For those of you who havent switched off already it is a great little package that has some realy powerful functions. I admit that it is no compotition on packages such as Asmone and Devpac. It must be a very powerful language never the less. So what do i want to talk about? Ah yes. Well it is this. Alot of groups i have talked to in the past h7dont like AMOS. Its not because they think it is turd but because most crews use MC (machine code!). Now heres some points i want you to consider. 1. For those of you that are starting on the Amiga it is a great package to start the aspects of code. And for those who dont want to delve striaght into MC,which is very daunting for beginners it can be a great start. It can help you to figure out to do routines such as UB bobs,Vectors,Spray out text displayers, F Fonts aQŶnd all sorts of other stuff without going into MC. It is A great help and quite a few GOOD groups use it. 2. It has already got a great amount of software released using it. There are packages and Art packeages that do challange D-Paint,Just look at Picturesque, this package has features that arnt even available on D-Paint 4 !! 3. It is a quick and easy form of releasing demos so you dont have to code every little thing. Large memory moving functions are supporBC+=ted and many routines are self contained on their own right! So why not give AMOS users a chance. There is great potential there and with the Compiler and 3D additions the world of AMOS can surely not be ignored. It might breath the breath of life into the scene that it needs. Minion / The Touch """""""""""""""""" very daunting for beginners it can be a great start. That is until he came across a man in a dark alley one day. Let me enlighten you to my way of thinking. Daryl walks out of work after a hard day. He is a hard working guy. He sweats and toils all day just to pay to go to college and better himself in the eyes of others. He has a great amount of pressure from his parents to do better than them, You know the sort. They made a mess 3WMof their lives by failing their education and they put a great amount of pressure on their ofspring to do better than they did. This isnt as bad as it is made out but Daryl dosnt look at it as a way of bettering himself. He thinks of it as a means of torture,His parents are forcing him to do something that he dosent want. He walks the same way home to his parents house as he always does but this time he takes a short cut towards the old church near where he lives. He walks down a dimXIly lit enclosed alley. There is a faint light at the end of the alley. His mind is focused on this point of light when his thoughts are invaded by a voice beconing him. He stops and turns to stand face to face with a man dressed in a long rain coat and a hat. Daryl cannot seee the mans face well so he looks at the void in which the mans face should be. The man speaks in a deep but reasureing voice. Daryl hears the word "L.S.D" spoken several times in the sentance the figure says. Dar2i]6yl quickly works out that the man is a pusher and he tenses up. By now Daryl can see the mans face, as he speaks the small amount of light in the alley reflects of the mans face and shows that he has small features and pearcing eyes that look right into daryl. He cannot resist. Daryl has just been payed. He needs an escape, some means of getting away from the pressures of his life. He hands out a crisp clean note and the man takes it and places a small piece of paper in daryls hand. UThen The man disepears into the shadows as quickly as he appered. Daryl looks at the paper and he can see a small symbol on it. The paper is so small that you could loose it in a breath of wind. later, Daryl locks himself in his bedroom. It is late and his parents have gone out to the cinema. They will be gone for hours. Daryl looks again at the paper. He feels a tense fear flowing inside of him. As if he were on a cliff just about to fall to the rocks below. Well daryl thinks of g(his life as the cliff and his parents are the ones that are pushing him of the cliff of life.He places the paper on his tongue and swallows. Nothing happens. In a way he is releived and in another way he is not. he looks at the walls of his room and falls back on his bed. He falls asleep. Later still, daryl wakes and his eyes follow a light in the room the light moves closer to him until he is blinded by the white light of the light point. He brushes it away and several spheres apear Ȑ7and float around the room as if bobbing on the sea. he gets up and tries to touch each one but as he does they move away as quickly as he touches them. They fade away and fly out of his rooms window. He sits looking at a iron Maiden poster. He thinks to himself about all of his life and he wonders if it is worth living anymore. It is open. and he moves towards it. he looks out and on the street below there has been an accident. The man who daryl spoke to earlier, the p +usher had been knocked down and the body of the man layed there looking up at daryl. daryl suddenly thinks to himself how lucky he is. Daryl never argued with his parents anymore, from that moment on daryl did his best. But every time he felt like it wasnt worth living he remembered the mans face and the spheres. What have they got to do with each other. Well of course BBS`s are the only good way of spreading the warez from Cracker groups. But this leaves the BBS's Vunerable. You know what i mean. You must have noticed that there have been a hell of a lot of BBS busts lately in Germany and Scandanavia! So why are they being busted. Yes pirating is a very big problem in the scene at the moment and it is going to destroy the scene. Well they could turn their talents to demo coding as most crackers could become a great set of coders. And houses such as The company and Crystal have already got great coders. A message to all crackers out there. You have to be sensible , I dont think you realise what you are doing to the scene. You are destroying it. Listen to this. A company releases a game and a cracker releases it so the company gets not a lot ofao money so the company has to turn to other systems or shut down. So then eventually when you have killed off all the companies noone will buy an amiga because we have to admit everyone bought their amiga for games at first. Then Serious software houses wont make stuff for the computer as there is no growing scene. And guess what. All these crackers will leave the scene to go to another computer to ruin that. In the Old days things were being discovered . New innovations were being made .Things were generally more interesting. Now adays everything that can be done has been done and there are no new things to do . Ok a few guys have the odd spurt of inspiration but what it boils down to nowadays is the music disks,vectt4or demos, unlimited bobs or plots and it is getting very tedious. How about more big animation demos or stuff like that. A good example of a great animation which just everyone must have seen is Hardwired by Crionics and Silents. This animation is a really professional animation and a big well done must go to Sionic. Well another thing is the amount of disks that demos and games come on now. Oddesey takes up 5 disks and monkey island 2 takes up 11 Disksg! Bleedin hell whats next a demo that takes up 20 disks and features a pre calculated 5000 frame ray traced animation. Ok that would be cool a 5000 frame ray traced animation but the amount of disks that demos come on now are ridiculous! Which brings me onto another subject. Why dont people make little demos and intros anymore? You know the type the small scrolly Bobs,Logo,Music n maybe a vector or two demo. All on 1 screen and not on several different sGcreens. You must admit that Things have been getting a bit boring lately. So how about it guys. More nice little intros n stuff and the occasional big demo that dosent take up millions of disks. Minion / The Touch """""""""""""""""" 95Q02aumv5Q028u%H Vector Objects """""""""""""" Yes, its time to talk about those notorious vector objects which are almost garenteed to appear in every Demo ever released. But what i want to know is Why? do they appear in an ever increasing amount of demos. Yeah, sure, they're hard to code, and give YOU (the coder) a sense of acheivement when you've finished it, but to the viewer of the demo, they've seen it 100's of times before, in as many demo's.Be it light-sourced vectors, rubber#z vectors, or glenz vectors, they have all been seen before,(And most of them look exactly like eachother). So why haven't groups caught onto the fact that personally me (And others?....) don't wish to see the usual boring objects, like squares, hexagons, dodecahedrens, etc. Some vectors are, however, very impressive, like massive spaceships , with lightsource (Devils..) and others, so why can't groups design more interesting objects, surely it can't be that hard to think of other objects rather than cubes? (Like telephones, bog roles, etc) The number of objects is imense! (And it would make the demo more interesting, which I'm sure the viewer would apreciate). Combined with say, RGB light-sourcing,and a fast screen update, would look quite cool and DIFFERENT!!. These days, originality is THE key to a group or demo's success. Every thing has been done already, but improving, and varying old routines is the only way to get your code to7H1 stand out, even if it is only a small variation....Anyway, back to vectors .Basically, I'm getting sickand tired of seeing the same vectors , with different music, and graphics. """""""""""""""""""""""""" Now, I have often wondered about why the amiga is the only machine that has a decent scene. There are many other machines, but why is the Amiga most suited for a scene. The C64 had(has?) a scene, but all the demo's on it are soooo similar, atari also have a scene, but like the machine , it is going to drop dead very soon. The Archamedies has a small scene, but nothing has been released which is using the mr Machines capabilities, and the groups tend to be very " square " ( to use the best word i can think of ). The scene originally started many many moons ago on the C64 where many demo's( Virtually all looking the same), kept being released, with their classic music . The scene grew bigger, and groups began to realise that they had pushed their machine to the limits it could cope with, so it was time to start to look for a new possible machine. Now thKIe C64 is the top of the range for the 8 bits, so the only logical jump was to go to a 16bit machine, and the obvious predecesour was the atari ( The Amiga hadn't been released yet), so many guys got the Atari, and started to code on it. They all thought that they had got the perfect machine, and quite a big scene had grown , until Commodore unleashed their answer to the Atari, The Amiga. Many guys suddenly realised that IT was the machine to get, having far sup~]herior capabilities to the now humble Atari ST. This is where the 16 bit fight ensued, with each clan slagging the other one off , but gradually, the Amiga began to come out on top, wiith its capabilities being far better than the ST's. The ST is near dead now, but what does the future hold? Well, the next step from the 16 bitters is the 32 bitters but there is another problem to the 32 bits. They are far more complex , and because people will want to @^Lshow off its capabilities, it will take AGES to do anything. Think how long it takes to do something on the Amiga? Quite along time, yeah? Well, think of what would be available to you on 32bit machines.Loads, new effects here we come. And think of the graphics, Ultra high resolutions, which would give the pixler hastle, as drawing stuff in high-res is hard enough, but these resolutions would be higher than that!! Masses of time would be used up, for the code, gfx, et al , inN,fact, too much time, I fear, so much time that a scene would not, or infact COULD NOT form. So I wonder and wait, and hope that the future is in the scene's favour. By Cryton Of Apocalypse """""""""""""""""""" all looking the same), kept being released, with their classic music . A pencil to write on the disks with, so when your contacts have already got the game/demo, they can rub it off.... 4. Tippex. You labed the disk with the pen didn't you, clot! 5. Billions of different sized jiffy bags, so you can stick them on your head, and pretend to be the Pope (They're also quite handy for putting disks in, to send to people as well) 6. Sticky backed paper - So you can re-use the same jiffy bag 200 N$^times, and write things on it to the postman, like "Remember This","Deja vu?", and "Bollox" (Or something) 7. An extra disk drive - Don't you just hate swapping the little basts over, just in mid sentance, so you forget what you were going to write, and end up writing something which doesn't make any sense at all. 8. A copier - Preferably don't use Workbench , and get a copier that doesn't crash if it finds an error on one of the tracks. (Usualo+(ly crashes when it is writing the first track to the destination, so you are forced to re-copy the source all over again - Single drives only) 9. A meg - so you can bang the table , and get a guru at the most inconveinant time possible, because the meg virtually jumps out the computer. 10.A mouse - so the button refuses to work, so you hit it (Or headbutt it, or something) which results in a guru coz of No 9. 11.A radio - soRܢ you can write "Bass", "Boogie", And "Right on!", in your letters, to annoy your correspondant, and generally make it look like you've written alot. 12.Ear muffs - you've got the radio on too loud , and you can't concentrate, can you?? 13.Contacts - There's no point on sending yourself letters, disks, but atleast then it'll look like your well popular with the scene members, when your liked as much as Jeremy Beadle. 14.A cupboard - so you can put all your letters amd jiffy bags in. (Also so you can search through it for 20 minutes, trying to find a letter you were to reply to, only to realise its in your back pocket Thats about it really , so go and get going, turn yourself into a machine, but watch out, posting a sofa to finland is not only very expensive, but it won't go through the postbox,(so cut it up, and send it in bits....) Cryton / Apocolypse """"""""""""""""""" - so J5QH025u8 MegaDemo's And Trackmo's -======================- If you have noticed , recently, there has been a distinct lack of MegaDemos/Trackmo's. Why? All I have been bombarded with is Intro compilation, with rather crap, unoriginal intro's on them. What ever happened to groups releasing great Megademo's And brilliant Trackmo's? I haven't seen one of them for ages.In this text i shall explore the possible reasons for this lack of new Good stuff. 1. A distrabution problem : Recently , many boards have been shut down in Germany (And other countries , i beleive), because of police problems, and because of the massive phone bills the sysops ring up. Groups mainly rely on modem traders to get their new demo into other countries, and then spread them, thus making the group more well known. No modem=No spread=Not More well Known. Mind you , having said this, even if boards had closed down, etc, I'm sure that some one would get it through the post &3|ޭ spread it. 2. The Money / Time problem : Now , obviously , coding a trackmo or megademo takes a hell of a lot of time up, and at the end of it, you don't actually get anything outta it. Yeah, you get a kick, and you feel satisfied at the end, but why should you do , it for free? Well, its fun (I suppose), but i think people are begining to realise that you can actually get money out of it by either winning a demo competition at a major party or by sayibdng that P.D companies are not allowed to copy it, unless they pay a fee. Now the winning at a party method is all very well, but I haven't heard of many BIG parties lately. Also, it depends on what is entered. Recently I read that an INTRO won the competition and received the money , because no one could be bothered to code a trackmo or Megademo. Also, coding a demo, getting some other poor sods to do the pixeling , and the music will take loads of time, and can be veryþ frustrating to all involved when the beloved disks get the hated read/write errors. This is Very depressing, and could put the person concerned off enough, for him to give up (I have heard of it before..) 3. The dieing-scene problem : Well , we all know it, slowly the scene is dieing, The once famous groups are leaving the scene, and doing other things,Like silents - who are now doing games, Dan of Anarchy - he is now working for Core Design (although he contiL(nues to contribute to the scene though). Coders are seeked by virtually every group. Look through adverts in disk mags, and people are crying out for Coders. No coderd means your groups name goes no-where Coding is hard, and so its really the coders who have control over the scene, and the group members. Coders will be gratefully accepted into any group, and as more coders realise sowtware companies are also wanting coders, the population of coders in the scene dw<=indles. 4. The Unoriginal Problem: Well , everyone's seen it all , ain't they. Everything has been done on our lovely amigas. No one has any original idea's anymore, and what Demo's need is original stuff to make them stick out from the standard affair. More original Ideas will need more advanced coding techniques (Probably) and the coders will not want to waste their time, because they don't get anything outta it unless money for a demo-comp.(See above)etc, 5. Gett~ing new life Problem: Coders are few and far between, and will obviously find learning quite hard. Now to code something that is Really Good, you have to be a Really Good Coder. This takes time, you can't just learn all the advanced software tricks just like that. The current coders were the pioneers of the Amiga, they grew with the amiga, they learnt its potential as commodore did ,(And some times before commodore). They wanted to ask Commodore questions =Z, but they couldn't answer them because they didn't know themselves! So the coders persivated, and learn't by trial and error, and by this time they are fucking excellent coders, but now(as i have said), they are leaving the scene because they have either grow out of their toys, they have been forced to sell coz of bills, or they have joined software houses.New coders arn't all that good , and need practise to build up their experience. We're now entering the Second gen MNeration of coders, and they are slowly getting better. So, there is a shortage of MegaDemos And TrackMo's at the monent so why not go and start to code one now, and make yourself famous? BY CRYTON OF APOCALYPSE """""""""""""""""""" ts really the coders who have control over the scene, and the group members. Most people just want a machine that they can play on, and the Console is just the thing for it. Cool Gfx, Excellent sound, Instant Loading games, and the technology is advancing far faster than the computer industries, making them more soș7ught for than computers , which are futher behind the technology of the console. The consoles have games on cartirdge, which means that if they are good, then they will sell well, and make a profet, because the cartirdge can't be copied, and the money they WILL make can be re-invested. This, in effect, makes the companies release GOOD games, as there is a massive market for games, and as they HAVE to be brought, and because they cost so much crap ones simply will 0Rnot be brought. The other things that makes consoles have good games , is that the manufacturers only let companies release a certain amount of games per year, so they are forced only to release The VERY BEST games, and coupled with the fact that they can't be pirated , its a no-loose situation for the companies, so money can be re,invested, and so they arn't forced to release (Crap) games, just to keep them alive , they can bounce back on the masses of money they ʄ make with their games, unlike computer games companies, who have to continually resease stuff to keep them afloat. So, whats going to happen to us computer owners ? 8 bits are destined to die soon, and 16 bits look like they might die, but that all depends on the software companies, and if they can make the money to keep them alive, if companies die, computers die, and if computers die, companies die, They're relying on each other. If anything, it will be piracˤMy of sowtware that kills us off, and leaves us with those far advanced machines, that people just stare into, playing and playing, and playing. There's nothing else you can do with consoles, just play on 'em, so maybe the computers will stay around, because they can be used for DIP, word-processing, drawing, writing music on, etc. They're much more versitile than the consoles , but console feaver has been caught over in America, I wonder if it will spread to thA'e U.K???..... What I'm going to comment on this time is the sheer size of the boxes originals come it. They're massive!! Lets just quickly do some maths: Size of disk (cm): 9.4 * 9.0 * 0.3 = 25.380 cubed cm Size of Box (cm):23.5 *18.5 * 3.5 = 1521.625 cubed cm So roughly, the disk is -=> 60 <=- times bigger than the disk. What can I say, but what a waste of m,paterials!! Why do the stupid companies insist on releasing games in rediculously large boxes? Do they think that the bigger the box, the bigger chance of the game being brought? Or is it simply because one company released the game in a big box, it would stand out more, so the others followed suite (Talk about The blind leading the blind!!) After a quick delve in my original cupboard, I can show you that original boxes are getting bigger. Lets take a look at two games п*-]Lotus, and Lotus II. The size of the Lotus box is : 15 * 18.5 * 3.0 = 832.5 The size of the Lotus II box is : 18.5 * 23.5 * 3.5 = 1522 So its getting bigger . Does this mean if the company releases Lotus III, then the box will be twice as big as as the Lotus II box? Will it get to the stage where the original box is bigger than the shop? Will we be able to move into our original boxes , and avoid paying morgages?? What is the point of wasting theH[ earth's resources? Why make big boxes, when smaller ones would be perfectly acceptable, and more enviromently friendly? I really don't see the reasoning behind it. If you had smaller boxes, then surely you would save money , and therefore MAKE more money?? So why did it stay at the top of the charts for about 14 weeks Yes We know Ocean produced it, and we know they're a bit crap really, but what ever possessLed millions of people to buy it. Well, obviously it was all the sad little people with Amiga's who brought it (Aged about 9). Which shows how many "older" games players buy originals, but it worked for Ocean . They made a massive profit. The same occured with the rather naff "Bart" game. Hmmm That was good (I don't think), but my god, did it sell. Is this going to be the way of the future? A strange thing , writing to people you're hardly ever likly to meet , and putting an imense trust in them as time goes on. You could bump into them ont he street, exchange a few "Fuck Off" 's and you wouldn't know that you actually knew them. So, what is it that makes people want to have millions of contacts? I personally coudn't cope with over 20 contacts in the U.K. Postage would be through the roof, I'BMd have no money, coz of buying disks and stamps and diskboxes, and jiffies, and paper , etc . And most probably, i'd reveive all the same warez. My entire life would be taken up with watching those small "o"'s in X-Copy come up, each night, every night. I'd be a human Swapping-Machine. How boring ! I can think of many better ways of spending my life. But what makes people want contacts? Is it the thrill of waiting, each morning, for the postman, to deliver 100's of paLWckages to you, so you can waste that day?, or is it the urge to have HOT 0-1 day warez, so you can boast to all your mates in college?, or is it because you want to see your name in scrollies I.E:"blah, blah, HI TO MR.HOTSWAPPER OF NEWWAREZ-YOUR REALLY COOOL" or More like.. " hi to Mr.Sad-loser of Get-a-life-uk , your sad !!!" I mean , all you really need is a couple of good contacts who get all the new stuff .This would save you time, and money, and tohen you can spread the new stuff to lamers. I am actually thinking about setting up a LAMER swapshop. The Lamers would send me disks & return postage, & i'd copy hem the new stuff, and give them some addresses, so they could write off to them, list/send the new warez and get in contact with some-one who wanted to waste their time and money. It would save me time, and introduce new life into the scene. And another thing, what is soooo amazing about girls Y in the scene. Recently i have read a scrolly writen by Anabel of CREED. In it she said that she received over 40 packages a day. That's quite a lot, and she got them just coz she was a girl. Now if i said "Write to our new swapper Mrs.Nympho-suck-your-dick-free-sex at blah blah blah etc," I wonder how many replies I would get? Billions, I suppose. but what is the attraction of swapping with a female? Does the person think he now has a massive y sex appeal, just because a girl, who he will never see, has replied back to him (like countless others).Or is it the novelty factor? Wow a girl swapper?, lets see how crap she is.Lets send her loads of new warez to show off to her, and so we have a greater chance of "Pulling" her.. Hmmm strange lot. Or maybe they want the competition? like, if they met her at a copy-party, they could battle their way through all the other guys, and show off their skill andy+kx attracting the opposite sex? Wierd? Maybe, I'd like to hear Anabels side to thew story very much, so if your reading, Write an article for EUROMAG , from your point of view, please!? What is it that makes about 10 groups just keep pumping the compilation disks out. The Ones i have had all have the two Kefrens "Inspiration has come" & "Inspiration has gone", and that new paradise intro, and some others. Myself, i find them boring all getting to me at the same 軱 time with the same stuff on. For an example, i received "Violent Desire Pack No.6" And "Roundabout Pack No.13". Another thing the ripped-off person can do, is bombard him with letters, without stamps.Send him a shoebox with a brick in it to him, and dont't pay postage. The Sod at the receiving end will have to pay the post office . Ha Ha.Also, you could learn code and code a nice " FUCK OFF AND DIE " demo in memory to him (Later in your life, Code in't easy!) THis Made me think , uh oh another hit ,kick and jump platform game. But as i started playing it was actually quite good with someting a bit different that makes you come back for more. The Story is based on the usu{ral story. There were 8 monks that guarded the lands and they were imprisoned by a wicked evil demon and the hero has to go through 4 lands and rescue them all and then face the demon. Sound simple dosent it? Wrong. Ok it is hard at first to figure out the controls , one small niggle with the jumping routine. It feals as if he has a tonne weight tied to his feet. Ah well i suppose it cannot be helped but you just cannot jump high enough to clear a certain baddy oru jump to another platform on time. Saying this though it is a very enjoyable game and it has some of the most detailed and colorful graphics that i have sen on a long time. In fact i think they should belong on a famicon or a megadrive. Anyway The game is a bit let down by the rather boring musics but that is only a small bone to pick and all in all it is a very entertaining game. JIM POWER - 1/2 MEG - IN HOUSE From the makers of turrican so i hear. bu;t a bit of a let down. I was expecting masses of great detailed effects and graphics. Ok they were good but i would prefer the turrican style graphics or that of Risky woods. The aim is to work your way through different lands. But i must say that i got extremly anoyed when i found that i had to restart the level all over again when i died and it took me so long to do. It would of been better to have some form of credits system. Anyway the music is very good, it is by chris heulsbeck and is a sort of remix from other hits such as strip poker plus and turrican and turrican 2. There are quite a few nice touches in the game and i must say that i realy enjoyed playing the game. But i have to say that the bad points do slightly outweigh the good points which is a shame because this could have been a very cool game. SUPER SKI 2 - 1/2 MEG - MICROIDS Oh great another sports game. But wait whats this all about skiing? Hmm qq/actually it is quite good. Well i want to talk about some guys attitudes to the scene. I wont give any names but i would like to say that there are alot of trouble in the scene today with waring groups and everything. And here is what i have to say about aspects of the scene. 1 >> All you waring groups. Dont you think that you should have a look at what you L are doing to yourself and the damage that you are doing to the scene. try thinking about the fact that you are ruining your reputation by concentrating on attacking another group for minor maters. You are wasting your talents on making war with others. The scene is not for war it is for freindship and for helping other crews and guys. And if you warers out there cannot see this then i dont think that you are fit Jto be in the scene. 2 >> Peoples attitudes to lamers. Yes thats right Lamers or as alot of people say "loosers". Well all you lamer bashers i have to say that you were lame once and just remember the hard time you had trying to work your way up the ladder the elitness. Dont you think that it is time that you should make it easier for lamers to do something with the scene and help everyone to co-operate with each other. U All i am saying is you were lame once and i think that you know how hard it is to get into the scene. So dont mess it up for others, help them. 3 >> Slaggers off. Not very well known now adays but people do release lame stuff now and again and it is inevitable that some groups sometimes release a lame demo or intro. Dont slag them off by saying that they are lame or whatever just try and give critisism because slaging $6someone off is going to demoralise them and stop them from trying again and improving. It could also lead to war and as i said in point 1. That is not a good thing to happen. Firstly i would like to say that most charts that are in magazines such as the Old Eurochart and Nordic report are a bit stupid in my oppinion becuase of the following. 1 Have you noticed that in most magazines that usually the same guy is at the top for upto 6 months or more. Just for an e Foxample. Uno / scoopex was on the top of the Eurochart for 5 issues! Is that stupid or what,I mean Uno is a very good graphic artist but all that i can see that he is on the top for was because of ENIGMA. There are many other graphic artists that are just as good or even better than UNO and they dont get the justice. There are many other Examples of this. 2 Have you ever seen guys like RACK,ZOOM,SIONIC or others on the top of the charts? No Y i thought not but i personally think that these guys and others are the elite of graphic artists. And do you know why they arnt ontop? I will tell you,it is because most people when they vote just look at the last chart and take their opinion from that. Which means the other graphic artists only get a break when they release a massive demo or something like that. And they dont get recognised for other things they do. T Ehis is very unfair. Now i would like to talk about some nice things in the scene about graphics. Alot of demos now are more graphic orientated instead of just simple graphics and great code the graphics are more part of the demo than they ever were. Just look at ENIGMA , The ANARCHY demos,HARDWIRED,ODDESSEY,VOYAGE. The list is endless. If you look back to the old days of 1987 to 1989 then you see that graphics arnt so amazing and more time was spent on the 1 code. Now the graphic artists of a group are more challenged. Instead of just having to do Logos they are alowed to do massive animations and express themselves more. This is great. Well that is all i have to say. Not a long text but i hope i have got my point through. When voting in a chart of any kind, dont look at other people opinion , use your own. You wont get laughed at for having your own tastes and opinions. VIDEO KID """"""""" er things they do. Now you might thinl "WOW" or something like that, but this pd company is different. It sells its disks for #2.50!!!!! Now i'm sure everyone knows how much works goes into making demos. Its a fuck of a lot of work!! Now PD companies serve a purpose to people in the scene, as they are a quick and easy way of getting FREE disks (see other text>, but they also supply lamers PD, so they can sta 7rt to get a feel of what "the scene" is about, and the goings on. Now as there is lots of lamers, there is a big market for selling p.d! Most p.d companies sell disks for #1.00 to #1.25. This JUST covers all expenses like Postage and Packaging, buying the disks, copying them, advertising etc. These companies use top quality BRANDED disks for their customers!... However P.D Soft don't. They use crappy unbranded disks, and they make a massive profit!v per disk (about #1.50) Considering they use crap disks , they do not have a clue how a computer works, and they do not apreciate the scene for what it is , I think they should be banished from the market........... These guys are making MASSES of money out of OTHER peoples HARD work. As far as i can see, this is theft of other peoples money, so i ask ALL groups out there, if you release a demo, put on the start of it that it may not be sold by P.D Soft"{8w, but any other company who charges #1.00 to #1.25 per disk. PD SOFT are living off what YOU groups do, just like a parasite lives off other animals and uses them. PD SOFT is using YOU, and they shouldn't be able to get away with it.... SO don't let PD Soft sell your products, tell them to FUCK OFF AND DIE (or something like that) but PLEASE allow other P.D Companies who apreciate your work (Like the excellent A.B.O.:-f)T.S ), to continue to sell your products, as they make about 10p per disk, and introduce disks to other lamers, who could just be tomorrows coders.... So, its up to you (The Group) to stop crappy P.D Soft making money out of your work. GO AND STOP THEM NOW C R Y T O N / A P O C A L Y P S E far as i can see, this is theft of other peoples money, so i ask ALL groups out there, if you release a demo, put on the start of it that it may not be sold by P.D Soft#$g('&%$A5Q=012u#%#M] AMIGA FORMAT -==========- Just getting some stuff of my chest here!! This is a computer magazine, and a very naff one at this. The main reason I detest this magazine is because of the excessive amount of adverts in it. Its simply rediculous. Out of 225 pages, 140 are adverts. This is 63% of the actual magazine!!! This magazine costs #4.00, so you are paying #2.60 just to read the blooming adverts! To make things worse, this magazine claims to be "The World's#&K= Best-Selling Amiga Mag" Well, if they are the worlds best selling mag, and then they have all these adverts in, then they must be making a fucking MASSIVE profit each month!! I see this profit absolutely appaling. All other mags are cheaper , and have no way as many adverts in. Also the (sad sad) people in AF do not have a clue how to even start to review games/pd/utils etc. Take a VERY old example of when they reviewed the excellent "Midnight Resistance". The stu#'=<; 5Q00fu: 1 :... This way requires you to have brought P.D off the company concerned.(Or if you mate has, you can pretend to be him!).First of all, you will be conning the company out of however many disks you (or your mate) brought. Simply phone the:=t* company up and get ready to complain! Calmly explain to the person that you ordered a number of disks from them and that they never actually arived at your place(when in reality they had actually come).Get ready to quote the disk numbers (make sure they are the same as you had originally ordered, bcoz they might check up). Thank the person on the end of the phone when they promise to send you the disks. When they arive, just format over them and use them for blanks! As w:>j쒟ell as the disks, you get the lovely padded envelopes, which you can re-use to send disks to all your contacts! -=> 2 :... In this case, you must first work yourself up to throw wobbler to the person at the end of the phone. Phone the company up and tell them that you ordered a certain number of disks off the company about 3 weeks ago. They will then probably ask you your name, phone number, number of disks ordered, and thier disk-numbers. (Get ready:?< with the disk numbers of the demos you want)If they tell you that they received no such order, start blaming their incompedent staff, the way they are conning people out of disks all the time, how they a rip-merchants, living off money made from OTHER peoples hard work, and anything else that comes into your mind at the time (its amazing what you can think up, when your on the spot) This method requires guts, so if your a wimp, or you sound like a wimp, I woul:@Edn't try it. On the other hand, some companies are VERY helpful and blame the cock-up on the postage system or something! So, pick up the phone, and do your best. If you do the job off well, you'll be in some disks and envelopes! If you cock up, then don't worry! You've wasted a bit of money on the phone, and thats all. NOTHING else will happen to you (I.E: The police will not pop round to see you or anything else like that!) Another new cool trick to do at thi:Aes moment (April/May '92) is to make the P.D companies feel small by phoning them up and asking them if they have any new stuff from CeBit '92. Half of them don't have a clue the CeBit even took place, while the other half say that they will be expecting stuff soon (ie. They don't have a clue that the CeBit took place). So Pick up the phone & piss some-one off NOW!! Lamers help emphasise the better people amoungst "the scene". 2.Everyone must remember the days when they where once lame them- selves. BEՈNo one enters "the scene" as a brilliant coder, musician, or graphician. It takes work. Lots of work. Some of the lamers around now maybe be tomorrows top coders, etc. All they need is a break from the "Big Boys" in the scene from disguarding their letters , and not replying, which leads us onto point 3..... 3.Who on earth is going to continue "the scene" when all the groups eventually give up doing their stuff? It needs to be continued. The Amiga is the right BFmachine for demos , etc .The right gfx capabilities, excellent sound, and nice easy powerful languages at its disposal. All the above relevant programs can be obtained from pirates (like D-PAINT VI), or from "the scene"(like noisetracker), but to get an assembler to start to learn code , needs one of two things. 1) Lots of money (like 60-100 pounds to buy all the stuff ( Assembler , linker , editor , etc ) 2) Contacts in big groups that can send you it. BGC>l Number '1' is out unless your bloody rich So the potential coder has to turn to option '2', and writes to big groups. But big groups only reply to non-lame people (ie. all the other guys in big groups), and so they don't write back to Mr.Lame Mr.Lame doesn't get a reply, so he can't learn code and continue the scene when other groups die out. Its a viscious circle. To get esential stuff to start to learn code , etc , you have to be big in "the sceBHS^ݎne". To be big in "the scene", you have to be a regcognised person in the scene.Gfx and musics only get around with code. But because Mr.Lame can't get in the scene coz no one will reply to him, then potential gets un-noticed. Its time big groups started to awknoledge that some one needs to continue the scene, and that is down to lamers, who, once they've got the necessary stuff , will become Mr. Non - lamer . Give lamers a break!! Its what "the scene" Bneeds. I have reveiwed issue 1 but issue 2 is already out and maybe issue 3. Well Where should i start? Ah yes well it is made up of 3 sections.. The first is the charts which is very well done. They are done differently to the CRUSADERS chart because instead of selecting the chart you want with a graphic screen it IL8Lhas an up and down button and when activated it moves the current chart to the next or previous, Well you know what i mean!! After this selecting the GO button displays that chart onto the screen. The graphics in this part are very well made and presented. Now onto the next section which most of you Ex EUROCHART viewers will know,The Gallery. Like the Eurochart it has PREVIOUS and NEXT option which displays the pictures. One small thing that makes IMxsit look slightly bad is the pictures arnt all the same size like in the other gallerys i have seen but apart from this the quality is Excellent. Now onto the main thing. The magazine. Seeing as this was the first issue there wasnt many articles but apart from this the quality was of a high standard. There was a miriad of options such as Time, the usual cluster,Menu,Filter,Music on / off, and column as well as a nice feature called SEARCH which searches through every articIN~le to find a specific word or string. All the Articles seem to be held in memory because i saw no disk activity when selecting a new article. A new idea here. The idea behind this is not to put the usual articles in magazines but to do short stories and poems.A novel idea, but does it work? Well yes i think so because unlike most stories these are rather very good and Markus Jung (editor and whq of grace) is a competent editor. He did very well and some of the articles that he wrote were very interesting. What i _b0could not comprehend though was the use of the german language in about half of the texts. I mean come off it most sucessful magazines are written in english. So that they can be spread to a wider range of people. I think that this is the only niggle that i have with this magazine and the guys in grace had a hard job getting the magazine released and from what i have seen of the first issue it looked very good indeed. Graphics.. Very well _c|߻presented and nicely drawn graphics by crowd and dragos. The menu is very user freindly and there is no clash in colors when in color change. Sonix..... A good set of tunes and i am in love with columbian tie by vryzel. Use of music on / off if you get bored is available so i think this section scored highly with me!! Coding.... Very well coded. It wasnt apparant who actually coded it to me but they did a _dg|good job of the selector. Some good solid coding and it put over the impresion that it had been polished up alot! Now then .. The first time that i saw this program was in January i think. And The titles came up and i thought smashing this looks cool Then the Presenter came on an if you dont mind me saying so ,he looks ltw^ike he should be in a old movie. Let me tell you something about him. He knows sweet f.a. about the games that are being played apart from A has to get to B through C. Come on Channel 4 do some research into the games that are being played. And what really gets on my wick is the fact that he is so f**king smarmy. You see they have these people from magazines like computer and video games. These guys are very tolorent i think. If i was ontx b the program i would turn around and belt him one cos while the guys are playing the games he starts on at them about they should have done this and he should have done this when he knows nothing about whats going on himself. Another thing is that he starts asking stupid questions to the people who have kindly come in from magazines to be on the show. I was expecting him to say something like so whats this game called again and what amtyTk i doing here cos i am soooo iritating. Now i have got that of my chest i will say something about the actual program. Its wouldnt be that bad if it was presented properly. Cos some of the challenges are to be honest rather rubbishy. Lets give you an example, you know on terminator 2 you have to remake his face. Well they picked someone from the audience and he had to do this in 90 seconds. What is the point, The viewer was not doingtz1CP anything. I was getting extremly bored out of my skull watching a bod who was doing his best to put little squares in the right place. Then Domonik (the presenter) started adding little things like ooooh is he going to make it and hes only got 1 secong left to do the entire face . It would be allright if there were some decent challenges. Sorry channel 4 but your programme is exedingly crap. The presenter was having to fill in t{|j.time cos the challange was so bloody boring . The camera only really went on the actual game for about 10 seconds at the end, When it was obvious that the kid couldnt do the challenge. Actually the kid did quite well considering he probably only played it a couple of times. They didnt even give him the instructions. Another thing they have is guest appearences, one week they even had a wrestler called NAGASAKI on to play a game of wrestlingt| on the nintendo against a 10 year old. And the 10 year old won !! mind you seeing that the wrestler probably never played a game in his life im not suprised !! What else? oh yes the only good thing on the program was the review section. Which showed clips of games, some which had been out for months. The clips were about 30 seconds long. Also There is someone from a magazine talking about the game. A good part is the fact that there is a preview section and they hatX}|d a preview of dune on once which was quite interesting. My last words are.. If you end up throwing your tv out of the window after watching the programme GAMESMASTER dont say i didnt warn you. A lamer in the Amiga freaks that travelled to see he concert had broken into the cupboard where i had kept my disks and b}ackups and the bastard stole 50 of my disks, unfortunatly there were about 30 amiga type dudes there and i wasnt going to accuse them all cos they would freak out and leave so i remade the graphics, it took me about 6 hours hard work, with the help of anvil, who was then Anvil of Infinity. Now we had to set up the video and the screens for the computer display. some arsehole had locked the door to the room where the screens were kept so we had to wait 2 hours to get the t}H'v sceens. The good thing was the speakers and the amplifier They blew up. The girl helpers had moved a big 500 watt amplifier to the stage (it was rented !!) but as soon as it was pluged in thick grey smoke started fuming from the ampilifier !! As soon as they opened the amplifier up all its resistors had blown or burnt out. If this wasnt enough some of the disks for the synths had gone missing , or was it that condran had left them at home? Anyway }vafter we had got the tvs out everything started to go right !! The concert started with no hitchesand it got a bit boring cos nobody was doing anything so PHYSIC (me) , Anvil , Ewin ( i think thats how you spell i ), Milsey, Mulley and Dan got up and boogied on down to the beat (hu) and got the party livened up !! I was doing some video camera tapeing in the back of the hall with some one else. Also there was a johovas witness dancing on}[r the stage so the 50 johovas witnesses in the audience walked out for some reason !! so there was only 100 to 150 people in the audience so we all got up and danced around the stage and hall and even outside of the hall. during the break i showed some animations on the amiga but the organisers thought they were affensive. One of them had something to do with a girl , and a man? so i had to switch it off or end the concert }4&y so i switch it off and put on the budbrain megademos 1 & 2 instead (hahahahahahaha !!). Enough of that we raised over 150 pounds for orphans of romania !! and this year we are hoping to raise over 300 pounds for charity (same one).. Just before the end of the concert the caretakers came in and switched of the electric so all the computers and syths went dead (bastards !!). and we missed 5 songs of the end of the concert. This was quite lucky actually }@ܑE cos i didnt do the titles for them !! All in all it was a cool concert and this one is going to be better with a hologram machine, lasers and strobe lighting including lots of rave, house and techno music for the cool ravers umoung us !! PHYSIC (EDITOR) ------- blown or burnt out. If this wasnt enough some of the disks for the synths had gone missing , or was it that condran had left them at home? Anyway W 5Q<003uY R a V e R s B y P h Y s I c / APOCALYPSE ---------------------- The year is 1996 and the decade of the rave has spread through out the world . All of the old style raving had been banned and it has gone under ground because of all of the drugs, but the governments of the world decided to bring it out into the open once again and the drug ecstacy and lsd have been legalised to keep the voters happy. The story starts at a rave in јbournmouth where large screens of weird effects being displayed are shown. Most of the crowd is seeing giant mars bars raving or the terminator raving to the beat and whisky men break dancing. The main man of our story is called Tech and he is out in the car park scoring some of a new drug called Flashback now this drug is mass produced in holland and belgium and is imported through the channel tunnel in the back of construction tunnel transport. Flashback is the most deadly drug in the world but it is addictive. Its not the drug that kills you but the things that you do when you are on it. To get back to the story,Tech is high as a kite on this shit and is trying to drive his car through an imaginary brick wall but unfortunatly the wall is real and Tech ends up thrown through the windscreen of his car and smashing his head flat on the brick wall. The year is 1997 and the raviUHng has degenerated into street raving where satanic ritual killings have been reported. The government has asked for the assembly of a peace keeping force. The idea of a cyborg force of flashback addicts. Aslong as they are fed daily with flashback they are under the control of the government. As you can guess there is no volenteers for this project. So dead people are used and to test the system a cryo-geneticly frozen body is to be used. As you know Tech is that body and his nightmarish ordeal begins. His first mission is to bust a factory in belgium. He enters the door to a canning factory and immediatly a gun is pulled on him. Now tech looks like a normal human being so the guard expects nothing. Tech grabs hold of the guards arms and rips them of by the roots. The guard falls to the floor and tech pulls out a semi-auto plasma rifle. Firing at the guards head it blasts fragments of ?;bone and blood over the antiseptic clean walls of the factory. He walks deeper into the heart of the factory He hears an alarm being sounded and as from nowhere hundreds of bullets are pumped into him releantlesly. Tech falls to the floor but he dosnt bleed he gets up and fires round and round of plasma into a bright light in the distance. The sound of dead bodies crashing to the ground echoes around the room,Tech carries on. Read next issues part to find out what happens!!" PHYSIC (EDITOR) """"""""""""""" nightmarish ordeal begins. A strange lot, in fact, I'd go as far as to say that they are a right bunch of gits as they are using our rather nice productions to make themselves rich. Some will agree with me, some won't but whatever your standing you have to agree that some PD co.'s are really ripping people off!! To use one as an example we are going to terrorize 17 Bit software They used to charge 2.50 (Pound sterling) for ONE disk, I m.vGean, come off it they is way out of order!! Disk (in bulk) would cost not more than 20p, postage (First class) 24p per 3 disks and jiffy bag approx 30p (in bulk would cost less!) that is a grand total of 58p per disk. Not forgetting that the more disks that are ordered the cheaper the postage becomes and only one jiffy bag required!! This means they are making about 2 per disk ordered, oh no, sorry, that's the copying fee!! For that I'll copy anything you want me toߓ҈!!I should add that 17 Bit has now lowered its prices and are given a better service for your money but I have seen one company charging 3 per disk and its still 3 as far as I know. Some groups are combating this with a slight twist to the copyright by putting messages like,`If any PD Companies wish to sell this disk then they must first have an agreement with us first`. A prime example being CRUSADERS who are now putting that message on ALL new productions, but Ois this such a good idea?? To someone new to the Amiga this could prove very confusing with magazines telling them that PD is free for all and now these messages telling them different. Most people would never have seen or heard of PD if it wasn't for PD companies and that could spell the end to our lovely `demo scene'. In case nobody knew I do , in fact , run my own PD company so I may be slightly bias but since I'm also in the demo scene I see the argumentU from both sides. It's not a great big setup with hardware copiers but I use it to pay for my postage and phone bills (I'm still at school and haven't got a job) and without it I would probably have to give up the scene.I charge 65p for a disk (disk included) and I make about 20p profit on each disk so why do these so called `quality' companies charge so much?? Putting messages on disks could spell the end for little groups like mine as I/we don't have time to write 7Rto every group that comes along and would soon have to end it all leaving the market (Yes, I said market) to the BIG guys to rip off poor little lamers/new owners. This brings me to another little point of argument , who buys these disks anyway. Anybody who's somebody gets all their warez off contacts and has no need for PD companies so that leaves only lamers and new owners (Otherwise known as ex. ST owners!!) so why should we give a damn about the lamers and that only leaves the new owners. But , as I said before, without new owners our scene would end....... I could carry on for ever but I won't. Ponder on these words of wisdom and decide for yourself wether PD companies or messages are a good idea....And if you feel up to it write in to EUROMAG with any other points I've missed (which I'm bound to have!!)....
