First Words .......................................................... : Hiya all! Back from my trip, I've just entered easter holidays... i.e. I can make up my work for Hugi which I haven't been able to do during the trip. The official deadline for articles is over, it was April 12th. But you can still send us articles. I'm able to publish them in Hugi #19 if I get them any time before the release of the mag. The engine we've been using since Hugi #18 makes formatting pretty fast. The address of your choice is mailto:hugi@netway.at! I'm now working hard on finishing the new issue. Currently 250 kbyte of articles are edited and formatted. I've included a lot of cliparts in them, as many of you demanded. 700 kbyte of articles are still waiting to be edited, this amount growing every day. The articles include the usual Hugi topics: coding, demoscene stuff, diskmags, plus literature + politics + humour... Coding articles include topics such as digital sound processing and OpenGL. Paradox wrote a lot and will have his own corner in this issue. Demoscene-wise, an interesting article for party-visitors is Ghandy's "Anti Quake Campaign": He asked party organizers about solutions to prevent that too many gamers dominate the scene parties. In this article, he presents their replies and comments on them. Also very prolific was TAD, with loads of articles, but not only that: In the last few days, he discovered his graphic talent and also created several pictures for Hugi, plus logos and some nice extra stuff. Thus we'll be able to offer at least three new skins in Hugi #19 for your eyes' pleasure. Plus some very good music and Chris Dragan's recoded and enhanced engine. Due to its better portability, it will be easier to create Hugi engines for Linux and other operating systems. If you are interested, mail Chris at mailto:cdragan@ams.ampr.org! Now enjoy this heap of news... and see you next week! - Adok (Hugi Core & Royal Family) . :........................................................................ .. Issue 2 was a blast, with 2.1 mbyte of articles (100 kbyte in English). Can the next issue beat that? Vote online at http://www.wasp.w3.pl/pages/budyn/. Posted by Adok. SceneCity Diskmag. * I found the following information on the upcoming SceneCity Diskmag at http://scenecity.planet-d.net/: * "SceneCity Diskmag will not be released this month, but it's very promising ! Great interviews, great surprises. We want a high quality diskmag, so, because the lack of article and the lack of time, The publication is delayed !" Posted by Adok, based on news from Anhk and Sacrilege. 4096 byte website competition results now available. * http://message.sk/web4096/ Posted by Adok. Planet #1 released? * Several people from the Planet chartmag staff sent me mails about the release of the first issue. However, the RAR archives I downloaded from the official URL (http://www.agravedict.art.pl/) as well as all other servers where I found the mag could not be unpacked, neither by RAR 2.50 nor by WinRAR 2.70 beta 4. I tried it several times without any success, and main editor CooLPhonE did not know a solution either. Posted by Adok, based on news from Neurop and others. Masm for free. * The latest version of the Microsoft Macroassembler is available at http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/ddk98.htm for free as a part of MS Windows 98 Driver Development Kit. Posted by Adok. Ram Jam. * A pc coder called PFoISON tried to force Twilek of RamJam to change his handle. But as Twilek has been using his handle since 1991 and is quite well-known under that name, he didn't listen to the threats of FPoison. They're still in war... maybe you already saw them flaming on IRC? ;-) Posted by Ghandy, edited by Adok. Park. * The "strange new music group" Park is online now. Park's homepage is http://park.planet-d.net/, and their first release - the melancholik ep - is ready for download. Posted by netpoet, edited by Adok. Scene Central coming back?? * Noticed this one on demoscene.org - There is a good chance that Scene-Central will re-open! Here is the official msg from the site: * "Welcome to Scene Central. This domain has been passed on from the Comic Pirates to Padua. Currently we are setting up all the technical details, and we hope to have Scene Central back online by the end of the Summer. If you wish to contact us or would like to be notified when things go online, email us at mailto:info@scene-central.com." Posted by Civax, based on news from Jeroen. Demo Parties Fever. * Jeroen of demoscene.org posted a bunch of demo-parties related news. Here is a summary (and actually, all the really important news): * Bizarre 2000 website (http://www.bizarre.nl/) is online. To remind you, its a Dutch party and is due on the last weekend of September. * LTP4 website (http://ltp.planet-d.net/) is also online now, with a cool design (as always). For whoever forgot, it's held in France, Friday the 25th of august. * Arf!Party 2000 (http://arfparty.planet-d.net/), however, was cancelled! The organizers say they'll post more info on why it happened later. * To remind you, Takeover 2000 (http://www.takeover.nl/) would take place next month... Posted by Civax, edited by Adok, based on news from Jeroen. Demonews Express. * Eggbird made a script which allows you to quickly go through some demoscene news and review sites. It's similar to a bookmark, actually. http://demonews.cjb.net/ Posted by Adok, based on news from Eggbird. VK, a Level-D art/musicdisk. * According to Orange Juice, Level-D released a new art- and musicdisk with 19 pics by e.g. Made, Fred, Flan, Feather, Uma, and 17 tunes by Radix, Lluvia, Traven, Djam, Distance, Nogsf and others. It can be downloaded at http://vk.planet-d.net/. Posted by Adok, based on news from Shodan. Melcom releaes doom.mp3. * After a month of silence, Melcom is back with a new track. It's DOOM.MP3 VBR kbps / 44kHz - 2847 KB - 03:40min. You can get it from ftp://ftp.divinecreation.net/pub/melcom/singles/doom.mp3. WinAmp is required. Feedback ............................................................. : CooLPhonE writes: "A few days ago I read Hugi [issue? I don't remember] and I found the article 'ex.swappers' [or something like that :)] and there were some words about me :)))) hehe and my takeover of #pixel... That "takeover" wasn't a real takeover but it looked like it. :) It was ircii on screen, it has an option which I should have disabled but I didn't [I had forgot it]: /nethack [deop on server op, after split]. So I had left it and went out from net, my screen used a Polish irc server, and when the Polish IRC split with the rest of the world [it happens very often], my screen had op and after the split, the screen deoped all people on the other side of the split [I think all oped people] and that is the secret of my "takeover" of #pixel. But here is something I have been thinking about: How is it possible that a channel like #pixel could be so insecure. :( Now I think everything is clear :) and you don't think that I'm a lamer. :)" . :........................................................................ ..
