question of the week:
anyone ever noticed how we are what the
sociologists define by ever-growing global village?
someone should write sociological thesis on demoscene
last week reactions:

yes they should be seperated if there are
at least 5 entries per seperate compo.

Yes, unless there are not enough entries
to make it standalone compos. And if they
are combined, the public should be informed
what category the next demo should have been in,
so we can take that in account.

no. today demos are not limited by hardware
but by what people can archieve. and i don't
really see much difference today between those
two types of demos. java? take a look at godog
and other cool stuff and you'll agree that
there's not much difference either.
a good coder with good artists can make good
demos on every configuration (or bad ones).

It depends on how many entries there are for
the different platforms (Dos, Win, Linux, Java).
Because if all platforms have their own compo,
there will be to much compos at the party with
only a few entries each. For 3Dacc, I think they
have to compete in the same compo as non-3Dacc;
just mention it before the demo shows.

They should be separated, but not in the way
you suggest. I think separating into "ibm-x86",
"amiga/0x0/ppc" and perhaps "mac/0x0/ppc",
"playstation/?" is better, but all os for one
platform should compete in the same compo.

combine!! ever! everything should go into one
compo! Which prick ever thought of separating
by os or hardware?? eek! in a century which is
moving towards style and ideas (no i won't name
the controversial d- word here), which technique
is used to visualize those ideas is less important.
Compo organisers should just clearly state what
os/hardware/etc is used for the next demo
(like a screen with "Title: bla, Group: bla,
System: Win32, 3d acc" or something), in which
way an amiga demo performing q3a-quality 3d shows
will still show of bigtime because people KNOW
it was done on amiga. With a lack of entries one
could even think of combining 4k, 64k and democompos.
or ehm, well. 64k and demo at least, as coding them
is quite equally done, only the way resources are
used isn't. And about the quote 'big demoparties':
they don't exist anymore. the big parties have turned
into gamerparties, and sceners fled to smaller parties
making them bigger, but them still not being the real
big parties like there used to be, as people all
go to different smaller parties.
