Author: Joakim Eriksson API: Glide Rush Compatible: Unknown NT4 Compatible: Yes Source Available: Np ---------- * Original Readme File Follows *------------------- Beyond the stars - A 3dfx screen saver (March 4, 1998) ---------------------------------------------------- This screen saver is a contribution to the 2:nd 3DFX screensaver / demo compo at Operation 3DFX (www.op3dfx.com) Short desc ----------- Planes moving around in a nice pattern Long desc --------- The screen saver shows lots of planes moving around in some strange and sometime very intressting and beautiful patterns. It features a 15+ slider options bar where you can play around with the movement yourself and try to create new movement patterns. Compatibility -------------- NT 4.0 : Ok Win 95 : Ok Rush : Not tested Plus! : Uses the "Password Delay" and the "Mouse Threshold" values Options panel -------------- You can drag the sliders with the LMB and drag them faster by pressing both LMB and RMB at the same time. I didnt have the time to create and add the textures i wanted on the options panel so there is no way to see what sliders do what now. So to help you on your way here is the sliders (From top to bottom left to right) Section 1 - Twist - Number of planes - Delay (Not implemented yet) - Plane scale X - Plane scale Y Section 2 - Y distance for each plane - Distance from center axis - Plane rotation velocity X - Plane rotation velocity Y - Plane rotation velocity Z Section 3 - Planes X center (Pivot point) - Planes Y center (Pivot point) - Center axis rotation velocity x - Center axis rotation velocity y - Center axis rotation velocity z Section 4 - Center axis rotation x - Center axis rotation y - Center axis rotation z Button section - Animation panel (Not implemented yet) - Background panel (Not implemented yet) - Reset - Palette panel (Not implemented yet) - About (Not implemented yet) - Quit About ----- This was from the start going to be a demo but becuse of real life and specialy real work deadlines time ran short so about 2 weeks before the deadline i took one of the effects from the demo and built this screensaver around it. However real life didnt stop so i didnt even have time to compleate the screen saver before the deadline. In other words it's still much a work in progress (At least the options bar). The screensaver was built from scratch and contains a full blown portable 3d engine. However the screensaver is quite primitive when it comes to used features so you wont see to much of what the engine can actually do but i hope you will enjoy it anyway! Notes ----- - For best visible apperence make sure you let Glide sync. ie dont have a FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0 enviroment varible set If you dont allow it to sync then you will quite likly see tearing. - The screen saver is extremly limited becuse i didnt have time to add the animation system. Once that gets in you will be able to create small animation seqences that the screensaver will interpolate betwean. Todo ---- - Showing a small version of the screen saver in the preview window - Textures on the options bar - Screen res selector - Delay slider - Color panel (So you can change the color cycling) - Animation panel - Background panel (For showing pictures and things behind the planes) - Slider movement (Random/Loop/back and forth/None) - Save/Load of scripts - Min/max limits on all sliders - Remake the design so it even looks good - Open Gl support - Direct 3d supprt - Exploding the screen when starting the screen saver - Optimizations - And a WHOLE lot more....
