XIAS FrontEnd v1.0
###############################################################################
About XIAS FrontEnd
###############################################################################
XIAS FrontEnd was written using Tcl/Tk in order to make interfacing
with the doc64 and ias-linux (from iceage@cableinet.co.uk) easier.
In order to use XIAS FrontEnd, you will be required to have both
"ias-linux", property of iceage@cableinet.co.uk and the Tcl/Tk program
"wish4.x". While the program should run with ANY version of Tcl/Tk, it
was written explicitly using Tcl7.6 and Tk4.2 running under Linux 2.0.20
and XFree86 3.3.
XIAS FrontEnd looks for "wish4.2" in your /usr/local/bin directory.
If you have it placed elsewhere, simply edit the "xias-1.0" program
with any editor, such as vi, and edit the first line to point to
where your "wish4.x" program is located. Also, since XIAS FrontEnd
executes "ias-linux", "ias-linux" should be placed somewhere in your
env(PATH). Typically found in /usr/local/bin or /usr/X11/bin.

Obtaining "ias-linux" and Tcl/Tk
###############################################################################
If you do not have a copy of "ias-linux", go to "http://www.dextrose.com"
or go to IceAges own web page at http://wkweb4.cableinet.co.uk/toril/iceage
If you require the Tcl/Tk program, go to "http://www.sco.com/Technology/tcl"

USING XIAS FrontEnd v1.0
###############################################################################
Since XIAS FrontEnd does nothing more than pass command line arguments to
"ias-linux", there is nothing special you should know. PLEASE read the
manual.txt file that comes with "ias-linux" for detailed instructions on
how to use "ias-linux". Once you understand how "ias-linux" works, you
will have no problems using the frontend program.
There are a couple of things however that XIAS FrontEnd does that you
should know. I was not able to reliably and effectively pass resulting
information from "ias-linux" to XIAS FrontEnd. What this means is that
status updates on execution is non-existent. However, if you notice the
TITLE BAR of the feature you are executing, it will tell you when the
FrontEnd is busy waiting for "ias-linux" to complete the task and then
also inform you of when that task is complete. This does however produce
an undesireable effect. If you move the the application around, or perform
other work, you may block out the graphics of XIAS FrontEnd. This is due
to the fact that XIAS FrontEnd goes into limbo land waiting for "ias-linux"
to complete its task and will not refresh itself.
One other thing I noticed about "ias-linux" is that I had problems getting
bios upgrades to be passed correctly from "ias-linux" to the doc64. "ias-linux"
reports the bios as being an invalid image. I don't know if it was me or
a bug in "ias-linux". But fear not, "ias-linux" does correctly patch the
bios and you can simply use "upload64" in which there is also a frontend
program I have written for it called "XUpload64".

Additional Notes
###############################################################################
WARNING!!! I take no responsibility for any damages wich may be caused
to your system. While I have tested it like mad on my system, I make
no guarantees.
Also, as of right now, I have no plans on expanding the capabilities of
XIAS FrontEnd. It is at version 1.0 and will probably remain so unless
there is another version of "ias-linux" which has some features that I feel I
could use or if there are enough requests for a particular feature. I may also
release another version if I decide to fix the code up some more. It all depends
on how much time I have.
If there are any questions regarding the use of XIAS FrontEnd, or requests,
you can catch me on IRC on the #doctor64 channel.
My special thanks goes out to iceage@cableinet.co.uk for writing the "ias-linux"
utility which I desparately needed.. :)
