long distance high cost calls. At this moment, the
public telephones accepting this card are 25.000, about 26% of the total, but
they are to increase soon.
The card gives you more facilities: you will be able to call outside Italy
just by dialing 15 (170 outside Europe) and then your card's no. and your
secret code. You will be able to use this method also to call Italy from
more than 30 foregin countries. If you want any call you make to be patched
on your bill, you will have to pay 35 lira + VAT per call. But surprises are
not over. Comma 6 of the buyers contract says that SIP can ask you for some
money in advance for your calls. Carlo delle Piane, responsible for public
calling, says that this means you have to pay 50.000 lira a year in advance
if you buy it outside your telephone zone. Also, if you use it over a certain
limit, you will be asked for even more money in advance. This kind of limits
exist in other countries too. With the british 'Changecard' you can't spend
more than 99 pounds a day; with 'Carte Pastel' you cant originate more than
170 calls a year. At least, Italian cards are pretty cheap: the German have to
pay 42.000 lira a year as a tax, and the English from 450 to 600 lira more per
call.
COMPARING FOUR CARDS:
ITALY: You can buy it from your telephone agency or by mail, costs 12.000
lira per year and charges 250 lira + VAT on every call, no matter how long.
FRANCE: The 'Carte Pastel' is distribuited by France Telecom. It is
available in three ways: International (60 FF a year), National (40 FF) or
Selection (40 FF); this lets you call only a fixed list of numbers both in
France or abroad. Nothing else is due.
UK: the 'Changecard' is distribuited by France Telecom. It costs nothing but
20 pence if you originate the call from a digital phone or 30 pence if you do
it from an old one and you have to pass through an operator.
GERMANY: the 'Telecard' is distribuited by Bundes Telecom. It costs 20 DM and
then 3 DM every month. You dont have charges on single calls.

THOSE GOODFELLAS IN ITALIAN POLICE: VARESE-COMO By A-Ha/Resolution 101
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everybody told us we live in a free state. Everybody told us violence is out of
our lives, that it is just a piece of our nature we have left behind. So we
think about the police as about a few smart guys who help grannies walking
across the street and to whom you may ask information about streets and so on.
Then you go to a third-division football match, and you find out another point
of view.
Varese and Como are two nearby towns in northern Italy, and their football
teams play the same division. Hooligans from these towns hate each other a real
bunch, and so when they play one against the other there is a load of police
around. I know a guy who is in the Varese supporters and who told me a little
story. Well, he was going into the playfield passing over the nets together
with a few others when the police arrived. They started beating real bad with
those steel and rubber bats, and my friend was hit in his back, in a leg and in
his shoulder. A friend of his saved him pulling him up out of the playfield,
but some other unlucky guys had to run away as they could, not to get hit too
bad. He saw a few policemen beating a guy who had already fallen down to the
floor, and beating him with a rifle butt in his face! Then after the match came
two helicopters, and they launched tear-gas. One of those tear-gas bombs fell
nearby my friend, and he took it with his hand to throw it away. He burnt his
fingers. Then people started running away and everybody started rushing and
pushing to the gates, and ofcourse they were closed. Thanks God they broke down
and so people could run away, because else there could have been somebody
injured really bad.
I dont mean my friend was right, because hooligans did a load of damage. But
are we sure there is no better way than unconditional violence to keep violent
young dudes under control? I mean, violence by the police causes more violence
by the hooligans that causes in itself more violence by the police. Now going
to any football, basketball or hockey match means undergo examination by a few
policemen. What will be in the future? A lot of people don't go anymore to
matches for the risk of getting hit by somebody. I think sport is great, but I
dont like getting into a war zone every time I wanna see a few guys playing
with a ball. What do you think about this?
Interview with Silkie of Cerberos By Filippetto/Vega
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cerberos are one of the most famous crews from Hungary. You all know that just
1 year ago the hungarian scene was very little, but now it's getting bigger
and bigger... Here's a short interview with Silkie of Cerberos. He usual does
gfx but he also is a swapper.
- So, here we are. Tell me something about your group (members, aims...)
- Well, Cerberos woz founded during the summer of 1990. Our first success was
the 1st prize at the Chromance-party in Hungary, there we presented 3 demos
for the competition, and they've pumped us up to the top. At the moment we
have about 10 members.
- Do a quick review of the scene there in Hungary...
- Our scene started to awake only about a half year ago, but nowadays there
are lotsa good groups keeps alive the home scene. The most powerful ones
are: Majic 12, Chromance, 23 Celsius Crew, Soc. Brigade, Grace, V.I.P.,
Northstar Hungary, Live Act and ofcoz Cerberos. The others are still
beginners (he-he).
- And tell me sumthin'bout the girlies in Hungary...
- Yep, what to say, they're lovely as everywhere! Oh, but there is a big
difference compared to other girls: the hungarian girlies can speak
hungarian! (Don't kill me pleez...just a lame joke!)
- You, like me, hate the fuckin' lame school. Why? And why don't we found an
organisation with Mafia or sumthin' like that to throw a bomb over our
school?
- Ya know, I hate school coz I hate that when brainless shitheads (teachers..)
are trying to command me! (Yeah, I'm a rebel...) And really, if may I ask,
why don't we use bombs?
(Ed: If you're reading and you're interested in supplying bombs or missiles,
contact us: you do it for a right cause!)
- Back to the Amiga. What's your favourite drink? (No, just kidding). What
kind of projects does Cerberos have for the future?
- In the near future we'll seriously activate ourselves in the game-business,
but ofcoz we'll keep up our name in the scene too! You asked 'bout my
favourite drink: hmm...I prefer fresh blood!
- Some latest words to say/people to greet-fuck?
- At first best wishes to all the editors and readers of Freedom Crack,
especially you, Filippetto, for interviewing such an idiot like me! (He-he)
I don't want to make commercial for lamers by sending fuckings here. And at
last, remember that great guy, who firstly said something like: frienship
rulez! Cerberos, the guardian of the hell!
Thanx to Silkie of Cerberos for the interview!
Letters to the editors

This is a letter from Richard/Whitestar:
HI...I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD WRITE TO YOUR MAGAZINE TO EXPRESS A FEW POINTS THAT
MUST BE PISSING OFF QUITE A FEW AMIGA OWNERS OF LATE.
1..WHY IS THE SCENE BECOMING SO SERIOUS
2..WHY ARE PEOPLE BEING SO ELITEIST
3..WHY ISN'T YOUR MAG AT THE TOP OF THE EURO CHARTS?
4..WHY DID THE TITANIC SINK
FIRST I'LL DEAL WITH POINT ONE. I THINK THAT THE AMIGA SCENE IS HEADING FOR A
COMMUNICATION CALAMITY. SURELY THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM IN THE AMIGA WORLD FOR
EVERYBODY. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SEEING THE WORDS ELITE ONLY NEED APPLY. AND
WHY DO WE SEE THESE WORDS ON SO MANY BOARDS, ADDRESSES, ADVERTS ETC? ITS
BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE THEY'VE BROUGHT OUT A FEW COMPACTS,
DEMOS ETC THAT EVERYBODY ELSE IS LAME. WELL GUYS I'VE GOT NEWS FOR YOU THIS
KIND OF SELECTIVE ELITEISM CAN ONLY BRING ABOUT THE END OF WHAT HAS BECOME THE
BEST COMPUTER SCENE THAT THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE
QUALITY OF DEMOS THESE DAYS, I FOR ONE AM ALWAYS AMAZED BY THE TOP CLASS DEMOS
THAT ARE ALWAYS ARRIVING ON THE SCENE, SO MUCH TALENT. BUT GUYS DON'T FORGET
THAT THESE GUYS HAD TO LEARN SOMETIME AND WE WERE ALL LAMERS AT ONE TIME OR
ANOTHER JUST DON'T FORGET: FRIENDSHIP WILL ALWAYS RULE.
POINT TWO REALLY GOES ALONG WITH POINT ONE BUT I'VE A FEW MORE WORDS TO SAY ON
THE SUBJECT. DO YOU REMEMBER IN 1939 WHEN SOMEBODY THOUGHT THAT HE WOULD BE
ELITE AND BREED AN ELITE RACE? LOO K WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. WHAT IT REALLY BOILS
DOWN TO IS THIS... COOL IT GUYZ...COS IF YOU DON'T AND YOU KEEP DISCRIMINATING
AGAINST THE LESS TALENTED THEN YOU'RE GOING TO FIND YOURSELVES IN A MINORITY...
KEEP WRITING A GREAT MAG. I LOOK FORWARD TO NUMBER 5...IF ANYBODY WANTS TO
WRITE TO ME THEN CONTACT IS ON....
RICHARD HOUGHTON WHITE STAR

EVERYBODY WELCOME. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEND A DISK. FRIENDSHIP ONLY.
PS: THE TITANIC SANK BECAUSE IT HIT AN ICEBERG...HI TO GRAYZOR OF SLIPSTREAM!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, here answering is Filippetto. Ok, we're agree with you about frienship
and so on. Anyway we think that not all the elite groups are discriminating
against the non-elite ones. And all the groups that are actually non-elite can
get a chance to become elite, or just to enter the scene. For example coding
a demo... Personally I answer to all letters with disks coz I'm not a
diskstealer and I also support the friendship movement, but remember that
sometimes the groups don't have enough time to answer to all the people and
this not coz they're discriminating against them but just coz they haven't
time! Of course big groups have priority over the little ones, but this is
a normal fact of the scene. Otherwise it would be a nonsense...
A new style of music... By Filippetto/Vega
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Amiga scene grows every day, and much people like to compose music with
the most famous programs like Noisetracker, Startrekker, Future Composer,
Sidmon and others. In most cases the songs are similar, expecially the bass
patterns and the melodies. The used chords are always major and minor simple
chords, and this in my opinion is a big limit for the Amiga music. The funny
thing is that it doesn't depend on the Amiga hardware limit, but on the lack
of fantasy of the musicians. Of course it could be a problem of musical tastes
and influences, but anyway in my opinion there are just a few musicians who
tried to make a change to t hese Amiga-music s tandards, for example Bruno of
Gate, Nightlight of Kefrens, Walkman of CRB, Romeo Knight of RSI and Zzzax
of Timecircle plus others... Now why don't you try to change the style of your
music? If you always put major and minors chords but you would like to change,
here there are a few tips to help ya.
- If you know music, you should know that there are some really suggestive
chords like 7+, m7, 7/9, 7/5b, and also 6. Now you have many chances to
create such chords. The first and best way is to digitize them directly
from a keyboard like M1, T3, D10 and so on. With this system you can have
also the sound you prefer coz of course you can digitize the chord with
piano, strings, synths and so on.
If you don't have the chance to digitize chords, the most used way is
generally to use the usual major and minor chords in a different way.
This way is to change the bass pattern. For example, if you have a
sequence with:
Bass Chord
E E maj
F F maj
Try to change it into:
Bass Chord
E E maj
E F maj
And you will see that the obtained sound is strange but effective, and
different. With this system, used both with major and minor chords, you can
obtain many particular chords: m7, 7+ and so on. With the combination of 2
chords and the bass you will have even more choices.
- To make an incisive tune you should take care of the rhythm section. So
try to make "real" drum sequences with many fill-ins and with accents in
the hi-hat sequences. Even better if you add crashes, rides and toms.
Also the bass sequence should be very good. Try to balance low and high
notes in the sequence, and never make sequences like E-1 --- E-1 --- E-1
--- E-1 --- and so on. Try to change the space between 1 note and the
following so to obtain a various sequence.
(continues in next article)
(continues from previous article)
Moreover, if you use a normal or a fretless bass for the bass sequence, try
to put volume slides, sudden stops (turn the volume to 0 with the C command)
and note slides so to obtain fretless effects.
- For the melody, you can make a singable part generally with some synths, but
there are lots of ways of making the melody. Also in the melody the volume
and note slides are very important. The most difficult melodies to compose
are the solo parts, expecially if they are made with guitar. The guitar is
really difficult to imitate with keyboards, and particularly with the Amiga!
- If you make chip music, the best way to make a different style is to use the
major and minor chords as explained in point 2. You have not many chances to
compose an exciting music, but anyway it can be an interesting tune.
These were my opinions and tips about all the Amiga music. I listen to a lot
of music and I also play drums in a funky group, so I use to listen to lots of
chords and I think that Amiga is not a limit if you're a really creative
musician. Anyway if you're a musician and you want to swap songs or
experiences, just write to me. You find the address in the addresses article,
since I'm the main editor here (hehe)...
TO WHAT THE SCENE WENT TO! (Hellraiser/Defcon 1)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Folx! This is Hellraiser of Defcon One writing an article about the Amiga
in the earlier years and today. Surely all guys who have their Amiga 2 or more
years know the good old Amiga times. There were only a few groups on this ma-
chine. Some like: Bamiga Sector One & The Kent Team, Red Sector Inc., Hotline,
HQC etc. Of course there were also some unknown freaks. These guys mostly play-
ed games and they weren't able or couldn't do some action with their computer.
As they got bored by playing almost the same games, they put their money toge-
ther and went into their local software shop. As they saw the high prices of
the computer programms they run out with a heart attack and breathing for
fresh air. Because of not enough money they got the idea to swap with some of
their friends in town or outside. They all knowed themselfes and had a very hot
and cool time on this machine. Suddenly the Amiga got famous and more and more
freaks sold their old computers to buy a new one. This was the point where the
real Amiga scene was born. There also came some cracker and demo groups wich
released some cool warez. And again more and more people bought an Amiga and
the men wanted to get an image as like the cracker and demo crews. They said
that if they had the newest and best stuff they would get a better and higher
image. So, these guys only wanted to be the fastest and bought cracks from
the cracker groups. The friendship was lost. The swappers only wrote small and
short letters, coz they hadn't got time. They all wanted to be the fastest. The
first wars between some groups appeared and the scene was growing and growing.
Big groups sold their releases to the stupid lamers who used their whole money
to buy some games. Now we are at the same point. The most groups only know one
word. This word is 'BUSINESS'. The groups sometimes relase 5 different cracks
and only one of them is working 100 percent! There are also some new things,
like the modems. Every third (ex)-mailtraider is buying his own modem to get
the stuff as fast as possible. I have nothing against fast imports, but I will
ask ya know: 'Where the hell is the friendship ?'. The small groups put rumours
about the famous groups in the world. Only because they hadn't had the success.
I hope that ya guys outthere will think about the text. We have to do anything
against those guys who destroy the scene. And please remember that it's so stu-
pid to try to make 'PEACE' with a 'WAR'! Quality before quantity!

Well, here we are again. As you maybe know, some changes happened. The german
section of Amaze is dead, Bomber and Pinhead joined Anarchy and I (Filippetto)
founded a new group called Vega. So since I am the main editor of this magazine
I decided to continue the publishing under the new label. This time we received
a lot of articles! So we thank you a lot for your cooperation. Due to the high
number of articles we received, it wasn't possible to put them all in this
issue, so some articles and adverts will appear in the next Issue. As you can
see I did some improvements in the coding, but I'm thinking to change more
things in the next issue. Of course your opinions and tips also about the mag's
design and coding are accepted...
Have fun with this issue and see you all soon!

HOW TO SEND
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
** To receive the mag **
The rules to receive the mag changed. This bcoz since the last issue I
(Filippetto) received something like 50 extra disks but had to pay a lot of
money to send back the magazine to all people who ordered it. So from now the
new rules are:
- Send 1 checked disk,
your address and
5.- DM or
5.00 F or
3 $ or
4000 L
** To send articles **
Write articles with a Text editor like TxEd, QEd, Cygnus or something like
that, then send your works to the address you see above. We are always
searching for good article writers and cool guys who can write articles but
also reports, interviews and tips and want to join our staff.
** To send advertisements/job offers-requests **
Advertisements and job offers-requests are free. We prefer advertisements on
disk, designed with a text editor. Note that in this issue some adverts havent
been published for some reasons like unreadable handwriting. So here are some
hints...
- If you send a paper advert,
write with a readable handwriting
- Never send advertisements for
selling games and VHS movies! Only
swapping!

AND OF COURSE LOTS OF BOOOOOZE! AFTER SOME PLAYING OF NEW WAREZ AND WHEN
EVERYONE HAD ARRIVED WE STARTED ON THE BOOZE. AFTER LOTS OF BOOZE MOST OF US
STARTED TO FEEL THE EFFECTS...MANDRAKE AND ME WERE TOTALLY BLITZED AND DAN WAS
MILDY GONE. BRONX WARRIOR WAS GETTING TREED ON CHERRY SEVEN UP AND A LAME
MOTHERFUCKER C64 OWNER CALLED PSYCHO USA WHO WE ONCE WENT TO SCHOOL WITH KEPT
RINGING UP TO SEE IF HE COULD COME DOWN. OF COURSE WE DENIED HIM THIS FUCKING
COOL PRIVILEDGE COS WE ALL FUCKING HATE HIM. (U CAN HATE HIM TOO IF YOU LIKE.
RING THIS NUMBER AND GIVE LOTS OF ABUSE: +44 0524 52121..DO IT NOW!) ANYWAY,
WE ALL STARTED TO KIP ABOUT 2 IN THE MORNING IN ALL DIFFERENT PLACES. I COULD
HAVE SLEPT IN MY BED BUT INSTEAD I CHOSE THE FLOOR (?!). MANDRAKE SLEPT WHERE
HE FELL AND EVERYONE ELSE CHOSE EQUALLY WEIRD PLACES TO HAVE A SHIT NIGHTS
SLEEP. AT 9:30 IN T HE MORNING THE POST ARRIVED, AS I WAS AWAKE I WENT AND
COLLECTED IT AND THOUGHT "IF I'M AWAKE THEN THOSE BASTARDS WILL HAVE TO WAKE
UP TOO!" AND WENT AND GOT THEM ALL UP!!! HA HA HA!! AFTER CHECKING THE COOL
WAREZ IN THE POST I FELT TOTALLY SHIT AND IT TOOK ONLY 3 HOURS TO RECOVER!!
I SPENT A WHILE IN THE BATHROOM GETTING A WASH ETC. MEANWHILE MANDRAKE WOULDNT
OPEN THE CURTAINS COS HIS HEADACHE WAS REALLY BAD (HA!). WHEN I WAS CLEANED UP
THAT LAMER SHITBAG PSYCHO USGAY RANG UP AGAIN ASKING TO COME DOWN. MY EXCUSES
WERE REAL COOL BUT I CANT REMEMBER THEM NOW COS I WAS REAL PISSED THAT NIGHT.
(COMING LATER!) ANYWAY, THE DAY PASSED WITH MANY VISITS TO THE SHOP FOR COKE
AND CRISPS. THAT NIGHT OUR COOL FRIEND LEAPING LLAMA CAME AND GOT FUCKING
PISSED ALONG WITH GONZO (TOTALLY WRECKED MAN!), AGENT X (CANT TAKE HIS BOOZE
ANYWAY), MANDRAKE AND MAGIC MUSHROOM. DAN WASN'T PISSED BUT I RECKON ALL THAT
CHERRY SEVEN UP GOT BRONX WARRIOR STONED (I DUNNO...) AS MOST GUYZ WERE
PLAYING MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE GONZO WAS STUMBLING AROUND SINGING THE TUNES....
(NOTHING LIKE THEM THOUGH.....). AFTER HE TIRED OF THIS HE DROPPED TO THE
FLOOR AND SLEPT. LEAPING LLAMA ALSO FELL TO THE FLOOR AND IMMEDIATLEY BECAME
UNCONSIOUS!!! WE WATCHED TV FOR A BIT AND DECIDED BED WAS MOST IMPORTANT!
THIS NIGHT I SLEPT IN MY BED, AGENT X ON MY BEDROOM FLOOR, MANDRAKE ON MY MUM
AND DADS BED, EVERYONE ELSE SLEPT ON THE FLOOR IN THE FRONT ROOM WHERE MOST HAD
DIED THE NIGHT BEFORE!! I WAS AWAKEN REAL EARLY THE NEXT DAY BY LEAPING LLAMA
WHO CAME IN MY ROOM AND CHUCKED A MASSIVE CUSHION AT AGENT X AND RAN DOWN
STAIRS LAUGHING LOUDLY. I GOT MYSELF SOME BREAKFAST AND DECIDED THAT IF ANYONE
ELSE WANTS SOME THEN THEY CAN MAKE IT THEMSELVES!! (OR BUY IT...COKE AND
CRISPS) ANYWAY..IT WAS SUNDAY...I HAD A WASH AGAIN AND BY 10 O CLOCK WE WERE
ALL BACK ON THE BOOZE! I WAS PISSED BY ABOUT 12 O CLOCK AND TRIED TO GET
EVERYONE TO CLEAN UP (NOT VERY SUCCESSFUL). ME AND BRONXY DID MOST OF THE WORK
AND WHEN NEARLY EVERYTHING WAS DONE GONZO LEFT, THEN DAN, THEN BRONXY AND AGENT
X. THIS LEFT ME, MANDRAKE AND A VERY STONED LEAPING LLAMA. HE SOBERED UP AND
EVERYTHING WAS NEAT AGAIN. THOSE 2 GUYS LEFT AND THE MUCH ENJOYED WEEKEND WAS
OVER!!!! NEXT TIME MY MUM AND DAD GO AWAY WE WILL HOLD A SEQUEL PARTY TO THIS
AND IT WILL BE EVEN BETTER!!
IBM...Poeha or Serious??? By The Fox/Pussy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advantages and disadvantages of IBM contra AMIGA
In this article there will be some advantages and disadvantages of IBM's and
Amiga's given. It is not the meaning to give them all, because then we would
the whole diskmag probably, but it is the meaning that we give some to make
a differenc e between those two computers, and then to decide wether IBM or
Amiga is to be quoted as the best...
Advantages of IBM
- Utilities :
Utilities on IBM are mostly easier to understand and therefor user-
friendlier. It isn't because IBM-utilities are resonnably simple
that Amiga-utilities are as hard as hell to understand, but still
there is a difference. Also IBM is the abbreviation for Industrial
Business Machine and that makes it simplier to believe that there are
more sorts of utilties and that they are better in a certain way.
For example: word-processing is still easier on IBM because almost
every time, the IBM word-processor uses draft-print and not gfx-print.
The negative side of this is of course that there is little or no
chance that you can use more then one font. But on the other hand
it's still simpler, specially for printing...
Amiga uses gfx-print many times and of course there are more possi-
bilities but then the shit starts dripping when you have to print...
- Commands :
On IBM, the shit starts when the computer is switched on or when a
reset is given. An IBM has to check the memory first, and then it has
to load all commands before you can start loading a file. Some see
that as a great disadvantage, some as an advantage because you can
use all commands even when they are not on the disk itself.
On Amiga, it is seen as a great job, that you have to put the
commands which are necessary on the disk itself everytime. But if
we want to make a difference here, we should also look to the way
software is loaded on IBM and on Amiga. On IBM, trackdisks don't
exist, and software is loaded at the prompt. On Amiga, everything
mostly starts whith a startup-sequence, and whith a menu.
Like that, you don't really need commands like dir, list, and so
on, but you always need some commands which you have to put on the
disk itself...
(continues in next article)
(continues from previous article)
Also it would be impossible to load all commands whenever the three
magic buttons are pushed on the Amiga keyboard.
It is very hard to say which computer, IBM or Amiga, is best on
this point of view when we keep everything in mind...
But still there is a difference: some commands on IBM like unerase,
unformat a disk or a harddisk, ... don't exist on Amiga...
Also there is the difference in the time in which the command is
executed. Asking a directory of the files on an Amiga disk takes
a resonnable time, but on IBM it appears shortly after giving the
right command. This is of course something that happens because
the commands on IBM are loaded resident and on Amiga, first the
command has to be loaded and then it can be executed...
Therefor, about the commands, I would say the IBM is the better
one...
- Prices ??:
The comparing of the prices between IBM and Amiga is a big job.
Not only because there are over 1000 different IBM's, and there's
only one Commodore Amiga but also because the prices of an Amiga
stays resonnably stable and those of an IBM are downing very fast.
Maybe it is because the Amiga is better and therefor more sold then
IBM's that the prices are downing? But anyway, now you can buy
an IBM for about 500$ (monitor included) and an Amiga for about 550$
(without monitor). An Amiga monitor costs about 250$ over here, in
Belgium that is. The problem with buying an IBM is that it is hard
to choose a computer from which you know it's good and which isn't too
costy...
Disadvantages of IBM - Advantages of Amiga
- Sound:
In an IBM-pack there is a lmost never forseen that you want to make
better music then just go beep-beep-beep. And if you don't want
to go beep-beep from all the beep-beep that comes out of your
IBM, you have to buy an additional sound-card!! Having in mind that
such a piece of toy costs another 300$, you start to thing why they
didn't do like the Amiga builders: just put a chip from a hi-tech
Synthesizer like a Yamaha 200 in it!! But no, an IBM isn't a piece
of show; an IBM is serious (hahaha)!! So, I'd say there is a lttle,
a big or let's say a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE between IBM and AMIGA!!
For those of you who didn't yet understand it; I repeat:
AMIGA-SOUND is HEAVEN's SOUND!!
(continues in next article)
(continues from previous article)
- Colours:
Colour-card in IBM-packs are probably banned by law in Belgium,
because I haven't seen one pack with a colour card+monitor...
So, the same thing counts here also: if you want them, BUY THEM.
And again (I'm repeating myself) you have to buy an additional
card AND monitor to get 4, 16, or even 256 colours (it is indeed
strange that an Amiga has a range of over 4000 colours, without
having to pay for them !!!)
I don't want to say that IBM hasn't got any possibility for making
a picture, Black and White pictures can be nice too!!!
SO, is Amiga better concerning colours??? (have a guess!!!)
- Games:
No comment ???
It is pretty obvious that Amiga has better games then IBM if you have
read the upper two advantages of Amiga, don't you agree??? The
possibilities of GFX and sound are so much higher then those of the
IBM...
- Diskspace:
The Amiga has the strange quality that there is as much space on
a 5.25" disk as on a 3.50" disk. And even then there is still more
place on a Amiga disk then on a IBM-disk!!! (IBM=720K-AMIGA=835k)
So, that is about all there is to say... But let's face it: Amiga is still the
best computer on earth. And if we put all facts, advantages and disadvantages,
concerning IBM's on one row, then they would better use them for typing
letters!!! I hope you liked reading it; there are still some facts impossible
for me to quote (for instance coding); but anyway I'm saying goobye to you
all...
DIARY OF A MADMAN By Awcy/Clones
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
7:00 AM: I GET UP AND TAKE A SHOWER. I GET THE NEWSPAPER FROM THE POSTBOX
AND MAKE SOME SANDWICHES TO EAT. AFTER EATING AND READING IT'S
TIME TO GET TO TOILET... TO SHIT OF COURSE!
7:39 AM: I RUN TO THE BUS STOP TO GO TO SCHOOL...
7:52 AM: IN THE SCHOOL. I MEET MY PALS AND WE START SPEAKING BULLSHIT
ABOUT EVERYTHING.
8:00 -
11:40 AM: THE FIRST LESSON IS FOR GETTING AWAKE. THE LESSONS ARE BORING AND
MOST OF THE TIME I SPEAK A LOT OF BULLSHIT AND GET SOME WARNINGS
FROM THE TEACHERS TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT. WHAT WOULD THIS SCHOOL
BE WITHOUT HUMOUR?
11:42 AM: TIME TO EAT! GOOD OLD FINNISH SYSTEM PROVIDES US A PROPER (WE
THINK IT'S ANYTHING ELSE THAN PROPER...) MEAL. SOME USEFUL
JOKES: PLAYING BASEBALL WITH MEATBALLS AND SPOONS, SPEAKING
ABOUT GUTS OF A CHICKEN OR SOME ANIMAL WHEN EATING (USEFUL
FOR GETTING MORE FOOD FROM GIRLS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR APPETITE)
AND OF COURSE LAUGHING MANIACLY FOR TEN MINUTES AND AFTER THAT
WONDERING WHY'S EVERYBODY LOOKING AT ME? (WEIRD...)
12:15 -
15:00 PM: SOME MORE LESSONS TO GET THE 'EDUCATION'. USUALLY VERY SLEEPY
AFTER THE HEAVY MEAL. USEFUL PERIOD TO GAIN STRENGTH BY SLEEPING
ON THE TABLE. ANYWAY, THIS SCHOOL IS REALLY FREE...
15:02 PM: I RUN TO THE BUS STOP TO GET BACK HOME. ANOTHER JOURNEY WITH 50
OTHER PEOPLE IN THE SAME BUS.
15:15 PM: I ARRIVE HOME, CHECK POSTE RESTANTE, EAT SOMETHING AND THEN TAKE
A LOOK AT THE ARRIVED STUFF. (USUALLY BLOODY STUPID GAMES)
16:45 PM: I EAT A MEAL AND FALL ASLEEP (REALLY WEIRD DREAMS)
18:50 PM: I WAKE UP AND FEEL REALLY CONFUSED. WHERE AM I? THEN I GO AT
BRAINIE'S PLACE TO LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC AND TO SPEAK BULLSHIT
WITH BRAINIE AND TO CHECK THE STUFF HE'S GOT.
20:50 PM: I RETURN HOME REALLY TIRED. I LAY ON THE SOFA AND WATCH TV FOR
SOME HOURS. OF COURSE A LITTLE BIT OF FOOD WOULDN'T DO BAD...
23:20 PM -
01:40 AM: I GO TO BED. GOTTA TAKE A LITTLE NAP BEFORE A NEW DAY IN SCHOOL.
GOOD NIGHT, PALS!
DEPECHE MODE - A REVIEW By A-ha/Res.101
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During the last ten years, the Depeche Mode published nine albums, and made
themselves a name as one of the best techno groups of the Eighties. We will now
try and make a little review of each of these masterpieces of today's music:
SPEAK AND SPELL - 1981
This was their introductory album, and is characterized by very raw and simple
synth tracks - synths you can now find on Amiga sound better than those! The
composition of almost everything was done by now-Erasure Vince Clarke, except
two tracks by M.Gore. Those songs sound all very much alike in the instruments,
but some of them are really good (Photographics, Just Cant Get Enough, New Life
Puppets), as some of them are nothing interesting (I Sometimes Wish.., Boys Say
Go, Nodisco). The cover photo was shot by Brian Griffin, who started then a long
to be co-op with the DM.
A BROKEN FRAME - 1982
Since Vince Clarke's departure, the DM had a moment of pain... In fact, songs
were always composed by Clarke, though M. Gore could do that too. So, when he
left off, the three remaining guys wanted to show the world that they could
live, and so refused a ready song Clarke offered them as a gift and started
working really hard. It was not easy, because Clarke started the composition
works from a riff he liked, and then made it a song and added random words, and
Gore instead starts from writing the lyrics and then builds the music. The album
'starts with the real best song on it, Leave in Silence, which has a truly
adult musical line and it's a hi quality song; it's so far away from Speak and
Spell's songs! The album is somehow sloppy, I mean some songs show the way the
DM will follow in future (Leave in Silence, Monument, Nothing to Fear, The Sun&
The Rainfall), other are nothing but hit shit tracks (The Meaning Of Love, A
Photograph Of You). The sleeve was again designed by Brian Griffin, and won the
'Best of 1982 award.
CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN - 1983
During their first world tour, the DM stayed a little in Hong Kong and in
Bangkok. Seeing from live the hard life a load of people do, they started
talking about equal rights and socialism, and this gave a very strong footstep
'to Construction. In fact, in at least six songs of this album can be found
hints about how to change the world. This album is a tipical example of the
German Industrial period of the DM, due to a large use of metallic samples
everywhere, mixed with soft analog sounds by the Roland Jupiter 8. I think this
album is brill, and represents a stone in the musical scene of the 1st part of
the eighties.
SOME GREAT REWARD - 1984
In this album also, a large use of samples is being done, thus making it a very
good one for guys who like it. This album is to remember for the best songs in
it and the rumours they made spread; in fact, the Church and other stupid guys
'fought against Master and Servant (a song about submission) and Blasphemous
'Rumours (God and his sense of humour). I think all of the tracks contained in
this album are to be remembered and liked, it's for sure one of the greatest
album the Mode ever did. It had a good succeess because it also contained easy
tracks, and everywhere but in Englad it was greatly sold. (see next article)
(continues from previous article)
THE SINGLES - 1985
In 1984, the DM announced that they would not produce anything the following
year. So this is only a compo of oldies that were released previously.
BLACK CELEBRATION - 1986
Ha! Here we are! This is the best DM album ever. It is about love in the so
called space age, and contains great tracks such as Black Celebration, A
Question of Lust, It Does Not Matter 2, A Question Of Time, Here is The House
and Dressed in Black. It also contains a song about how foolish the press is,
'New Dress. The most of this record is obtained thru analog sounds, giving it
deep and soft sounds no sampler can match. Melodies are complex, no more
metallic sounds around, lyrics are introspective and the result is fab. Nothing
short of superb.
MUSIC FOR THE MASSES - 1987
The most famous song contained in this not so good album is Never Let Me Down,
whose name was changed adding the word 'Again' due to David Bowie's song. It is
a song about friendship and LSD,and it's one of their biggest successes ever in
sales. I said that album is not so good because some tracks are mixed without
taking too much care, and that's strange for the DM. Also, no new ideas are
featured, except better drum tracks. Over all, not so good a production, except
Never Let Me Down Again and To Have and To Hold.
101 - 1989
This album made the DM get back to their chart topping attitude. It registered
great sales everywhere, even in England, and it's one of the best ever. It was
recorded live at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on June 18th 1988, in front of about
'80000 people. I love it because it makes you hear the Depeches in a far away
way from the one you are used to. Also, it sounds like the people there in
Pasadena liked that 'live' a lot!
Violator - 1990
This is their latest album, and again it has changed their sound. It is a very
clean album, where everything is almost perfect, and they took a lot of care on
everything. From a musical point of view it's highly complex, due to today's
'best in sound generation, but the overall result is a bit cold, reminding me
to Speak and Spell's athmosphere. All tracks are good and 'adult', minimal as
they should be though their complexity can hardly be improved. Highly
professional, but maybe not as listenable as Black Celebration. Best tracks:
World In My Eyes, Personal Jesus, Waiting For The Night, Enjoy The Silence,
policy of Truth, Clean (the very best!).
That's it. Hope you liked. If you like the DM, or would like to swap anything
about them, feel free to contact me under Fermi 5, I-21100 VA, Italy. See you
all mates!

ABOUT DICK TRACY By Nikeman/Res.101
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warren Beatty and his rich crew of actors has landed in Venice at the movie
competition of the homonymous city, presenting his last masterpiece, inspired by
the wellknown comic character: Dick Tracy. Well there isn't much to say about
the famous jaw-squared detective, the leading character of the lucky comic
series born in the States in 1931. On the contrary the movie has been widely
criticized, not only by the refined audience of Venice, but also by the
connoisseurs of the environment of the cinema, that have given prominence to
the brightly evidence that this movie has been carried out with very low costs.
Warrenboy has infact substituted D. Tracy's spitfire with a spitdollars: just
consider that the film has been shot in just two months and not in seven as
affirmed by Beatty and that there aren't any type of mastodontic scenography
like in Spielberg's or Disney's prods, the plot is set infact in a few rooms.
The movie presents some modern innovations: it has been shot using a BW
film that has been subsequently colored with the help of the computer, just
with four colors avoiding the intermediate dyes for which the cost is rather
high. The result is that Beatty has more success as an accountant than as an
actor, he has calculated infact that he will totally regain the amount of
money spent for the production of the film in the 1st four hours of projection
of his movie. The expense is nearly of 30 mls of dollars but the real expense
for the movie is only of 10 milions of dollars the other import was spent for
the actors and the advertisement. Another indicative data is that Mr. Beatty
has already gained over 250 millions of dollars for the booking of the
original videotapes of "Dick Tracy". Nevertheless Warren Beatty doesn't appear
like the real main charater, infact the presence in the movie of two stars like
Al Pacino and Madonna contrast the brightness of Dick Tracy, we have infact the
same situation in Batman, where the part of the antagonist performed by the
great Jack Nicholson was more brillant of the main one performed by Michael
Keaton. In my opinion the movies like this, should be censured, cinema is not
yet the voice and the manifestation of an artistic inspiration but only a great
bargain for the producers. There're many interesting and unknown movies around
the world, and it's real simple to find then: it is sufficent to ignore the
stupid advertisements of these kinds of film and look for good movies by
ourselves, because the movies that have been widely advertised aim only to have
good takings and not to communicate something. So try to be a bit critic also
before entering the cinema.
