THE GATHERING '95' PARTY-REPORT
Once again......
I have heard that you should learn from your mistakes,
but I do NOT think this applies for The Gathering "crew".
The Gathering '92 was ok... '93 Sure... '94 Sad... '95 Worse...
LOCATION:
====================================================================
Why are they moving the party further and further away from central
Norway? TG'92 location was awesome compared to '95. We had to leave
on Friday cause during the Eastern weekend all trains were cancelled
and still we got home not until Sunday.
ARRIVAL:
====================================================================
When we arrived at the party location in Stavanger we checked in and
got ourselves some nice wristbands... Every year they say "badges" in
the leaflet. Are badges and wristbands the same thing in Norway??"
Then they sold votedisks for 10 NOK that you would get back when you
had voted. Later the disks were for free and no repayment for
anyone. They just looked suprised when I asked one of the "crew
members".
We got in, conquered a table and settled down to find "NO POWER".
This sounds familiar, like last year the power cords were NOT there
and it took 6 hours until we got it running.
ARCADES:

According to the leaflet, arcades should be placed somewhere in the
hall, but where? Should they take 5 days to find? I dont think so.
SLEEPING:
====================================================================
Well, entrance fee was 250 NOK and then there was a sleeping fee of
10 NOK for each night. After "a little while" they changed the fee
to 10 NOK for the whole week, after massive complaints. The leaflet
promised a fully heated sleeping hall. It was MAXIMUM 10 degrees in
there so I know that I caught a nice cold.
Sleeping inside the hall complex was of course not allowed "like last
year". Guards were walking around checking for sleeping persons.
One morning I entered a crew only area in the hall complex. That room
was FULL of sleeping crew members! The first night we got thrown out
from the same room, for sleeping.
FOOD:

The food was ok this year, if you like pizza and hamburgers, and are
willing to pay 55 NOK for a cheeseburger and some fries and then pay
15 NOK for something to drink. 70 NOK for a meal...
SPEAKERS:
====================================================================
Why can't they stick to English when using the hall speaker system?!
Many times they even mixed the language. The Gathering is supposed
to be an international party...
DEPARTURE:
====================================================================
Security check... we had to write down what we took with us... but
no-one checked our bags when we arrived so the security check was
just a waste of time.
RESUME:
====================================================================
The Gathering suxx. We thought they could never do the same mistakes
twice but they managed quite good with that. I hope that there will
be no more Gatherings with a crew like that. However, there is one
nice thing i can say about TG: they gave away OS/2 WARP Full CD
version for free. But it would have been cheaper for me to buy it.
It would be really nice if a crew memeber replied to this, maybe
they have some points.
